New Shades of Urban Decay Eyeshadow for Summer 2015

Urban Decay Riff Eyeshadow ($18) is one of several permanent and new Urban Decay Eyeshadows that launched with the Summer 2015 Collection. Actually, Urban Decay Riff Eyeshadow is one of two new matte eyeshadows and since matte finish shadows are such a rarity for Urban Decay it’s nice seeing a new one pop up in the permanent collection dontcha think?

If we’re honest with ourselves we know that Urban Decay is legendary for creating some of the nicest sparkly shades of eyeshadow around. Yeah, sure they have a matte or two floating around like I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to live without some of the matte shades in the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Eyeshadow Palette for example. But what the brand is really known for is highly pigmented, shimmery shades of outrageous eyeshadow! And they do them well! Fall out? Sure! That happens! But I still love me some Urban Decay Eyeshadow!

But funny thing is when they do decide to do a matte they obviously have a knack for getting it down right! Riff is testimony to that!

UD calls Riff a brown nude matte with micro sparkle. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking! “But how can it be matte with sparkle?!” I promise it works. There’s a very fine golden sparkle in this shadow but you can’t really see it on eyes in my experience with the shade and it applies sans sparkle or shimmer. Once blended out the color is completely matte! This is a nicely pigmented shade that leans towards being an orange-y brown which actually can be a shade that either really works for you or really doesn’t. There isn’t any in between here! It’s a color that looks either muddy or perfect depending on your eye color and skin tone in my experience. I think it works for me very well. Not muddy, not too orange-y, but just a perfect balance of light orange-y matte brown that really does something for my larger brown eyes. The texture is soft and silky and applies like butter on my lids. It just blends beautifully! This is how all matte eyeshadow should be formulated! Soft, velvety, pigmented, easy to blend…It’s just a beautifully textured shadow that makes me want to wear mattes.

It wears incredibly well too and I felt very confident wearing it without eyeshadow primer as it didn’t fade or crease with is typical for me when it comes to matte shadows. Either they lose intensity over several hours or I get a bit of creasing towards the middle of my lid but I had no issues with Riff.
