Does the Makeup Eraser? Sephora Thinks So!

Makeup Eraser

The Original MakeUp Eraser is now sold at Sephora! So this means it works right?

Maybe!

I’ve read a lot of reviews on the Makeup Eraser. Some great, some not so great.

What is it?

It’s a soft cloth that instantly removes makeup with a little warm water. Wet the cloth, wipe your face, and apparently even waterproof mascara will be lifted away. Hmmmm! Now I do happen to exfoliate my face with washcloths or a towel but removing ALL my makeup with a cloth? Never attepted that!

Each Makeup Eraser will survive a thousand washes and all you need is a little warm water to remove your makeup with it. The ultra soft polyester blend gets rid of tough makeup in an instant apparently.

I dunno…

I’m skeptical but I want to try it.

Have you ever tried the Makeup Eraser?

Did it work for you?

Do share!

The Makeup Eraser is now sold at Sephora and Sephora.com (that must mean it works right?!).

I tried the knockoff version from Walmart and it worked OK except on mascara. I don’t plan to get this one, though.

mmm anything that promises to remove waterproof mascara with warm water has me skeptical!

I have this. It doesn’t work 🙁 It takes off face makeup somewhat but only smeared around my eyeliner and mascara. It wasn’t even waterproof either. Save your money.

  • Renu

Didn’t work for me either. I used it one night, showered and crashed, and the next morning there were (mild, but definitely there nonetheless) foundation marks on the pillow. UGH!

Ok, I’ve never seen this product but I’m assuming it’s some sort of microfiber cloth. I’ve used clean, wet mircofiber cloth to wipe off makeup before cleansing. It works fairly well with the exception of taking off mascara. It’s a cheaper solution (as you receive 3 cloths for the price of 1), and I’m thinking it probably works just as well.

I was over checking out reviews on Sephora’s website, and ran across this, under How To Use

    “Suggested Usage:
    -Machine wash before first use.
-Do not rub too hard on the face.
    -Do not swallow.”

    Umm…do not swallow?? Oh. Okay…

At any rate, if a person uses makeup remover wipes on a regular basis, I could see that this would be worth it for the reusability factor. It seems like it works best if you let it steam on your face for a few seconds before removing makeup. You could definitely get the same experience with a washcloth, but this is designed to be more gentle.

I thought it was really interesting that one reviewer uses it to take off her clay masks without mess. I have switched almost exclusively to sheet masks because clay masks are such a pain. I don’t think I need to spend $20 just for a mask towel, though.

I put it in my mouth. I taste all my beauty products before use 🙂

      LOL!

  • Caroline

Do not swallow !?! Lol! Good thing it came with a warning …

    I think I’ll pass.

Looks like a rip-off of Jane Iredale’s Magic Mitt ($15).

I have used the Makeup Eraser now for about 6 months. It has literally changed my life. I had used Mary Kay eyemakeup remover for many years. I had no idea I was so allergic to it until I started using the Makeup Eraser. My eyes would water for about 2-3 hours after I washed my eye makeup off. It was so bad I had quit wearing eyeliner all together. I saw the Makeup Eraser on Instagram and decided to try it. No more tears. At ALL!! I just use it to remove eye makeup. I also use it to erase my cat liner mistakes, fallout from eyeshadow, and eyebrow detail. I know this works. It works for people with sensitive eyes and allergies. It lasts forever and washes well. Not to mention the savings of not having to buy eye makeup remover. I’m very glad Sephora started selling it! Hope this helps someone like me that has a great need for a non chemical eye makeup remover.

Thanks Kerrie! Based on your experience, I’m going to try it as my eyes are horribly sensitive and I’ve tried countless eye make-up removers that only irritate the skin around my eyes. While other microfibre cloths might work, it seems this one is extra soft for the delicate skin around the eyes.

One more thing, it removes every trace of my mascara. I use pretty warm water, it’s not instant like liquid eye makeup remover. But it definitely works well IF you use pretty warm water.

  • Nancy

I have one and purchased one for my BFF. It DOES work! The secret is using really warm water, the warmer the better AND drenching the towel, not just getting it damp. It removes every trace of my Younique 3d fiber mascara. Truly amazing! It does not smear makeup around my face at all. Allso love how soft and plushy it is. So glad I purchased it. It’s great for travel…dries overnight.

I have this and I like it! I like to use it to get off the leftover mascara that my cleanser missed as well as my face! I would definitely buy it again, it’s not a staple, but it’s a plus for sure!

  • diane

i bought this recently and have been using it a couple of weeks. It does work for me- even removing stubborn mascara and liner. I do follow up with my clarisonic and proactiv plus cleanser on my face but I like using this first to get a lot of my face makeup and all my eye makeup off. It’s gentle on my eye area too.

  • Kendyl

I’ve been using these for almost a year, and while I don’t agree that it removed 100% of makeup, I think it is def worth the $20. I use it to take off my face makeup and follow with a cleanser. It is more efficient and cheaper than to continue purchasing makeup wipes and since its just water, there are no chemicals blocking my face wash from doing its job. It’s also nice because it doesn’t leave any residue behind!

  • BeautyMaven8

I just purchased this from Sephora—- I LOVE IT!! I am amazed. It removes my “only budges with hot water and soap” tube mascara, and is much less irritating to my eyes than makeup remover. I’ve been washing it off in the shower with a little soap. I absolutely adore it. I will be getting these for all of my friends’ birthdays for the next year, ha!!

    • Kris

I’m going to try it and if I like it, I would also purchase as gifts for my friends — good idea!

  • MJ

Definitely works. I use regular mascara (and a several coats of a couple department store brands) and it removes everything. Best investment by far!!

  • mushroomjoey

I was very skeptical before I try this but this thing actually works! It rubs off my makeup effortlessly without irritating my eyes like most of the makeup remover wipes. It efficiently removes both my light daily makeup and even my full face dramatic makeup. I wiped my face with toner-soaked cotton pad afterward and there is NO RESIDUE on my face whatsoever! However, after each time you use it there will be makeup (dark eyeliner and mascara, liquid lipstick) residue on the cloth and you cannot manually wash it out. On the package it suggest you to wash it once a week but if you use it everyday, the whole cloth is going to be covered with your makeup. I threw it in the washing machine and after one wash, the cloth is soft and fluffy again but it didn’t completely remove my liquid lipstick residue (bummer!). Well, it amazes me that it actually does a good job of removing my makeup. So I start wondering if any other cloth or towel would do the same job. One night I used a brand new microfiber household cleansing cloth (market price about a dollar each) to remove my makeup. And yes, it does remove my makeup just as well as the Makeup Eraser except for it feels rougher on the skin. Now what is the point of buying a $20 Makeup Eraser when you can just buy a $1 cloth and does the same job? Bottom line, with the Makeup Eraser or a cheap microfiber towel, you won’t need chemical-soaked makeup remover wipe ever again!

I actually bought some other brand towels at Marshall’s before I bought the Sephora brand ones, they are by Fresh Face. They come singly for 4.99, and each one is about twice the size of a Sephora one. I am pretty sure it’s the same as “minky” material? Have you heard of that stuff? It’s super yummy (not in the eating way!!! Haha) and soft, and popular for baby items and reusable menstrual pads, according to my many hours of shopping research on Etsy. I ended up buying like 3 of the towels from Marshall’s and love them. When I bought the Sephora ones I didn’t realize how small they were in the package, and I wish I’d returned them instead of using them, but the morning I opened them all my other towels were in the laundry and I was desperate to get the oil off my face…
Oh yes, I didn’t buy them for removing makeup. They actually turn out to be amazing to use on bare skin if you have oily skin! They get the grease off better than a plain washcloth and result in a lot less (like, none pretty much) redness because I don’t have to scrub with the eraser towels, I just wipe and off it comes, like magic.
Now, I do wear mascara and powder liner, I just don’t do skin makeup much, and my mascara usually is waterproof. I do find these towels to remove all of that, even if I have to wipe a little harder with the edge of my finger to get into my lash line, but it’s preferable to using face wash most times as I’m too lazy to officially wash my face AND even though I’m greasy AF the second I wash my face with face wash I turn dry and scaly, even when it’s something gentle like a cleansing milk (so weird). So yeah, water-only washing? Yes please.
