Maybelline Purposeful Mauve Color Sensational Lipstick is one of several limited edition shades that launched with the Maybelline Queen of New York 100 Years Collection for Summer 2015.
I admit to having the worst love hate relationship with Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor in all of makeup history. I love the budget friendly price, I love the fact I can get it in 100’s of shades, I love the packaging, but…the formula isn’t quite as great as one would hope for!
Am I alone?
It always feels unnatural on my lips. Kinda heavy! And in the barrel the lipsticks look crazy glossy and shiny but once I apply they are kinda sadly lackluster….! Sigh….! But I have made my piece with this formula and on some levels I like and enjoy it. And yes, I continue to purchase new shades because perosnally I really think Maybelline does a super job with the shades they release in the Color Sensational Lipstick line. I just wish they’d focus a little more on creating a formula that was a bit more hydrating and even a touch shiner.

Maybelline 100 Years Color Sensational Lipstick Swatches (Strike a Rose, Purposeful Mauve, Magenta-Bulous)
These limited edition shades celebrate 100 Years of Maybelline and come housed in limited edition packaging that features a New York cityscape.
Maybelline Purposeful Mauve Color Sensational Lipstick is not mauve!? And that’s fine by me as I don’t really love the shade mauve anyway! This is a rather delight natural rosy beige! It’s a nice nude, natural shade on my lips.
For those sensitive those does have a sort of play doh flavor and fragrance that isn’t particularly pleasant but it disappears soon enough. I find the texture a bit on the dry side but it does have some creaminess to it with a satin finish. I find the Color Sensational Lipstick formula seems to vary from shade to shade and Purposeful Mauve is one of the shades that is a miss in the formula department but a hit in the shade department as it is a delightful color! It wears for around four hours on me but feels somewhat flaky as the wear progresses. It applies ok but has a little bit of a drag during application. It is fairly smooth once in place and provides fairly nice pigmentation.
Maybelline Purposeful Mauve Color Sensational Lipstick has some worth to it. The limited edition factor and the color selection make it a nice pick but this might not factor into your purchase when considering the poor formula. I just didn’t really like the texture on this particular shade but I don’t regret the purchase as a little gloss will give it a better wear. But as I always say, you shouldn’t need gloss to doctor up a formula ya know?
