L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Last Lip Color

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Last Lip Color ($12.99) is a new 24 shade range of permanent liquid lipsticks that launched with the L’Oreal Spring 2015 Collection.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Last Lip Color is a 2 step lip color system that comes housed in a dual sided barrel which has a highly concentrated liquid lip color on one end and a color lock balm located on the other end. Apparently they promise 24 hours of coverage without dryness but lord knows I’m not going to spend 24 hours in lipstick or gloss of any kind. Tops, I’d say 14 hours but 24? Naaa.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Last Lip Color is iffy for me for a few reasons. 1. I’ve tried plenty of 2 step liquid lip colors like this in the past and they have been very drying 2. They also tend to be difficult to remove! and 3. I’m the type of girl that likes the idea of a lip color that will last for several others but doesn’t technically like the idea when put into practice as I feel weird wearing a color on my lips for more than six hours…! I dunno why but yeah, there’s that weirdness going on in my life.

The pricing is actually obscene on this product. When they originally launched I paid full price at Walgreens for $14 each. Yeah, ok, someone have my head examined for that crazy purchase. For a few bucks more I could go to Sephora and grab myself an Urban Decay Lipstick or something! On the upside, since they are drugstore picks you’ll likely never have to spend that much due to sales and coupons.

As I mentioned above these are dual sided with the color located on one end and the clear balm on the other. Covergirl has done a product like this as has Revlon I think? I’ve tried a lot of them but many are really, really drying as time goes by and they tend to crack and look really fuzzed up by the end of the day. Long lasting yes but the color is all wacked out and dry by the end of the day and you don’t have the means to remove it (you’ll need an oil based eye and lip remover) so you’re left with grossness on your lips! Not cool!

That’s part of what made me extra wary of trying out L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Last Lip Color as I expected much of the same performance!

The liquid lipstick is a treat. It’s thick with a shiny finish and the texture and consistency of a gloss. It feels very pleasant on my lips and applies with easy. You’ll have to wait a minute for it to set. As it sets it does tighten every so slightly and it loses some of its initial glossiness. I let it settle for a minute before applying the balm. The balm adds moisture, a hint of a shine, and sets the lip color for all day wear. The balm is a simply clear shade nothing special about it. It applies easily onto my lips.

I can get around four hours of wear from the color before I feel a LITTLE dry. Color does not migrate, does not fade, does not crack, or flake, and remains intense and true at that four hour mark. It progresses very well into hour five, six, seven, and eight. However, as I said hour four is a bit dry and hours after that will be too so I travel with this and I apply the balm to keep my lips moist. The dryness isn’t the dryness I’ve experience from wear long liquid products like this in the past though! It’s very subtle so it isn’t something that’s awful! It isn’t a cracking dryness either because the color remains very smooth on my lips and doesn’t settle into my natural lip lines as the color dries. I still like keeping the balm around though for a bit of a touch up.

These do have a very slight perfume flavor and fragrance but it isn’t overkill the way some L’Oreal lip products are. I should mention you WILL NEED an oil based eye and lip remover to get color off your lips as it doesn’t remove easily without!

This a surprising formula and a vast improvement on past long wear liquid lip products. The application, ease of use, pigmentation, and wear time are truly great. If you’re one of those girls and guys that wants their lipstick to wear and wear and wear I think you’ll really like L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Last Lip Color.

Thanks for the review!! Have you tried the rimmel provocalips? It’s also a long wear liquid lipstick. I’m wondering how the two compare?

i actually have a reviewed scheduled for those today laura. I don’t like them, they are really drying!

  • Rachel

That red looks amazing on you! 😀 I can’t stand any kinda lip dryness, so I wear lip balm under everything. I never get great wear, but it’s worth reapplying to not have cracked, painful lips! I’m not thinking these are gonna be my thing… but the colors are pretty!

I’m the same way! I must have abnormally dry lips or something because I always want to apply lip balm. I can barely wear lipstick because of the dry feeling. I’m definitely a gloss girl. If I try and stick it out with a lipstick I’m fixated on my mouth the whole day. Not very productive!

Interesting… I have a love/hate relationship with these. I LOVE the colors – I think I have the same 2 that you tried. The Perpetual Apricot reminds me of a NARS Orgasm Gloss, and the red is a slightly orangey shade that is hard to find (most reds are too pink for my complexion). But I HATE the finish – I find them very drying, and I have found that after about 2-4 hours I end up with rich color around the edges while the middle of my lips have faded considerably, making me look like a clown. Maybe I need to re-apply the balm more often. I really want to like these!

hey leslie! travel with it! the balm helps A LOT in my experience. I never felt they were too dry thankfully which is normally the case for me with these long wear liquid lipsticks! But def feel like it gets a bit drier as the day progresses and the balm def helps a lot to relieve that.

I’ve been so curious about these and almost bought 2 shades while on a rite aid haul for 40% off l’oreal. But i put them back because despite the other reviews I needed to hear it from you! haha.. So i think today I shall grab one or two since I can get a great deal at rite aid with the sale and coupons i have 🙂

thank for a great review! I really like the idea of these with the long lasting color and touch up of moisture with the balm. at work i’m so busy helping others with continued face to face time and talking constantly that I don’t have the time to fuss or worry about reapplying lip color incessantly. I see this being an awesome work buddy!^^

    • Isabella Muse

oh my pleasure Lace! 🙂 let me know if that work for you? I’d be curious to see if you like!

How do these compare to higher end long lasting lipsticks? Like Sephora’s cream lipstain ($13, hello!) or Stila Stay all day or Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick? I love the formula on these and keep hoping to find a cheaper drugstore dupe. But $14 seems really high especially considering that it’s really only half a tube of product if you ignore the balm. (Who doesn’t already have a clear balm?) You might as well spend $20 on a nicer product where you get a whole tube. Drugstore prices seem to be catching up but not the product quality.

I have the Neverending Nutmeg shade and LOVE it. Definitely carry the balm with me all day. And this shade is a pretty good dupe for Lime Crime’s Cashmere.

  • Adrienne

Unfortunately these didn’t work for me. I experienced the dryness and cracking around lunch time and applied more balm and it appeared to highlight the cracks. I wasn’t able to get the color completely off at work so I applied more color on top, waited and then applied more balm. Wrong move for me. It looked horrible the only fix I had was some Carmex I keep at my desk and since it had a little oil based material to it, it softened a bit but the color didn’t come off.

I bought this on a whim – Incandescent russet. It was a little drying, but the balm is great and keeps my lips moist and smooth. The color lasted intensely for at least 8 hours and at 15 hours my lips are obviously stained and tinted, but not in a patchy gross my lipstick has faded way. I will definitely be purchasing more of these! This is the first drug store lippy I have loved in a long while and its the longest wearing one I think I have ever used!
