Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream

Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream ($16.99) is one of two new skincare products that Cerave has launched for Spring 2015.

Cerave already has their Facial Moisturizing Lotion which is recommended for nightly use. I actually used that as a daily moisturizer as it isn’t rich enough to act as a night cream for me. So imagine my delight when they introduced a thicker night cream in the form of the new Skin Renewing Night Cream.

Let’s take a look!

Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream is actually marketed as an anti-aging formula and also one of the first products Cerave has launched in the anti-aging category of products. This is marketed for addressing lines, wrinkles, and even loss of elasticity. It contains Vitamin B as well as niacinamide which seem to me to be two of the better anti-aging ingredients in this formula.

Unfortunately it does come housed in a plastic jar which means the good for you ingredients it does contain will likely not keep well over time. However, right now, this second, I’m loving it none the less.

Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream 1

This is quite a thicker formula that reminds me of a body moisturizer. It’s fragrance-free and absorbs easily into skin without leaving me feeling greasy or shiny. I was worried it would be too rich but it’s just right on my drier skin. I started testing it by forgoing my entire skin regime to see how it worked and effected my skin. So no serum, no toner, no lotion, etc…I tend to have a crazy amount of products I use on my face in the evenings so I just quite them temporarily while I tested this out.

Honestly, I get great results with the first use. I applied in the evening and woke up with softer, smother skin plus my skin looked brighter. I tend to have flakier areas on my face in the Winter and this smoothed away flakes and made my skin much more softer. It seems to have a knack for aiding my skin in retaining moisture as well since my skin looked smoother and softer throughout the day. My makeup applied more easily in the AM and my skin appeared more brighter. Funny enough, I felt like it made my skin look “just washed”! My skin tends to look duller without makeup but I felt really comfortable with a little cheek stain and concealer under my eyes after waking up the evening after using this! I just dislike how lackluster and dull my skin looks without a little smidge of tinted moisturizer or BB Cream but with this I felt very comfortable without it.

Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream 3

Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream did a great job with this formula. My skin seems to me loving it! I just wish they put it in a tube as the benefits of the Vitamin E and other antioxidants will likely not last well in this jar packaging! Sad sigh! None the less I’d totally repurchase this as I like what it does for my skin!

If you have drier, duller skin I’d highly recommend trying it out!

Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream is available now at drugstores or grab it online at Ulta.com.

I have to try this!! Have you tried the cleanser by this company? It has honestly, no exaggeration, saved my skin his winter!!

  • evo

i need this! Now when will it be available in canada? I don’t think i will be crossing the border any time soon because of the exchange rate. 🙁

  • Tracy

I picked this up over a month ago and I agree with your post. Unfortunate jar packaging but my normal to dry skin has been loving this thicker cream for the winter months. I go back and forth with the Dr. Jart Ceramidin cream depending on the state of my skin but this has has been a great inexpensive find.

    • Isabella Muse

I love the dr Jart myself 🙂 the lotion is fab as is the cream!

  • butakimu

The lotion didn’t work too well on me but I hope the cream would! The cream seems to have such great ingredients.

  • Bonnie

Oh wow, this does look fabulous. Will get it as soon as I find it in Canada.

Great review! I am going to put this on my to try list! Can’t beat a product that you see results with on the first use.

I use the moisturizing cream (during the day) and love it. How would you say this compares?

    • Isabella Muse

I’ve never tried the moisturizing cream, just the moisturizing lotion.

  • Dee

Another “must get”! I use their pm moisturizing lotion at night, but it’s NOT moisturizing enough. I’m using a Paula’s Choice serum underneath that does seem to help somewhat.

    • Isabella Muse

i just started Paula’s skincare 🙂 hoping to see miracles!

      • Bonnie S

I think you will see miracles with Paula’s Choice – she has amazing sun protection, AHA and BHA products!

        • Isabella Muse

YAY! I can’t wait I hear such great things! Also trying her vit c!

      • Dee

She truly has some great products and usually a sale, which always helps.

Knowing how exposure to light and air breaks down key ingredients (never mind the ick factor of constantly dipping my fingers into a jar, introducing bacteria), why do you think that companies keep packaging their products in jars?

    Hello Isabella,
I just tried this Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream and am already enjoying it. I usually spend way too much on my skin care and saw this, had a coupon so decided to try it. It is a very nice formula that seems to smooth and hydrate my drier, mature skin without irritation so far!
I use La Mer normally and was pleased to try this at such a reduced price.
Of course, we shall see how it matches up over the next few weeks, but so far it is a winner.
Good post! Love reading your blog. 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

Glad to hear it Elizabeth 🙂 Aw thank you! I’m so glad you enjoy the blog!

  • Rebecca Nichols

Hello! I am confused. Do you use the PM lotion and the night cream at the same time?? Also, what is the renewing serum good for and when would you do that? It seems like a lot to put on before bed! Please help me figure this out LOL! Thanks.

If you have Rosacea, this product is not for you. If you cannot eat soy, you definitely cannot put it on your face – soybean sterols. I just threw $17.00 away.

Just a few things to consider:

“It contains Vitamin B as well as niacinamide which seem to me to be two of the better anti-aging ingredients in this formula.”

    Niacinamide is vitamin B3.

“No serum, no toner, no lotion….”

I think it’s better to maintain the routine you currently have and slowly incorporate the product you are reviewing. The act of paring down your routine can also have a tremendous effect on the skin. Keep in mind dermatologists are always recommending patients to keep things simple.

In any case, Cerave breaks me out but they are a great line for many people. It gets the job done at an affordable price.

I bought the night cream today, I was surprised to see the jar 1/3 rd full, it is clear like vasilene and hard. Is this normal or did I get a bad one?

  • Nisha

Wow! I’m really excited to try this out specially after reading your post. I think it would be a great anti ageing cream to start in my early twenties.

    • Isabella Muse

It’s quite nice! I do wish it was in a tube though!
