Shu Uemura Tint in Gelato Lip and Cheek Color Review & Swatches
Shu Uemura Tint in Gelato Lip and Cheek Color launched several months ago in an array of beautiful shades. This product was formulated to use on lips as a matte lip stain or on cheeks as a satiny blush. It kinda uses the same idea and concept as Stila Lip and Cheek Stain but does so with a matte finish.
Each of the 12 shades are inspired by gelato shades and colors which I thought was one of the appealing aspects of the product as all the shades are super bright and very fun.
Take a look!
Shu Uemura Tint in Gelato Lip and Cheek Color ($28) comes housed in a slick, chic mirrored tube with a long clear strip down the middle that allows you to peek at the shade inside. Each cheek color has a flocked applicator that can be used on lips or cheeks for application. I’m not particularly keen on applying products from mouth to face and from face to mouth. Don’t get me wrong, I love multitasking products but for some reason using a product on my face that’s been on my mouth gives me the heebie jeebies. If you can get past all that you might just fall in love with these.
They aren’t at all what I expected. These have a unique soft, creamy mousse-like texture that isn’t like gel or water cheek and lip stains. This mousse texture makes blending onto your face very easy and also ensures a flawless look as with gel or liquid stains you get that ruddy finish sometimes because they dry faster than you can blend.
Matte lovers will adore these as well as both on face and cheeks you get a matte, velvety finish that’s very, very wearable. On my cheeks they have a satiny matte finish with zero sparkle or shimmer but do provide a beautiful glow on my cheeks that wears for a solid ten hours. Colors blend out perfectly on my drier cheeks and look very natural and pretty. I went a little crazy with CR 02 on my cheeks below but you can definitely go sheerer for a more natural look!
On my lips I was surprised how much I enjoyed the formula. I don’t really like mattes and prefer glossier looks but these applied flawlessly. I have drier lips at the moment that are quite flaky but I had no issues with these clinging to those areas. They applied flawlessly with a smooth, even finish that wore for a solid five hours without feeling dry (but not hydrating either). They don’t flake, they don’t tighten, and they don’t dry my lips out during that time and remain soft and smooth through the wear.

I think Shu over markets them slightly though as they do throw around words like dewy and semi-matte. Personally for me they are all matte and on cheeks you get a bit of a satiny powdery set but dewy? No. So keep that in mind prior to a purchase.
I’m kinda disappointed I didn’t order more as I really love these and now I want the rest of the colors available!
If you like matte lipsticks and love long wearing cheek stain-like products I’m positive Shu Uemura Tint in Gelato Lip and Cheek Color will be a win for you!
