NYC Color Cosmetics Expert Last Lip Color Matte

My childhood is ruined thanks to the Jem trailer but at least I have NYC Color Cosmetics Expert Last Lip Color Matte to look forward to.

When I heard on Reddit several hundred years ago that they were doing a Jem live action movie I proceeded to run around the room in circles of excitement. I spent my childhood (and yeah, much of my adulthood) watching and rewatching the Jem cartoon! I had the dolls (How freaking cool were the dolls? The could kick Barbie’s a$$! They were HUGE!), I had the Rock Backstager with Speaker (which I betrayed Jem with by using it with my Barbies), I had the Rockin’ Roadster (Love the commercial where Jem ditches Kimber for Rio! So much for sisters before misters!), and yes, I even had the Glitter ‘n Gold Roadster.

Imagine my dismay after watching the movie trailer. Where are the Misfits? Why is Molly Ringwald Jem’s mom, aunt, keeper!? Where’s Starlight House? Where’s the truly outrageous music?

Excuse me why I pacify myself with $1.99 budget friendly lipstick from NYC because I need at least one awesome item in my life after this hot mess!

NYC Color Cosmetics Expert Last Lip Color Matte Lipsticks

NYC Color Cosmetics Expert Last Lip Color Matte ($1.99) are a permanent satiny matte lipstick that recently launched at drugstores in five shade selections. This are a cute beauty budget pick up if you want a little cheap makeup thrill. At $2 bucks each you can’t beat the price!

Each lipstick comes in a small chubby little barrel with that holds 0.11 oz of lipstick. Major pet peeve, these don’t swivel down fully so you have to be careful when removing and replacing the cap less you take a huge chunk out of the lipstick. Grrr! I dislike packaging like this so much!

Although promoted as a satiny matte I actually feel like these have a little bit of a lip balm texture. They have a slightly balmy consistency on lips with a smooth, even application that feels very comfortable and lightweight with a pop of vibrant color. To me the formula feels like a glorified lip balm with mega pigmentation. They aren’t hydrating or moisturizing but they aren’t dry either and they sit on lips very lightly with plenty of bright, fun color. The wear is around four hours on my drier lips. Speaking of dry lips I didn’t feel color clung to drier areas nor did it fall into my natural lip lines, I liked the smooth finish on these plus they aren’t a formula that migrates of feathers.

They do have one quirk which is the flavor and fragrance. They kinda smell and taste like plastic doll parts haha…kinda strawberry plastic.

Well, Jem is no longer truly outrageous but at least these little lipsticks are! If you want a Summer budget lipstick I’d say NYC Color Cosmetics Expert Last Lip Color Matte is worth a pick up and there’s plenty of money left over to purchase movie tickets because you know, even if the trailer blows, curiosity killed the cat so you know my butt is going to be the first one to the theater to see this hot mess for myself!

I know right?! And since when was Jem and her peeps 12 to 14 years old? I loved Aja & Synergy- not quite sure how or if she’s even represented in the film. Not too sure what they retained from the story line either other than young girls starting a rock band (oh and the pink streaks in hair.) I think they’re trying to market this to the wrong demographic. Kids these days have no idea who Jem is, they should market the film to their moms who would go see this film just for the nostalgia. And if we’re talking Jem, gotta mention Barbie and the Rockers… It always seemed funny to me Mattel’s response to the popularity of the Jem line of dolls. Sorry Babs, those Jem dolls were TRULY OUTRAGEOUS!

Oh ahem… those lipsticks are pretty too 🙂 Thank you for giving me the outlet to Jem vent Muse. Hugs.

rant away! I am! I’ll rant until I’m blue in the face about this one lol!

    • Isabella Muse

Jem was already like in her 20’s and she was the director of Starlight House. Now she’s what 16? and living at home with her Aunt!? huh? I want Eric Raymond not Juliette Lewis lol! Haha agreed! Those Barbie and the Rockers were lame in comparison 😀

      • Anna Fantasia

16? Wow maybe I need to watch the trailer again – because those actresses (The Holograms) look so very young. And how exactly does the Rio relationship work when Jem is under 18? Maybe its just the trailer- gotta hang on to hope!

        • Isabella Muse

seems they are going for 16ish not so much 14ish? but I could be wrong! haha too true as rio looks older than Jem LOL! Too true maybe it’ll be AMAZING and the trailer isn’t doing it justice!? that’s possible right? LOL!

Ok so I had to check. Apparently Aubrey Peeples is in fact 21 years old (which I guess I would accept since Jerrica Benton was in her early 20s but… I still just don’t see this film doing very well.

          • Isabella Muse

yeah but she isn’t technically playing 21 I don’t think, looks like she’s supposed to be playing someone in her teens? She lives with her aunt, etc…where as Jerrica was established and running a foster home, etc..I’ll totally watch it, might be campy good fun but for sticking to the actual Jem storyline, that doesn’t look like it is happening booo! Looks like a remake of Josie and the Pussycats!

already got ’em 🙂 my local comic shop got the series, which surprised me as they are all about catering to dudes! But there it was on the shelf one day! And I was hooked ever after. I purchased the foil hd set from Amazon recently to add to my collection!

Yea, the Jem dolls were the best. And, what? No Misfits? Insane.

The lipstick is pretty but I hate the smell/taste.

    • Isabella Muse

jesus I hope there will be Misfits, maybe they are holding out on the good stuff because no misfits would be LAME-o!

  • mandy

Why?! Why?! WHYYYYY?!?!?!?! It doesn’t look anything like Jem, not even close! Why did they even bother naming the movie Jem and the Holograms? They should have made a retro 80’s kind of movie if they wanted to do a Jem movie, not some 2015 Youtube succes story.
Do love the lipsticks though 🙂

  • Kristin

You’re making me want to go down in the basement & unearth all my Jem dolls! I’ve got all the Holograms/Misfits except one, maybe? And of course a few Jem/Jerica’s (many of whom received haircuts at my safety-scissor staffed salon!).

    • Isabella Muse

haha ebay ’em 😀 I’ve gotten some in my sttick! 😀 LOL oh no!

  • Miss D

I haven’t left a message for a long time, Muse (I’ve been in the hospital but doing fine now), but after you showed that trailer…oh I’ve got to TOTALLY rant here! I can’t believe they did this crap to the Jem and the Holograms cartoon. This SUCKS ROTTEN, STINKY, SMELLY EGGS! (in case you can’t tell how disgusted I am already- LOL)
You are absolutely right Muse: they’re showing the characters/musicians like a bunch of little kids; instead the original is more like a young adult soap opera with characters in their 20s.
Most of the real cartoon is about Jem/Jerica and her mixed feelings towards Rio (who dates them both),the Misfits sabatoging everything, and the original music each band would play…it looks like you get NONE of that here. URGH! And I am so tired of these stupid movie producers attempting to create an “updated” version of something classic or that had a major cult following. If you’re gonna have the Holograms sing songs that sound like Miley Cyrus or Katy Perry or whoever is popular now, then DON’T even bother putting the characters in 1980’s costumes and makeup please!
The ONLY decent thing I can say is that the main actress’ facial features are somewhat similar to Jem/Jerica’s look.
But you know what? I’ll probably go and see it anyway with my cousin; she and I can “BOO” and throw our popcorn at the movie screen! :p
BTW, loved reading the posts above of you and Anna Fantasia ranting back and forth! Thumbs up!

    • Isabella Muse

haha Miss D 😀 thanks for you rant and of course, agree with everything you said! And like you, I’ll totally go see it in the movies just for the sake of boooing it lol! 😀 I hope you’re doing better xoxoxo! Sorry to hear you were in the hospital!
