NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer Base Review & Swatches
NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer Base ($17) gets a relaunch in new packaging for Spring 2015. You might recall that NYX originally launched this face primer back in 2011 with a range of other HD products.
Along with the Spring 2015 Collection they have relaunched NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer Base in a new tube that’s a little larger and a little more pricier than the original
Take a look!
NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer Base is now $17 and weights in at 1.07 oz and if my brain is working right the old version was 1.06 oz and $14 dollars. So not a ton of change here! The older packaging was a circular bottle with an attached pump and this newer version is a squeeze tube.
The formula seems to me the same, nothing has changed!
Face primer for me isn’t necessarily about concealing pores but more about hopefully extending the wear of my foundation and also hydrating my drier skin. I personally prefer a hydrating primer and I remember when originally purchasing NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer Base I thought it would be a traditional silicone primer. It is not. It’s actually a loose, thin creamy texture that absorbs easily into skin. It it is a unusual whitish pale blue shade which is scary at first as I worried it would look pasty or chalky on my skin but it does not.

The texture is interesting because it starts watery but it does adhere to skin in a way that it creates a sort of secondary skin for foundation to sit atop! So I do feel it extends the wear of my foundation by an extra few hours for good extended wear as well as creates a very bright appearance as I’m not nearly as dull once I apply this. It has a knack for keeping makeup fresher, longer.
All in all you get multiply benefits when using this. It preps, it perfects, it brightens, and it extends the wear of foundation. It was good when it first launched back in 2011 and it’s still a great little primer to this day!
NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer Base is available now at Ulta and Ulta.com.
