NYC New York Color Smooth Skin BB Radiance Perfecting Powder Review & Swatches

New York Color Smooth Skin BB Radiance Perfecting Powder

NYC New York Color Smooth Skin BB Radiance Perfecting Powder ($3.99) just recently launched in two shades selections for Spring 2015 that will be available permanently at drugstores. I absolutely adore NYC New York Color Smooth Skin BB Creme and I thought that NYC New York Color Smooth Skin BB Radiance Perfecting Powder would be something nice to set it to in the Summer when the weather is warmer.

As you now I have drier skin and I rarely set my makeup with powder or wear powder foundations, etc…! However, in the Summer I do reach for powder more often than not. Since I do NYC’s BB Creme formula I thought paired up with this powder I could get a nice, sheer natural look that would wear all day as lord knows on a humid Manhattan day there’s no way the BB Creme along will stick around without setting with powder.

Let’s take a look!

NYC New York Color Smooth Skin BB Radiance Perfecting Powder comes in a flat plastic case with a half moon mirror and a half moon sponge for application. It weights in at 0.33 oz and comes in two shade selections of Warm Beige (featured in my review) and Naturally Beige. The packaging is actually really cute. It’s lightweight, super travel friendly as I don’t feel like it’ll break if I toss it in my tote, and it’s nice and small so it stores easily!

I actually like the formula too but beware! I got Warm Beige as I was worried that the Naturally Beige was a little too pink and it turned my face orange haha…! I seriously looked like I had done a bang up contouring job ALL over my face when I applied this So the colors do run a little darker I guess!? I think that’s the powder’s downfall…! Unfortunately two shades aren’t going to fit every single tone out there 🙁

On the upside the formula is soft and silky. I don’t know what I expected but I just assumed it would be dry and chalky possibly dense. I guess I went into it with the preconceived notion that it was cheap thus it wouldn’t have a great formula. It surprised me! It applied well and didn’t adhere to drier areas on my face. It looks smooth with a nice refined finish. On its own it provided sheer yet fairly nicely pigmented coverage for a natural, smooth finish. It wore very nicely with the BB Cream as a base! I found the wear stronger with the BB Cream at around five hours and a little shorter alone at four hours with fading at just about the four hour mark.

As I mentioned above the color did seem to morph slightly. In the pan it’s a tan beige but on my face it was more orange-y tan which wasn’t working for my medium fair, duller skin. Wearing it made me look duller and lackluster but this wasn’t due to a dry texture this was due to the color. I’m looking forward to trying Naturally Beige and hope that works better for me.

All in all NYC New York Color Smooth Skin BB Radiance Perfecting Powder is a nice little budget friendly powder. I liked it, a lot. I just wish it was available in a larger ranges of shades as two is not going to cut it for everyone sadly! However, if you do fit into the shade range you’re in for a treat. Silky, smooth, and fairly nice pigmentation make this a nice wearable powder for natural coverage or to set makeup with!

I saw this at target last week and wanted to try it but both colors looked wayyyyy tooo dark for my fair skin. I was quite irked. I don’t understand why drugstore brands and high end brands sometimes fail to have a broad enough color range and lack selection for fair or dark skin tones…. I’ll also rant that I was so excited to try clinique’s new 2 in 1 foundation/concealer and the lightest shade was way too yellow/orange I mean not even close! GRRRR

Maybe they will broaden their selection in the future. Sounds like it was a cheap thrill and that I would have loved it. Great review as always!

I think maybe they might if they see it becomes popular?! I hope! Yeah I picked the second shade big mistake! too orange! 🙂 thanks chica!

Yeap. I bought this and was too orange. I have light complexion. I cannot find the lighter shade anywhere though (CVS, Walgreens, Target). I agree the NYC powders are a very good powders for their cost-like their loose powder

I hope the lighter is better for us Maria! def orange! Looks ok in the pan but it morphs on skin!

I had picked up Warm Beige (I didnt even open it to try)and exchanged it for Naturally Beige after I hunted it down for a week HAHA. And I have to let you know that is too dark for me! Such a bummer! My face instantly looked tan in a bad way . And I consider myself medium skin tone. Foundations tend to oxidize on me as it is. I hope them come out with a translucent. That would be perfect.

AH thanks Len! was going to try and get the lighter shade but I know to skip now. I had this issue with this shade, it oxidized and went orange-y so yeah, I def had a snooki tan going on!

I didn’t get this one, but I picked up the Smooth Skin Pressed Powder in translucent a few weeks ago. I’ve been really impressed with it, it’s soft and finely milled and doesn’t get all cakey in my under eye area. NYC’s quality has been getting much better, I used to use another one of their pressed powders and it was stiff and hard to work with.
