Tarte Poppy Picnic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette Review & Swatches
The new, limited edition Tarte Poppy Picnic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette ($38) recently launched with the Tarte Summer 2015 Collection and features six eyeshadows as well as blush to create a pretty look that will work for Spring and well into Summer.
Let’s take a look!
If the Tarte Poppy Picnic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette seems familiar it might mean you’re thinking how much it looks like the recently released Be Your Own Tarteist Amazonian Clay Eye and Cheek Palette which was available with the Tarte Miracles of the Amazon QVC Today’s Special Value released in February. If you ordered the QVC set you likely got in on the auto delivery option which means you’ll get a new set in June and one in October. Many have asked me if the Poppy Pinic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette was the one that would be available in either June or October shipments of the Miracles of the Amazon Set and the answer is no. Poppy Picnic is completely new for Summer 2015 and available for a limited time. Granted, there may be easy enough shades to dupe in Poppy Picnic but it is not a palette that you will see in either your June or October QVC shipment.
This comes housed in a brightly pattered compact featuring gold and fuchsia bursts of poppies against a gorgeous gold background. Inside you’ll find a full size mirror and six eyeshadow as well as one blush. The palette has a clear overlay with the name of each shade written on it as well as a get the look card featuring instructions for two different looks you can create using the palette.
Apparently all six shades are limited edition and new aside from Glisten, my favorite Tarte blush, which is a repromoted color. Although I will say many of these shades are easy enough to dupe if you own a good deal of mattes. All six eyeshadows are matte in finish with an excellent texture that’s pigmented, soft, silky, and easy to blend. No patchy, dry issues here and absolutely no density. These shadows are formulated like butter and blend with incredible ease. They may be repetitive and easy to dupe but they are still gorgeously formulated none the less. I find matte eyeshadow is a pain sometimes so when I do find a formula that’s excellent I hold tight to it. Tarte demonstrates in this palette what a matte eyeshadow should really feel, look, and apply like! Pure excellence as far as I’m concerned!
Colors include:
- Summer Breeze (matte cream)
- Peach Poppy (matte peach)
- Ice Cream Cone (matte chocolate)
- Sweet Tea (matte tan)
- Barefoot in the Grass (matte light tan)
- Picnic Basket (matte deep brown)
Each shadow is 0.06 oz in size where as the blush is full size at 0.20 oz.

Lately, Tarte has had a few minor issues with denser blushes popping up in some of their Amazonian Clay Eye and Cheek Palettes. It’s just not the formula we’ve become accustomed to. Not the case here. Glisten is sheer perfection. I love this shade! It’s one my personal favorite Tarte blushes. It makes me wish they’d do more shades like it. It’s a golden peach with fine micro golden shimmer that lights up my entire complexion when I wear it. The formula is smooth, silky, and applies beautifully with a texture that won’t cling to drier areas or pores. It is the ideal Summer shade of blush!

The Tarte Poppy Picnic Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette is a gorgeous palette for those that like quick, minimalist natural, nude looks! It’s a palette that will take very little effort to apply and still get you gorgeous in a few minutes. However, if you’re looking for something with a ton of vibrancy it might not be for you. I couldn’t help thinking as I opened it that it would have been so nice if the vibrant bursts of fuchsia and poppy on the cover of the palette mimicked the shades inside of it! I like Tarte because it allows me to go softer and that’s especially great for those of us with aging eyes however, a little pop of color now and again is nice.
I will say this is repetitive. Nice yes but if you have Glisten Blush (I bet you do! With backups!) and you already own the Tartelette Palette well you might feel this is a rehash of similar colors. Not dupes mind you but just shades that seem a lot the same. If you’re a more logical makeup buyer you’ll likely feel a need to skip but I see it being very exciting for those who just like Tarte and want a nice travel palette. I also think it is an ideal introduction for those that never tried the brand because this displays a lot of what they are excel at creating!
