Makeup Mortal Sins

makeup mortal sins

Last night I committed one of thee biggest makeup mortal sins. I fell asleep with my makeup on.

I got home fairly early last night even though my work life is chaotic this month. I had intentions of meeting a friend on Skype at 9:30. The night before I already noticed my throat was getting scratchy and suddenly getting home to my warm bedroom was very appealing. I sat on my bed with the intention to unlace by chucks but what started out innocently ended up with me just laying back and reclining on the bed in utter exhaustion. The sore throat had already developed into minor sniffles so that combined with my warm bedroom and suddenly I was feeling rather drowsy. To keep myself awake I flicked on the latest episode of Walking Dead.

Let me tell you…

Combine a little cold medicine, the break down of the Ricktatorship, the introduction of the Alexandria Safe Zone, and a warm bed and suddenly you’re in la la land before you know it. Likely the real mortal sin here is falling asleep while watching Walking Dead and NOT so much sleeping in my makeup!

I had on mascara and and a full brown smoky eye. I swear I could not for the life of me get up and remove my makeup. Even a quick cleansing water job wasn’t going to get me motivated enough to walk to my vanity.

Hash tag knackered.

None the less the moral of the story is don’t sleep with your makeup on. I woke up looking crazy! Plus I looked like I aged my eyes 10 years. So not a good look!

What makeup mortal sins have you committed recently?

Sleeping with your makeup on?

Not washing your makeup brushes?

Waiting to long to swap out your replacement Clarisonic Brush?

What shameful makeup sins have you committed recently?

Oh, I was also sick this week and slept with makeup on TWICE. I didn’t care at the time, but I did have to give my skin some TLC last night to make up for it! I also wore blue eyeshadow and hot pink lipstick this week, very 80s!

    • Isabella Muse

Ugh! Wed my throat started getting kinda scratchy and my normally minnie mouse voice sounded like I swallowed a frog! By Thursday I was UGH at the end of the day! Hope you’re feeling better now Stephanie! niceeeeeeeeeeeee! 80’s are so going to be a thing this Summer imho!

I keep a pack of makeup remover wipes next to my bed for this purpose…my makeup sin is I use and rely on them TOO much. Opps. Also, I dont remove my makeup before going to the gym which I personally think is a no-no. You sweat…you open your pores….makeup and the bacteria from the day gets in those open pores.

And now while I think about it….I touch my face alot. Hand resting on my cheek while I work on an excel report or while I’m on the phone.

    GAH!!! I’m a mess!!

    • Isabella Muse

that’s a good idea. You know me, I have balm, hand cream, etc next to my bed but I never thought to put wipes there, GREAT idea. OH my god me too. Always touching my face, leaning on my hand! I do however, remove it all before working out as I would look all kinds a hot mess if I left it on 😀

  • Kamikity

I’ve not slept with makeup on for almost 5 years! Woohoo!! (nap doesn’t count)

My biggest moral sin though is probably falling asleep with sheet mask on (and once with mud mask and fell slept for 5 hours. I woke up at 4am because the mask got so dry my face started to hurt…. never again!)

    • Isabella Muse

OMG no! haha I never fell asleep with a sheet mask on. I used them so often surprised it hasn’t happened yet! 😀

  • Jaa

Mine would have to be waking up in the morning and don’t wash my face until afternoon! I get small pimples every time when I do that yet I never learn. LOL!

    TGIF, Muse!

    • Isabella Muse

I typically do it when I’m the shower. I’m such a guy, wash my face in the shower, brush my teeth in the shower haha 🙂 TGIF Jaa!

      • Seafinn

I do that in the shower too- wash my face, exfoliate, brush my teeth, go pee. I’m a multi-tasker. Don’t judge me.

        • Isabella Muse

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL well you admitted to peeing in the shower. We all bow to your honesty haha! I can’t say I pee in the shower but def do everything else! brushing my teeth, exfoliating, washing my face, as much as I can squeeze into one shower 😀

  • Ally

Not exactly a makeup sin per se, but I fell asleep with white strips on my teeth once. When I woke up my teeth were in so much pain! And my teeth were SO white that it hurt to look at them straight on haha. Like if I were in a cartoon, they’d have one of those little diamonds on them that goes BING! I don’t know if that made any sense, but I would not recommend sleeping with white strips!

  • Alisha

mu sin is not cleaning the replacement brush on my Clarasonic…hope you are feeling better

  • Jamie

As a chemistry grad student, I am definitely guilty of unintentionally falling asleep with my makeup on. I also can get lazy about cleaning my brushes. I’m a huge walking dead fan too 🙂

  • Samantha Pierce

I’ve been really good lately in the hopes of keeping my skin from freaking out, but I sloughed off on washing my makeup brushes recently. I waited almost 3 weeks (eww….) but I motivated myself to wash them today! So I’m feeling a little better 😉

  • Angel

Say 20 Hail Mary’s in penance and vow to keep a pack of makeup wipes next to your bed. I don’t do it often since I’m so zit prone, but once in a while, there is just no energy to go through my whole washing, toner, serum, oil routine. I buy the Rite-Aid generic ones for sensitive skin and I love them. Cheap and haven’t caused a single breakout.

Sorry you’re under the weather Muse 🙁 Hope your feeling better very soon! Ginger tea, raw ginger, whatever ginger, I swear by it for colds.

    • Isabella Muse

when I come see you, I’m going to share with my entire regime and watch you be shocked lol! I have a stupid anti-aging night time regime which includes SO many products 🙂 haha! I’m totally stealing the makeup wipe next to my bed thing 🙂 thank you dear! I’m ok hanging in! thanks for the rec!

  • Heather F.

I’ve been guilty of all of the above, but my biggest sin is not being able to leave acne alone. I’m so good about not touching my face until I have a zit–and then I touch/rub/pop/harass/whatever until it’s too late. I wish I could figure out how to break the habit!

    • Isabella Muse

haha I do that. I rarely break out but when I do it’ll be one big one that I can’t not pop!

  • Angel

Hahaha, be sure to bring a flow chart and a laser pointer, I’ll take notes 😜 Sometimes I swear I’m at that sink for a friggin half hour and I yell to my hubby that being a girl is exhausting. Plus I’m testing two different eye creams right now so that’s on more stupid step. And both eyes look exactly the same after 3 weeks lol.

    • Isabella Muse

LOL sounds like a plan 🙂 hahahahahaah I love you’re testing two different eye creams at the same time you are my HERO!

  • Renu

I’ve slept after passing a cleansing wipe over my face – and it always breaks me out when I don’t remove every bit of warpaint. I’ve gone three days without cleaning my brushes and Beautyblender and I’ve used eyeshadows past the “expiry” date of two years. I’m going to makeup hell, aren’t I? I’m also guilty of bursting pimples and peeling my own nails, though those are skincare sins LOL.

  • Katherine T.

I was running late one morning and decided to do a last minute smoky eye. Bad idea –I have oily lids, and didn’t prep, prime, conceal, or blend enough. Not a good look, and it just got worse as the day wore on.

  • Nikole

Seriously Muse, take care of yourself – a coworker of mine has been out ALL WEEK with the flu. REST this weekend.
Yes, I know it’s a sin, but I fall asleep in my makeup regularly on Friday and Saturday nights, sometimes on other nights. Sometimes you just like how you look and don’t want to wash it off; or you’re just too damn lazy after working hard all week (!!! I know, terrible) There is a reason I keep makeup remover materials in my shower so I can remove the ugly sin the following morning. I just keep applying the nice anti aging moisturizer products to compensate 😜

    • Isabella Muse

thanks Nikole. I really should but of course, I’m not one for stopping. LOL! I love that. “you look so good you don’t want to wash it off…” haha!

  • Rachel R.

This week I’ve fallen asleep in my makeup several times, after being really good about it for so long. It makes my eyes and skin look awful the next day, so I really hate it when I do that.

  • Kirsten Norman

Fell asleep with eye sheet mask and, much worse, GlamGlow Tingle mask (the original). I tell you, my skin was dry as a bone when I woke up 5 hours later. Peeling off the eye sheets was no picknic either.

  • Jay

I think the only thing that keeps me from sleeping with makeup on is because I’m Black and that ish will stain the crap out if my pillow cases!! Brown stains in the bed are SO not cool lol!! I’m guilty of relying on makeup wipes and skipping my nighttime routine. I definately notice in my skin, so I’ll have a great routine for a while, get lazy and then repeat the cycle.

  • KissMySparkle

All week I’ve been working long hours, getting up extra early to shovel snow, battling snowy and icy roads and the traffic on them, coming home from work and having to shovel again… this has been my life for the past week. I think it was Wednesday or Thursday night that I did the same thing–I lay in bed intending to watch some Netflix, and crashed out in my full makeup face. I never do that! I wish I hadn’t, too, because I have really sensitive eyes, and sleeping with mascara on is bad, bad, bad for them.

  • Kiss & Make-up

All through my teens and early twenties I slept in my make-up… Silly silly me 🙁 Now my biggest beauty sin is probably picking at pimples.

  • Ruth

When I fall asleep in my make up, it’s just testing the 24hr claims that they make of what amazing performance their product provides. at least that’s what i tell myself 😉 the eye shadow that looks amazing the next morning is the l’oreal infallibles. the colors are still vibrant and didn’t end up in my eyebrows.

I’m guilty of picking at my face. Zits, black heads, weird black hairs that are now growing out of my mole (thanks age, you’re a jerk), it’s a compulsion.

hope you’re feeling better soon! being sick is just awful.

    • Isabella Muse

lol that works ruth 🙂 hahahahah! I’m good. It was a quick bug thankfully, sore throat, bit stiffly!

  • Sarah

I actually can’t go to bed without doing my night time skin routine. I just love doing it! It makes me feel amazing and fresh and awesome because I finally have a routine that helps my skin without any questions of problematic ingredients. It’s my daily pampering!

My sin is not washing my brushes enough. I try to do weekly, but sometimes I slip! Awful and unhygienic, right? 🙁

  • Nike

I haven’t changed out my clarisonic brush since last summer.. x_x But I don’t see why I should have to buy a new brush if I just clean the brush with hot water and an antibacterial soap.

  • Deb

I’d fall asleep with my makeup on, but… miss a minute of Walking Dead, no way!

  • MandyB

My makeup sin would be removing my eye makeup but not washing my entire face (I normally only wear tinted moisturizer or a CC cream) if I’m too tired. I completely agree that falling asleep during Walking Dead is a bigger sin though! I haven’t watched last night’s episode yet though since we were out rocking it to Machine Head! Feel better soon gorgeous lady!

  • Pattykate

Sometimes I don’t wash my face at night if I haven’t worn make up during the day. My biggest mortal sin is that my make up brushes are filthy!! I use great skin care and then use this disgusting brushes. You’ve shamed me–brushes get cleaned tonight!!

  • Chrissy

Um, a lot of the above + dare I say it? I don’t follow makeup expiration dates :I I’ll use mascara & my HG Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base well past the suggested 2 month toss date… pretty much until it’s gone, too dry for my liking, or I’ve moved onto other mascaras to try.

  • Cindy

You know those old fashion face scrubs, those with the harsh particles in it? Peeling my pace with acid just doen’t give me the same satisfaction so I still use the harsh scrubs. Ofcourse I don’t use the Freeman stuff (that is beyond harsh) but the really, really, really soft one from Origins is still not as soft as my skin would like it to be. But the smell is a-mah-zing and then feeling the little walnut parts under your hands, love it. If I didn’t loved my face as much as I do, I would scrub for an hour.

  • Lia

Not my fault but sneezing when applying my bloody mascara and then badly concealing the subsequent panda-effect. I never sneeze in life except when applying precarious eye make-up frustrating as hell. Also exam time makeup removal neglect has occurred many a time
