Covergirl Outlast Stay Luminous Natural Glow Foundation Review & Swatches

Covergirl Outlast Stay Luminous Natural Glow Foundation

Covergirl Outlast Stay Luminous Natural Glow Foundation is a new foundation that launched with the Covergirl Summer 2015 Collection which promises all day wear and with a radiant, luminous finish.

I’m not really a lover of luminous foundations. Glow-y anything just doesn’t work out well for me as I have a fuller face and I applying shimmery, glow-y foundation seems to put a spotlight on my rounder face.

But indeed, Covergirl Outlast Stay Luminous Natural Glow Foundation does so tempt…!

Covergirl Outlast Stay Luminous Natural Glow Foundation comes in a 1 oz glass pump bottle that will set you back $9.99 at drugstores. This released in a few shades but I believe it is safe to say that you’ll see it available in more shades and likely it will be a permanent addition to Covergirl’s Collection as we head deeper into Summer. It seems like some stores got preview displays, like Harmons, and that display only had a limited amount of colors but I’m positive they’ll be more.

Covergirl Outlast Stay Luminous Natural Glow Foundation (842 Medium Beige)

I’m not really a liquid foundation lover as I prefer creams myself so I wasn’t too keen on purchasing a liquid foundation but the texture surprised me and it is thicker and creamier than I imagined it would be. It reminded me a bit of Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Éclat Foundation in texture and just the general idea of the finish as well. It does apply with a soft, hydrating feel but it sets to more of a satin-y matte. But no worries if you have drier skin as I didn’t have an issue with this clinging to my drier areas. It had a very soft, even, seamless finish and didn’t feel like I was wearing anything at all on my face. Coverage is light to medium when built and wears for a good five hours with some fading at hour five. It has no fragrance that I detected. It does not contain SPF.

It doesn’t have any shimmer or glitter and honestly, I didn’t notice much of a glow on my skin but in swatches you can sorta kinda see a bit of golden luminosity in the blended finish on the left hand side of my arm. If you look at the ingredients mica is one of the last items on the list so this is where the “luminous natural glow” comes into play I guess! I tried it in shade 842 which is a medium beige since my skin is a bit darker at the moment. In the bottle it looks like a lighter beige but once I apply it on my skin is has a bit yellow to it which makes my skin look a little tired and dull.

Honestly, the formula isn’t too bad here! It’s just the color doesn’t quite seem right for me and my skin looks a dull and lackluster with it on. I think they went with a bit of yellow to give it a golden kinda glow but it ends up making me look sickly! Not a cool look! Who knows maybe another shade might work better for me!?

You might like this one. I’m just a bit meh on it myself. I like the formula, the wear is pretty good, and the finish very nice and natural! It’s just the color that I wasn’t particularly impressed with. Plus it could prove disappointing if you are expect-y a glow or a luminous finish so do keep that in mind prior to purchasing!

How long did it last ? I bought it in 842 as well – perfect match for my yellow based Indian skin . No drugstore foundation works for me because they are either neutral or with pink undertones ! I was both surprised to find a non pink shade from cover girl . On my skin , the covergirl shades typically appear not even neutral , but extremely pink ! I did a patch test but did not put it to use yet . Would love to know your thoughts

Whew. I am so glad you had a similar experience to mine. I thought my skin was being weird. I have more oily skin, but for some stupid reason I am always drawn to “luminous” foundations. But this did not do anything of the sort. If anything, it was blah and made my skin look a little dry, but nothing major. But I do like the coverage and the wear time is pretty nice. I just add a drop of my Sonia Kashuk facial oil to it and it does fine.

Yeah, it kinda sucks the luster from my face! Absolutely no glow and if anything it makes me look dull!

So glad this has a yellow undertone! I loved the finish of the CG 3 in 1 Foundation but the pink undertone was the deal breaker. I’m sad it didn’t work for you but hopefully it will work for me 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

Cindy, let me know if it does, curious what you think!

The colors definitely lean more yellow and the finish was nice, but the scent was horrible! I found it to be a very heavy chemical smell. Maybe I got a bad one?

    • Isabella Muse

gosh my nose must be broke, didn’t get the scent on this one!

      Hi
Im glad Im not alone. I bought 2 bottles buy 1 get one 50% off which was great. BUT THE SENT oh my gosh honestly smelled like corn chips, yes corn chips my face also felt a little itchy. I also thought maybe it’s me, no my family smelled it too.
I called covergirl and according to them these bottles were both new April 2015. I purchased them Oct.2015.
I really liked this product. However my face brock out in a burning itchy rash. I didn’t want to belive that it was the foundation but indeed it was. I was told it had to have been the “fragrance “.

I found this at my CVS and didn’t buy it, then kept obsessing and went back and got it. My skin is normal to a bit oily on my T zone and this left my face SUPER STICKY! After a few hours I had to wash my face. I couldn’t stand it! I’m so disappointed. I really wanted to love this. Also, it just settled into my pores on my nose and didn’t blend well at all dispite using a beauty blender, fingers and brush ( tried it 3 times). This was a big NO for me, I am loving the Hard Candy Glamoflauge foundation and Maybelline Matte + Poreless. Those two are fantastic. Better coverage, last all day and make my skin look flawless.

    • Isabella Muse

really?! I didn’t experience that at all! It’s quite light on me! Sorry to hear it Nadia 🙁

If you need any help choosing the shade, when I looked at the colors, these were closer to the True Blend shades than the 3 in 1 shades, even though they were the same number. I bought buff beige, yet to wear since at this time, I LOVE the Hard Candy formula

I HATED their 3-in-1 foundation.. it broke up and separated on my combo skin and didn’t last longer than 4 hours, no matter what primer or setting powder I used. I wonder if I should give this new foundation a shot or not.. I’m not a huge covergirl fan

The name Outlast Stay Luminous sounds like they are trying to dupe the NARS All Day Weightless Luminous foundation. I tried the NARS one and it was such a disaster that I returned it-clung to dry patches, fussy, not luminous, in between 2 shades, etc. I’m not a big fan of Cover Girl but I might give this one a shot. My skin has some yellow undertones, so this might work on me, and it doesn’t have any alcohol or added fragrance either. A lot of drugstore foundations run too orange or pink on me.

I just tested the foundation and my first impressions are this: I tested 2 colors, honey and medium beige. The finish is not luminous at all ( it falls between a semi matte and flat matte). I have dry skin and I felt it dragging my skin like it was pulling it(very weird). Honey falls more like a neutral, medium beige is too yellow. Muse, I agree with ya! I felt blah with this foundation. And last but not least the sticky feeling was a total “le sigh”:(

    • Isabella Muse

🙁 sorry chica! I feel your pain! Just wasn’t entirely into it, seemed to dull my complexion majorly!

  • Michelle perez

I swatched this at my walgreens with the testers and it does contain shimmer/glitter flecks. I noticed it on the back of my hand. Still going to give it a try

I really dislike this foundation. I typically like CG foundations, but lately their releases have been underwhelming for me. I didn’t like the 3-in-1 Stay Fabulous, as it was too matte and cakey no matter how I applied it, and broke me out horribly each time I’ve tried to give it another chance. Plus, it oxidized something fierce. I thought this might be a better option since I am more drawn to dewy and luminous finishes (even though I have oily skin in the summer). This was awful!! I found it thick, hard to blend, and remained tacky. If I tried to get it to set, anything I used made it look smeary and cakey. After an hour, it was completely pooled into pores and lines I didn’t even know existed, even though I used a primer (I think I’ve tried 3 primers total with this product and the results were the same. Smashbox, Mary Kay Timewise, and Hourglass). It looked horrible in natural light and the only luminous effect I noticed was the shine from how greasy it made me, lol.
    So disappointed!
