L’Oreal Eva’s Red Colour Riche Lipstick Review & Swatches

L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick Eva

L’Oreal Eva’s Red Colour Riche Lipstick is a custom shade of lipstick inspired by Eva Longoria that makes an appearance in the new L’Oreal Collection Private Pure Reds Lipstick Collection.

L’Oreal carefully curated the Pure Reds Lipstick Collection with shades of red inspired by some of their current and past celebrity and model ambassadors. Each shade was created to flatter a different skin tone, hair, and eye color which in turn enables you to purchase your perfect shade of red lipstick.

I happen to be of the mentality that you should never limit yourself when it comes to color cosmetics! If you like, wear it! I don’t let any skin tone rules dictate whether or not I should or shouldn’t wear neon pink eyeshadow should I please. I do have exceptions to that little rule though and it comes in the form of red lipstick. Red lipstick happens to be like snowflakes, no two are a like. It’s a shade I delight in and put plenty of fear in as sometimes I feel like a clown when I’m wearing it. I do feel that some reds are better on me than others so in this case I tend to navigate to warmer shades of reds versus cooler, blue based ones. Do I limit myself here? Perhaps! But for me, red lipstick is the only exception I have when it comes to color and I tend to carefully select shades that look best on my skin tone.

This isn’t to say you should ever limit yourself! But I personally like the idea of a collection of red lipsticks with models who represent a range of different skin tones which helps me considerably when selecting my perfect shade of red!

L'Oreal Eva Colour Riche Lipstick

L’Oreal Eva’s Red Colour Riche Lipstick is NOT a red lipstick! I guess L’Oreal noticed that Eva is a true autumn. Medium, caramel skin tone, brown eyes, brown hair, Eva’s an autumn if I ever did see one. Her features (although my skin tone is a smidge lighter) are much like my own as I also have brown eyes and brown hair so her shade does in fact work perfectly for me. Is it red? No! Is it a lovely shade? Yes.

Eva’s Red Lipstick is a burnt brownish orange. It’s a warm shade of sunset that will work great for Fall looks and yes, well into Summer as it’s one of those colors that’s versatile for the cooler or the warmer weather. It is a satiny matte with a creamy texture that glides easily onto lips and wears well for five hours without migrating, drying out, fading, or flaking. L’Oreal hits the perfect balance of matte and satin with this lipstick’s texture as it isn’t too dry and has a nice velvety feel on lips. Granted, it isn’t hydrating but it isn’t drying either. The color is smooth and even on application with excellent pigmentation on a single pass. The color is vibrant, intense, and quite beautiful and like Eva’s own coloring will work well on those with medium to medium dark complexions with brown eyes and hair.

This comes housed in a special edition packaging with gold lettering and Eva’s autograph featured in gold on the tube of the lipstick. I don’t love the rubbered barrel which reminds me of NARS’ packaging as it kinda gets dirty and gross rather fast when handling it.

L’Oreal has a superb lipstick formula and Eva’s Red is testimony to it. But why oh why can’t they rid themselves of the awful play-doh flavor and fragrance? Unfortunately, that’s a big turn off. I try to ignore it but it’s a taste that gets in your mouth and just stays there! Yak!

All in all L’Oreal Eva’s Red Colour Riche Lipstick is a fantastic shade with a great formula! Not quite red by any means imaginable but still a gorgeous color!

I purchased L’Oreal Eva’s Red Colour Riche Lipstick at Walgreens but reports are in that they are making the rounds around drugstores and appear to be permanently part of L’Oreal’s Lipstick Collection.

Did you try out Eva’s Red?

I think this is my fave of the collection. It looks really good on you. It is almost more natural a red, in some ways, despite its boldness.

thanks Heidi! Yeah, it’s a shade that kinda does look red in a certain light! I’ve heard a few UKers call it brick red but for me it’s more orange-y, kinda burnt orange reddish brown! It’s a nice Fall shade 🙂

It looks great on you! And I agree about the playdough smell/taste…c’mon, L’Oreal 🙁

Picked this up this weekend. On me, at least, it does look pretty red (I also have dark hair and eyes and a fair complexion). I look absolutely terrible in reds with absolutely any cool undertones – they scream pink (a la dressing up with my mommy’s lipstick) on me. This is the perfect shade that I have been searching for – it is so, so hard to find! Now, if it were just an eensy weensy bit more sheer and moisturizing… I definitely need to pick up a liner for this one, since the first time I applied it was all over my mouth. But really, a gorgeous shade – one of the few I have found that is not either pinky-red or clownish orange.

I actually found this on clearance this weekend. Silly Walgreens. They didn’t have the display, so they must’ve just shrugged and tossed it into clearance because they didn’t know what else to do with it? I got the “because you’re worth it” polish for $3 too.

Hi, I stumbled upon your blog while searching for the best lip pencil/lip liner that perfectly suits this lipstick because we all know that Red lipsticks can be a bit struggle when applying especially if you’re quite a beginner at this. May I ask what lip liner would recommend that goes perfectly with this lipstick shade? Thank you. Great review! Would really appreciate if you’ll reply to my comment

Hi Jaemee. I hear that. Mine tends to migrate everywhere. I actually only use clear lip line so I’m not really sure of a shade that goes with this particular color. I tend to use a clear lip liner so color doesn’t travel outside my lip line. You might want to try that? Hope this helps! and thanks glad you enjoyed the review!
