NYC New York Color City Proof 24 HR Eye Primer Review & Swatches

NYC City Proof 24 HR Eye Primer

NYC New York Color City Proof 24 HR Eye Primer ($3.49) is a new budget friendly eyeshadow primer that’s being introduced for Spring 2015 with a selection of new NYC New York Color City Proof 24 HR Waterproof Eyeshadows.

Let’s take a look!

No one can’t say NYC New York Color City Proof 24 HR Eye Primer isn’t a steal this twist up pencil (no sharpener required) pays home to 0.07 oz of product and can be located as low as two bucks and change if you wanna face a trip to the Evil Empire (Walmart).

This is a super fair shade that you can swipe over lids with the promise that it’ll extend the wear of your eyeshadows by up to 24 hours. Not that I’m running around Gotham in my eyeshadow for 24 hours but I like the idea that I can if I want to.

The formula isn’t really my cup of tea to be honest. It’s cream yes but it has sort of a plastic-y film when applied on lids. It does blend easily enough and looks soft and smooth once applied. I just wasn’t a huge fan of the texture, it feel like something was off about it. It will act to brighten up eyes on a certain skin tone where as others it might appear a bit chalky and pasty used alone. The color does in fact intensify the color of powder eyeshadows very nicely however, that’s about the extent of the formula benefits for me. I honestly didn’t feel this extended the wear of shadows. Yes, it made shades look intense and more vibrant but it didn’t prevent fading nor did it prevent creasing! If anything I felt like it made my shadows crease a little faster than normally would without an eyeshadow primer in place!

It does also have a very strong cardboard fragrance that really didn’t bother me but wasn’t really pleasant either which deserved mentioning.

All in all NYC New York Color City Proof 24 HR Eye Primer wasn’t terribly exciting. At the affordable price tag it had potential to win over a few hearts but I just didn’t feel the formula did much outside of giving my shadows a more vibrant look!

Oh well!

It’s rare NYC New York Color Cosmetics disappoints but this was a miss for me.

Oh man, I’m glad you reviewed this! I was debating on whether or not to pick this up because it popped up at my Target but it doesn’t seem like it’ll be for me.

mm I’m mushy mush on it Carrie. It’s cheap but even cheap it doesn’t seem worth picking up imho!

Thank you for this review, Muse! I purchased this primer a couple of weeks ago. I think it’s o-k and for the price, I’d swatch it up again. But my problem is the smell. When I open up the cap, ugh, the smell kills me but thank goodness it doesn’t linger after applying on the lids. Did you review their shadow sticks yet? I purchased that as well and the performance of those are Meh. I rather Rimmel London sticks over NYC. Maybe because Rimmel is a cream to powder while NYC is cream? A thin cream at that. :/

yeah! it didn’t bug me much but it was def there. kinda like cardboard! it wasn’t very pleasant. I haven’t but I have some to test out. I felt so let down by this I figure I won’t like the color ones either 🙁

The crazy thing if, in my opionion, the primer and NYC shadow sticks do not work well together! Its like setting color cream on top of color cream lol. I dont know. Very hard to explain but I got no color pay off adding the primer than their shadow. Powder shadows work well. You know what, I think it reminds me of those non-toxic cheap Crayola crayon knock offs LOL. :\

hahahahaaha that’s a good way to put it and yes that’s exactly what the primer’s texture reminds me of. An imitation crayola formula!

I have two of the neutral ones of these and they are OK. BUT the product started popping out of them in a big piece after a couple uses. SO annoying

I never really liked this brand. Their lipsticks are OK, but most everything else I’ve tried is just really cheap and awful.

I mean, I wouldn’t be opposed to running around Gotham, haha! I’ve been waiting for this release! I really like the primer they have in their eyeshadow palettes (with the primer and the “illuminator”) and I was hoping they would release it separatedly. But, judging by your review, I don’t think they’re the same thing. Too bad!
