Tarte Poppy Picnic

The new, limited edition Tarte Poppy Picnic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette ($38) recently launched with the Tarte Summer 2015 Collection and features six eyeshadows as well as blush to create a pretty look that will work for Spring and well into Summer.

Let’s take a look!

Tarte Poppy Picnic Palette

If the Tarte Poppy Picnic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette seems familiar it might mean you’re thinking how much it looks like the recently released Be Your Own Tarteist Amazonian Clay Eye and Cheek Palette which was available with the Tarte Miracles of the Amazon QVC Today’s Special Value released in February. If you ordered the QVC set you likely got in on the auto delivery option which means you’ll get a new set in June and one in October. Many have asked me if the Poppy Pinic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette was the one that would be available in either June or October shipments of the Miracles of the Amazon Set and the answer is no. Poppy Picnic is completely new for Summer 2015 and available for a limited time. Granted, there may be easy enough shades to dupe in Poppy Picnic but it is not a palette that you will see in either your June or October QVC shipment.

Tarte Poppy Picnic looks

This comes housed in a brightly pattered compact featuring gold and fuchsia bursts of poppies against a gorgeous gold background. Inside you’ll find a full size mirror and six eyeshadow as well as one blush. The palette has a clear overlay with the name of each shade written on it as well as a get the look card featuring instructions for two different looks you can create using the palette.

Apparently all six shades are limited edition and new aside from Glisten, my favorite Tarte blush, which is a repromoted color. Although I will say many of these shades are easy enough to dupe if you own a good deal of mattes. All six eyeshadows are matte in finish with an excellent texture that’s pigmented, soft, silky, and easy to blend. No patchy, dry issues here and absolutely no density. These shadows are formulated like butter and blend with incredible ease. They may be repetitive and easy to dupe but they are still gorgeously formulated none the less. I find matte eyeshadow is a pain sometimes so when I do find a formula that’s excellent I hold tight to it. Tarte demonstrates in this palette what a matte eyeshadow should really feel, look, and apply like! Pure excellence as far as I’m concerned!

Colors include:

  • Summer Breeze (matte cream)
  • Peach Poppy (matte peach)
  • Ice Cream Cone (matte chocolate)
  • Sweet Tea (matte tan)
  • Barefoot in the Grass (matte light tan)
  • Picnic Basket (matte deep brown)

Each shadow is 0.06 oz in size where as the blush is full size at 0.20 oz.

Lately, Tarte has had a few minor issues with denser blushes popping up in some of their Amazonian Clay Eye and Cheek Palettes. It’s just not the formula we’ve become accustomed to. Not the case here. Glisten is sheer perfection. I love this shade! It’s one my personal favorite Tarte blushes. It makes me wish they’d do more shades like it. It’s a golden peach with fine micro golden shimmer that lights up my entire complexion when I wear it. The formula is smooth, silky, and applies beautifully with a texture that won’t cling to drier areas or pores. It is the ideal Summer shade of blush!

The Tarte Poppy Picnic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette is a gorgeous palette for those that like quick, minimalist natural, nude looks! It’s a palette that will take very little effort to apply and still get you gorgeous in a few minutes. However, if you’re looking for something with a ton of vibrancy it might not be for you. I couldn’t help thinking as I opened it that it would have been so nice if the vibrant bursts of fuchsia and poppy on the cover of the palette mimicked the shades inside of it! I like Tarte because it allows me to go softer and that’s especially great for those of us with aging eyes however, a little pop of color now and again is nice.

I will say this is repetitive. Nice yes but if you have Glisten Blush (I bet you do! With backups!) and you already own the Tartelette Palette well you might feel this is a rehash of similar colors. Not dupes mind you but just shades that seem a lot the same. If you’re a more logical makeup buyer you’ll likely feel a need to skip but I see it being very exciting for those who just like Tarte and want a nice travel palette. I also think it is an ideal introduction for those that never tried the brand because this displays a lot of what they are excel at creating!

Yes I will! I even looked online to see if it was in stores, but the website lied and the store clerk said they don’t have them yet. If I have to order online, I totally will, because this looks like a great palette for me for summer travels. 🙂 Thanks for the review, Muse! If the formula is excellent, it will be totally worth it.

  • Flaky

it seems like Tarte spends more time working on pretty packaging ideas than creative color palettes for the makeup itself. The shadows here are nothing I need given the vast selection of neutral mattes in the Christmas palette, or the tartlette palette (which I skipped). I like Tarte a lot, but I was really hoping to see something new.

I’m holding out for someone to create a comprehensive green palette.

  • Missy

I literally JUST ordered this! Can’t wait to get it – those mattes look divine 🙂 Especially that chocolately brown!

  • devon

i would say no to purchasing, but then i would be lying to myself. and probably the round compact. and maybe the other one from sephora. but shhh. don’t let me know that!! :]

  • Caroline

Thanks for the review! This palette is so pretty on the outside, but you’re right – I wish some of those beautiful bright pinks and purples had made it to the inside!! I like the look of that peachy-pink shadow, and I actually don’t have the blush already, but I still think I will skip this one. I bought the Be Your Own Tarteist palette and just can’t justify another one with a similar format so soon!

    • Isabella Muse

that would be lovely! Particularly, I’d love to see some golden peaches and poppies 🙂 You NEED this blush it’s divine Caroline 🙂 my fab shade!

  • Isis

I got this over the weekend in my Sephora. They didn’t have them on display but the nice SA got one out of the back for me. I’ve been wearing it daily since then and I love it!

  • Janessa

The shadows on the right look very similar to the trio that just came out with the new IT kit from a few weeks ago. Do you think they’re close??

    • Pam

I thought the same thing, although the lightest shade in the It trio is a shimmer. The It brown might be a little lighter too. Even if they’re not dupes, they certainly evoke the same, if not similar look.

  • kimkats

Hells to the bells yes I’mmana be ordering this! I don’t have that blush, and I don’t care if the shadows are essentially repeats of the tartlette one (which I am wearing today! the blush alone is $26 so for another $12 I’m getting a bunch of shadows. (C’mon… work with me here!) Thank you for the swatches, Muse!! I have this in my sephora basket just waiting for the sale to start… 😀 Along with a crapton of other things… It think it’ll be my biggest sephora order ever, and it will get me halfway to staying VIB! I love having lemmings and a means to get ’em a little cheaper… Man, I am all about the cheap today, aren’t I?! 😀

    • Isabella Muse

lol kim! 😀 sounds like a plan girl! 😀 and you’re right there’s a lot of goodness here!

  • Kiss & Make-up

I like it! But I put myself on a pretty strict no buy, so…

    /sigh 🙁

  • Ashley

Never purchased anything from Tarte before, but their stuff looks like quality. Highly pigmented. You look so good with the red lipstick! That shade looks so good on you!

  • Icequeen81

looks great but for me more neutrals and another shade of blush

  • Fancie

The packaging is so darn cute! I like the shadows and blush too. Looks like a nice palette for beginners

  • NJ

I love the fact that the shadows are matte. I wish the blush was too. I don’t need anymore neutral shadows however 🙁

  • Maria

Muse, is compact made in China or USA? Thanks again. looks pretty.

  • warpaintny17

This looks really nice! The blush looks very similar to Nars Orgasm. What lip products are you wearing? I love the red and nude lip colors on you!

    • Isabella Muse

oh thank you warpaintny! They are some of the new urban decay glosses I’ll have a review shortly (can’t recall the names at the moment haha)

  • Carolyn

Looking very springy and as if you’re ready for your own picnic, Muse!

I purchased aTarte palette from Macy’s when I started on my new crusade to buy new make-up and begin my new obsession ( having fun, going broke ). I didn’t know much about the brand and wish I paid more attn to all the QVC shows when it was presented. Darn!

That said I enjoy my Macy’s find and think the two are similar so will pass. But…the blush is pretty ( I am in the market for a blush, with all the make up I’ve gathered the past couple of weeks, will u believe I do not own a blush? I’m using some BE powder as make shift now! ) and will need to run to the store and get help picking up the perfect color.

I will admire the pretty packaging and sigh with the I wants from afar…. 😊

    • Isabella Muse

haha thanks Carolyn! Yay! So glad you got a tarte palette you’re loving from macys 😀 Yeah QVC has a lot of great deals! Do keep your eye on the site as lovely goodies pop up as special value. Oh I’m a total blush h0r! You gotta get in there and start grabbing some shades ;-D

  • Diana

I’m torn! Glad to know Glisten is a repeat. That makes a difference. My initial reaction is to buy it (bc hoarder) but I’m thinking I might hold off. The new Showstopper palette looks like a better deal. Will you be reviewing it? Is it LE? There seem to be conflicting reports on this…

    • Isabella Muse

Hey Diana yes review on the way of the showstopper 🙂 There is indeed conflicting reports! It is LE or at least that’s what the press release says! Hope this helps! 🙂

  • zVintageFashionizta

I like this palette except for the blush, does the blush look like it could be removed without damaging the palette?

  • majick

I have glisten and the auto-delivery from the Q so I will definitely pass. It seems that the AD is mostly browns and bronze as well so I’m getting bored and I haven’t even received the second shipment. I was truly excited about this one until I saw what was inside.
I do think this would be fab for anyone who missed the tsv.

  • Sissi

Oh this looks like pure perfection- awesome on the go or for travel! The colors are right up my alley! And the gorgeous packaging!

  • kim

I Already own glisten and I love it. But I want this palette so bad. Tarte hit a home run wit this style palette. They are so pretty and Perfect for travel. The palette from the February qvc set has blown my mind.

  • Natalye

the packaging is beautiful but I have too many of these colors already

  • Genevieve

I am sorry, but this palette looks boring to me – no colours and lots of dupable ones. However I can see that it would suit a lot of complexions and would be handy for travelling.
    Looks lovely on you Isabella.

    • Isabella Muse

thanks chica! Understand! sometimes shades are just a rerun!

  • devon

so i picked up the glisten blush because all of you love it, and i had to have it (obviously). UNTIL! i was in sephora yesterday and compared the single blush to the palette, and the blushes are the exact same size–0.2 oz. for $12 more, i can get the same size blush and 6 shadows. i returned the blush and got the palette :] see?? i justified it!!!

    • Isabella Muse

YAY devon! That’s a fav of mine so glad you love it 😀 hahaha! totally justified!

  • Elle

Have you been the sent the second June shipment from the Tartiest collection launched in Feb yet? I have searched far and wide and am debating on cancelling my auto delivery because I have yet to see anything come out about it yet

  • Elle

sorry for the double post, I meant to click on the notify me via email button before I hit send 🙂
