Urban Decay Revolution Lipglosses

Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lipgloss ($22) is a new Summer 2015 permanent lipgloss launch that will be available in fourteen shades on April 15th when the Urban Decay Summer 2015 Collection launches officially.

Urban Decay has been all about Naked lately which, honestly, is quite alright with me but let’s not forget what Urban Decay is truly known for. COLOR! Loud, bold, vibrant color! Urban Decay Ultra Naked Nourishing Lipgloss launched last year and I honestly loved the formula and natural shades but for those that wanted something intense, well, Naked Ultra Nourishing Lipgloss wasn’t it.

Urban Decay hasn’t really hasn’t a had daring lipgloss launch since Pocket Rocket and really those weren’t particularly pigmented. Most fans want to re-live there Lip Gunk days and that hasn’t really happened until perhaps now!

Urban Decay Revolution Lipgloss

Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lipgloss is marketed as a high coverage, ultra pigmented formula that promises to lay down opaque color on a single application.

Do they?

Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lipgloss is an interesting gloss that I actually love to hate at the moment.

Here’s the deal..

These little bad boys come in a rather slick flat tube barrel with a metalized gunmetal cap and accents. They weight in at 0.17 oz in size and have a paddle applicator for application. The formula has absolutely no fragrance or taste. Now, it deserves to be mentioned some glosses say they are without flavor or fragrance but end up tasting a little plastic-y or perhaps a little like cardboard. These have absolutely ZERO flavor or fragrance. So if you’re a sensitive Sally you’ll love this formula!

The shades are fairly pigmented but I don’t know if they are Urban Decay pigmented. They have a fairly excellent color coverage but many colors I needed about two sometimes three applications for the best intensity and finish. I don’t like how these apply. I blame it on the paddle applicator perhaps? They have this rather dry way of applying that makes them look less than glossy and they end up look blotched up and streaky or even patchy on my lips. So on the first application I’m rarely happy with the results and I find myself going in for several more layers so the color looks more even and smooth. It’s just a weird gloss texture that doesn’t seem to spread well. Again, I think the applicator might be partially to blame for this as it seems to not saturate well with the gloss so you end up with a bit of dragginess as you apply.

It’s not a thick gloss nor is it super tacky or sticky yet it wears very comfortably and long for about five hours on my lips. Although they kinda apply dry and draggy they do feel pleasantly hydrating on my lips through the wear so they aren’t sucking moisture away from my lips but lightly hydrating them.

Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lipgloss has potential but doesn’t completely capture my heart. I wish the gloss formula was a little thinner, a bit slicker, and a lot more shiner. I also which they applied a bit better as at the moment I feel like they just drag on and look terribly patchy and uneven if I don’t pay special attention during application! On the upside, the colors are really gorgeous and there are some keepers in this release like 69, Brickhouse, Liar, and Failbait! I’m sure you’ll find one to love but beware as the formula doesn’t always play nice.

    Welcome back!

Hm… why do I feel like I’ve seen these before? Ah well, you look adorable in Big Bang. Yikes though, thanks for the honesty about the awful application. It’s a good thing I’m not big on any of these colours, guess it’ll be yet another UD product I’m going to walk right past.

  • Ashley

Wow alot of pretty colors. I like how you showed them all of you, to get a better idea of how they look on a real person, and not just swatches. What didn’t you love about these? The color pay off looks great.

  • Cindy

Thank you for posting lipswatches too. I love the colours of Liar and Brickhouse but unfortunatly the colours look very much the same as something I probably own already.

  • rosarita

What are you going to wear with the purple lipgloss? I have never seen a purple lipgloss. That pigment looks true as in like it doesn’t change.

  • rosarita

There are so many good ones here. You just put this on perfectly. Are you sure you didn’t photoshop your lipcolor on?

  • Jay

Thanks for the review!! I have a bone to pick with Urban Decay over their poor shade range of face makeup (dang it their new concealor is just too light!), but I’ll probably buy at least one gloss just to try out. Their naked glosses were terribly overpriced, faded fast and got all gunky around the tube so I’m a little gun shy. Meh…eventually I’ll give em a shot. I do like the wide color range.

    • Isabella Muse

my pleasure Jay! Hopefully these work out better for you than the Naked ones dear! I know…I had issues with the concealers as well, can’t quite find the right shade!

I love Brickhouse and Apocolypse, but Bittersweet is my fave! Such a pretty purple — I’m eyeing both the blush and gloss. Did you have to apply several layers to get that look?

    • Isabella Muse

two layers Katherine! That’s the best. One layer kinda looks patchy, a second layer gives it a smoother appearance and more intensity.

      • Katherine T.

Oh, thanks Muse. It looked so patchy and sheer on other blogs, nice to know it can look good with 2 layers. Really love the color, I will put on my buy list

        • Isabella Muse

two layers work best in my experience. I had issues with these spreading well so they appeared patchy. The formula was missing something for me 🙁 but if you apply two layers it looks smoother!

  • Witchy Killjoy

That Bittersweet purple looks incredible on you. And the Apocalypse. I want both. Ahhh.

  • Alison M,

I have purchased three of them so far and will go back for more. I adore the formula and the pigmentation. I do agree on the applicator though. It’s not the best and you definitely need to make a couple passes to get full coverage. I find this to be not at all sticky and migrate-y. I get long, comfortable wear without fading or feathering. For me that’s a gloss winwin and makes the applicator a minor detail and not really an annoyance. Will definitely be purchasing more.

Oh.. and buy lounge and fireball. They are excellent.

  • CHRISTIE

God, how ugly you are! How can people appreciate the beuaty of a product when such a monster is wearing it? Please, just swatch and review products without showing you horrible fat face!

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Christie. Thanks for taking time to comment and leave your opinion. In the future your comments will be deleted if you can’t interact on Musings of a Muse without insulting me. I’m all about helpful criticism or expressing your dislike or like of something but attacking me personally will get your future comments deleted. Let’s all act like adults and not resort to name calling and insulting strangers you do not know on the Internet. I am not a child, I am not in high school, and sometimes I am forced to act like an adult, I’m sure you can accomplish this great feat for yourself as well. My dear, life is too short to keep be so incredibly mean spirited! I wish you the best and I hope if you have some sort of issue in your life that makes you act like this you can resolve it. I welcome you here as a friend and fellow makeup lover and if you have something awesome to contribute in the future I’m all ears. Have a great weekend and enjoy the beautiful Fall weather.
