Sephora + Pantone Universe Pure Marsala Lipstick

Sephora + Pantone Universe Pure Marsala Matte Lip Creme is a new, limited edition lipstick launching with the Sephora 2015 Color of the Year Capsule Collection.

You’re going to want this one.

Pure Marsala Matte Lip Creme Lipstick Sephora

Sephora + Pantone Universe Pure Marsala Matte Lip Creme Lipstick is a rich, gorgeous shade of brown based wine. This is a shade that’s testimony of how elegant and gorgeous the Pantone Color of the Year, Marsala, can be. It’s simply stunning color that should look amazing on a wide range of different skin tones. I’m actually kinda wishing back Fall as this is the perfect shade of autumn lipstick for me.

The shade comes housed in a elegant rose gold mirrored square barrel tube. It’s actually very lightweight when compared to Sephora Pantone Lipsticks that have launched in the past. As I recall the Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Creme Lipstick came housed in a very heavy, luxe case. I don’t mind the lighter packaging but I thought the change deserved mentioning. The oute box packaging is just as lovely as the lipstick it holds. The box is a ombre design featuring the marsala shade on the bottom gradating into a lighter rose gold towards the top. The lipstick itself seems to be suspended in thin air as they used a sort of strong cling wrap to hold the lipstick in the box.

As always Sephora did an outstanding job. The Pantone Collections from the last several years have all been outstanding in packaging and quality of formula and the Sephora + Pantone Universe Pure Marsala Matte Lip Creme Lipstick is testimony to that.

This lipstick is rich, creamy, and has a pigmented opaque finish on the first application. It applies with a creamy smooth, flawless finish sans sparkle or shimmer. I wouldn’t say it’s a true matte as it feels quite hydrating on my lips and lacks the velvety finish of a matte! It’s more of a cream to me and I’m grateful for that as it wears very, very comfortable without migrating. Color remains fresh and intense for about five hours before fading slightly at hour six. It’s not hydrating but it isn’t drying either and I did not notice a flavor or fragrance in the formula.

Apparently it contains Resveratrol with is a common product find in Bite Beauty Lipsticks and is apparently a great anti-aging ingredient.

I’m very, very pleased with the presentation of the lipstick and the incredible formula. When Sephora sets out to do good makeup, well, they DO good makeup and the Sephora + Pantone Universe Pure Marsala Matte Lip Creme Lipstick is a showcase for great makeup.

Gorgeous! Cannot wait for this collection. The pictures you showed are drool-worthy. Sephora knocked it out of the park with this color/collection. I know some people balked at this color but once they see how wearable it is they will realize how great it is going to be. Thanks for the great pics and info.

oh my pleasure carol and I agree! Not everyone is happy about the shade but I think they’ll be converted 😀

  • Kate

looks great, pinning as we speak (☺)
don’t get the dismay over this color for makeup I think it is a great choice.

  • Emma

Ooooh!!! I think I see a shopping spree in the near future with this in the checkout!!

  • Cinthya

It’s beautiful! & it looks great in you! We have similar skin tones so I’m going to have to pick this up.

  • Jane

I know no one likes Marsala as the color of the year, but this swatch is further proof to me that it was a great choice!

  • JoElla

The more I see marsala the more I like this color. The only downfall I see, is lots and lots of marsala colored lips everywhere. Welcome back to the 90’s kids! 😉

  • Dee

Love the packaging but I just cant “get with Marsala” lol. I just feel colours in that range age me so badly and just look too “serious”. Love how Sephora is working on continuously improving on their products tho. Go Sephroa!!

  • Gillie

I think I might be the only person on Earth that liked Marsala from the get-go. I think I even breathed a sigh of relief when I saw the color the first time, because previous years have been so un-wearable for me.

I’m definitely a warm-autumn, if one believes in seasonal color analysis. I’m looking forward to a year of warm, brown reds! 🙂

Voice of dissent here: the lipstick colour looks beautiful. The gold square tube looks beautiful. But the other packaging is wasteful. I hate products that are over packaged, and will not buy them. Too bad, because otherwise, I’d be lining up for this.

  • Fancie

Beautiful! I just knew I was going to love this lipstick. I need to get my hands on it asap!

  • Rachel R.

That is absolutely divine. I usually am more into brights like Radiant Orchid, but I think Marsala is so lovely.

  • Sammie

If this doesn’t make my teeth look horribly yellow like this shades usually do I’ll probably buy this just because I remember how amazing the formula from last year’s was. Otherwise, I’m still sighing at this color choice.

  • Maritess Lee

Hello! I’m new to your blog and so glad I found you! I love this color and will definitely purchase some of these products. Last year I bought some of the radiant orchid products and was pleased with the quality Sephora put out. Marsala looks lovely on you! Xoxo

    • Isabella Muse

hello Maritess! Nice to meet you 🙂 welcome! I agree, Sephora does a great job with their Pantone Collections! quality, packaging, excellent formula. 🙂 Well worth picking up. thank YOU! you’re too kind 🙂

  • Amber M.

Hrm. I’m conflicted. I think I have some lipsticks that are already close to it, so I probably won’t want to spend the money. I will be anxious to see the eyeliner in the collection however.

  • Genevieve

A fabulous colour and it looks really good on you Isabella. I know I am going to love this colour for lipsticks. My favourite – can’t wait.

  • Monica

Muse, do we know what the price going to be? I’ve never bought any of the Pantone & Sephora collaborations. Do love this color!

  • TwirlyGirly

Just ordered the Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year 2015 Pure Marsala Matte Lip Creme, Marsala Metalshine Liquid Liner, Cooling Marsala Multi Stick, Marsala Layering Lip Collection, and the Facets of Marsala Multi-Finish Eye Palette! The Shimmering Marsala Cheek Trio and Bold Marsala Mascara & Brow Highlighter aren’t up for sale – yet – but I’ll probably nab those, too, when Sephora releases them for sale.

    • Isabella Muse

awesome! Enjoy girl. I grabbed the multi stick too as well as the lip collection and eyeshadow palette 😀

  • Queentutt

I LOVE this and I have to know what blush you are wearing here with the Marsala lipstick. It goes perfectly. GORGEOUS on you Muse!
