The Tarte Amazon Clay of Life Colored Clay Eyeshadow Palette debuts on May 11th within the new Tarte Beauty in the Basics QVC May Today’s Special Value Set which includes six full size Tarte products.

The Tarte Amazon Clay of Life Colored Clay Eyeshadow Palette deserves a post all its own because it is amazing. I’ve been hearing a lot of the Tarte Beauty in the Basics set being, well, basic! Lots of people want to see a little color from Tarte as they are a little bored with the nudes and neutrals that the plan favors. I admit I had a little moment where I was like, “Oh, hmm, another neutral palette!?”

But apparently they did some crazy formulation change and I’m all about it!

Take a look below!

Tarte has always had an eyeshadow formula I’ve always appreciated because I have drier, finely lined eyes. The shadows are soft, silky, and easy to blend and they just work great on my drier eyes!

With this new Amazon Clay of Life Colored Clay Eyeshadow Palette they really changed things up. The palette comes housed in a square compact with a full size mirror that features four shades of eyeshadow in Classic Cream, Simple Slate, Tantalizing Tan, and Breathtaking Brown. According to Tarte they created the formula of these shadows so you could easily apply them using your fingers.

The reformulation is pretty incredible and very different from the normal Tarte eyeshadow range. These have a very soft creamy texture that feels like a hybrid formula of both a powder and a cream. They are so buttery smooth and blend easily and flawlessly on lids with excellent pigmentation. The formula kinda threw me a little bit as it was unexpected and so different from what I know from Tarte. The buttery soft, creamy consistency is a very welcome and nice change up!

Like I said, I’ve always liked Tarte’s eyeshadow formula but I have to say if they went and changed all their eyeshadows to this new formula, well, I wouldn’t complain.

Yes, I know, the colors are easily duped but you MIGHT JUST want to give this palette a try to experience the new consistency and texture for yourself plus the set includes five other Tarte goodies including the new Tarte Smoothing Balm Foundation as well as a full size Lipsurgence, brush, eyeliner, Lights, Camera, Lashes, and more for $47! QVC also has an auto delivery option available which means you’ll get another Tarte Beauty in the Basics Set in August which includes a new eyeshadow palette.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. You’re killing me! “Muse Approved” is usually a green light but I cannot do it. I have completely sworn off Tarte. As much as these are my kind of colors, I know I have shadows that are dupes for these, probably even a few remaining Tarte ones. But I have added Tarte to my list of brands with which I am completely done and not purchasing anew.

    • Isabella Muse

haha ;-D I’m flattered “muse approved” does it for you! I know…I actually had a moment where I was like, “well I have these shades already..” but the formula WOW! Amazing improvement! If they completely switched to this formula I’d be happy! Because sometimes some of the shades can be a bit too metallic which translates as frost to me. These are amazing, very soft, buttery, not a ton of shimmer! really nice texture!

    notlooking, notlooking, notlooking,notlooking,notlooking…. Oh, hell I looked…
Now I must haz it even tho I’m sure I have dupes for it, but the tarte TSVs have been my downfall lately… Sigh… Well, now I’m off to look for what shade I am in the new balm foundation (which at least has a better name that the goof foundcealer, which is actually good stuff, but *dumb* name!)

Thanks for another lemming Muse…Just what I needed. NOT! 😀

  • kimkats

Hey Muse – Just saw there’s free shipping on it right now. Not sure if that’ll hold til Monday when it’s the “official” TSV, but thought I’d let you know.

Also, what shade did you get in the foundation? You and I are pretty much skin twins, so what works for you works for me… I was thinking light/medium?

    • Isabella Muse

yes I noticed that and was also curious if it would remain free! hope so! I got the light one! Light/medium might be too dark as the light had beige undertones and wasn’t really a traditional light shade! Light should be fine imho!

  • Maria

I got this kit but did not use it yet. I also noticed free shipping. I paid $3 shipping. I noticed the Tarte eye shadow in this kit is made in Italy and not in China like the other shadow sets. I just got the second shipment of Tarte 3 and 1 kit and shadows are made in China

i am ocd’ing checking qvc to see when mine will get delivered. tsv’s are my downfall lately. that’s ok. they’re better than crack. (my heart goes a fluttery when i see a new post or review up. like…digital makeup junkie blog crack!)

So glad to hear Tarte has come out with such a great formula, just wish they would come out with more colorful palettes. It seems like the last 10-15 palettes have been all neutrals. Will definitely check it out if they come out with some more colors

  • Mary Kay

I’m with Christina D and have totally sworn off Tarte. I just sent my A-D kit back from the Christmas TSV and am cancelling my other Tarte A-Ds. I may try this one, but I am so tired of everything being brown. You make a convincing argument to try it and your picture looks very pretty. Their last foundation (foundcealor) was a disaster and I love my It Cosmetics foundation. I think I’ll wait and see if they come out with these eye shadows on their own. I can just wait.

  • Denise

I’ve been on the fence about this since your first posts. You kicked me over with this review, though! The free S&H helped, too. Also the fact that the easy pays often disappear if you wait for TSV day to order. I got it in Light, since my coloring is pretty close to yours. And on auto delivery, although I’m a bit disappointed that the 2nd shipment will have a lash primer instead of a brush.

    • Isabella Muse

Honestly, don’t be disappointed, the brush is a little too large in this set Denise. I thought it was a bit useless. I wasn’t sure what to use it with as it doesn’t do a good job applying the balm! Maybe an eyeshadow brush in the next set yes but if they did another face brush like this I’d likely gift it!

  • Denise

The A/D description made it sound like we won’t be getting ANY brush in the 2ND shipment.

    • Isabella Muse

it’s replaced with a primer, there is no brush in the 2nd shipment.

  • Angela

What mascara are you wearing in these pictures? Your lashes look long AND voluminous. I want! I want!

    • Isabella Muse

thank you! It’s Tarte Lights, Camera Lashes 🙂

  • kimkats

Just FYI – I live-chatted with QVC, and you CAN change shades from kit to kit – you go to Modify auto-delivery plans, and apparently you can change it there! SWEET!! I am so all over this TSV thing now…. 😛

  • Denise

You can change foundation shade from kit to kit, but only if the one you want next hasn’t sold out. I’ve had that problem before.

  • Caroline

i received this but haven’t tried it. Now I’m excited too!

Lol, one thing about not having a bit make up collection is that these colors are ‘ new to me ‘ so I’m ok with the neutrals but would love purples.

    Love that eyeshadow case…so pretty!

    Have a lovely vacation, muse!

  • Genevieve

Just too many neutrals around for me, but it does look pretty on you Isabella. I am pleased to hear that one brand has improved its formulas for the better.
By the way, have a great holiday and I hope the sun shines on you.

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks my dear 🙂 <3! Plenty of sun thankfully 🙂 good to be home though!

  • Cathe

I actually ordered the Tarte set yesterday from QVC. The mascara is fantastic and I figured that and the brush (my dog ate my OTHER Tarte foundation brush), was worth the price alone. On TV though that brown looked more like a brown with a bit of blue thrown in. Do you think it’ll turn orange????? I’m also a bit–“um” about the foundation balm. I did have the Amazonian foundation and I found it to be rather drying on my mature skin. I’m hoping this doesn’t dry. BTW, are you wearing Tarte lipcolor? It’s beautiful!!!!!

  • Kiss & Make-up

I like how these shades look on you! The shades aren’t really me though. Or at least not me enough to desperately want it.

  • Gina

I really like this palette too, I like that you can use a brush still. I was a little worried that they would be like cream shadows, but they aren’t at all. Cream shadows do not work well for me, these are really nice!
