Beauty Confession, I Like To Watch Vintage Makeup Commercials On YouTube

Beauty Confession

I dunno if it’s much of a beauty confession but I like to watch vintage makeup commercials on youTube.

LIKE REALLY, really like to watch them. I find watching makeup commercials from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s absolutely fascinating. Now a I real confession would be that I also happen to like watching toy commercials from the 70’s and 80’s too. Like I’ll youTube up Jem doll commercials, the Mall Madness Game Board commercial, oh and I really love He-Man (I totally have a pristine Castle GraySkull on my bookshelf! That’s probably more a confession than anything else) and Thundercat commercials! Let’s also not forget that I really love the Korean Christmas KFC commercials and P.S. The Dream Phone Commercial is the awesome!

But this isn’t about action firgures or board games from the 90’s! This IS about Vintage Makeup commercials!

Here are some of my favs!

My absolutely favorite vintage makeup commercials are from Love Cosmetics. Ok, so maybe I don’t love them because they are about makeup but more because they feature songs from Donovan (who I ADORE)! But I digress, I also really feel like I missed the boat on Love Cosmetics the makeup collection looks like a totally awesome line of products. Are you old enough to remember them?

And of course, the Maybelline commercials from back in the day just rocked it! Like hello Lynda Carter aka Wonder Woman made Maybelline commercials! Drugstore makeup seems so much more interesting and appealing back in the day!

I just wanna say I can literally sit for hours and hours watching some of these commercials.

How about you?

Do you secretly serve up makeup commercials on youTube? Which are your favorites?

Do confess!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. • ElKay

Not only do I remember these. Love’s Baby Soft was my favorite.

    • Isabella Muse

mine too, Sunflower, Clinique Happy, and Love’s Baby Soft was like my first fragrances when I was in jr high! I can’t say I remember the Love Cosmetics range though 🙁 sad sigh!

  • devon

‘it’s just what i wanted! what is it?’ hehehe! i had love’s baby soft…and those bonne bell emotions perfumes–remember them???

  • devon

LOL this is me also, I am a HUGE Jem fan I even have the dolls, just missing Danse & even have a few She ra & Maxie dolls (eek I can’t believe i admitted that lol..)I love re-watching the old shoes, commercials etc.

When I was a little girl in the late 70s/early 80s, I could not wait to be old enough to buy Maybelline lipstick, because that was what Wonder Woman wore!

  • Carol

These were fun to watch. I definitely remember the Lynda Carter Maybelline ones. I think the Love ones could have used some help from Sterling, Cooper & Price though. Between Don Draper and Peggy Olsen, they could have came up with much better ads!

OMG I do too lol… and I love make up ads from over the decades, 20, 30’s, etc and I collect print ads that I find online and download 🙂

Haha I am soo guilty of this! I especially love watching all the Revlon ads from the 50s and 60s. I’m not gonna lie, I bought Revlon’s Fire and Ice and Cherries In The Snow super lustrous lipstick from seeing too many ad pictures! I also bought the super lustrous lipgloss in Pango Peach because there was an old ad from the 60s I saw. Lol! The pango peach nail and lip duo looked almost red in the ad.

    • Isabella Muse

OMG yes on Cherries in the Snow! those old 60’s ads were a hoot!

  • Eraser

I love to do this too! Of course I’m old enough to remember some of these commercials… Revlon’s were the most glamorous – they really made you want to rush out and buy whatever they were advertising.

I’m old enough to remember these and LOVE watching these on YouTube. Best way to waste time! I remember watching “Guiding Light” with my mom and loving when one of these would come on. I love the old Yardley commercials and there is one for Pot O’ Gloss where the girl in the commercial talks the entire time whilst applying it.

Had to laugh at the cartoon commercial where the girl says (after getting her gift) “It’s just what I’ve always wanted! What is it?”

  • cajuncocoa

I remember all of the Maybelline cosmetics used in that 60s commercial…they were among the first cosmetics I wore as a young girl….. the model has such beautiful eyes, too.

I’m 49, so my childhood was the ’70’s, HS was the ’80’s. The one thing I notice with fashion and makeup tutorials is they get most of it wrong…lol. I watch the commercials, have actual magazines from the 60-70-80’s, even make-up from then (for nostalgia, not use) and of course clothes. My Mom was an Avon lady for a while, we had makeup galore and my Aunt was a “beautician” and a crazy fashion icon (at least in my eyes). My favorite makeup looks are the ’70’s California Girl, beachy and beautiful. I am a huge Lauren Hutton & Cybill Shepard fan. Maybe that’s why I chose beauty as a career, I got my first 3-Step at 12. My first lip-gloss w/shimmer was a Coty “frost” lip gloss w/doe-foot applicator. Thanks for this trip down memory lane…and yes sometimes I still wear electric blue eyeliner.

    • Isabella Muse

lol soup thanks for sharing especially about electric blue eyeliner 😀 it just never goes out of style right?

  • calimom

Yes, I love these old commercials. I remember junior high wearing frosty white Yardley lipstick! I recently came across an old McCalls magazine from 1969 and the makeup and fashions were surprisingly awesome. I think the ’60s and ’70’s retro looks are making a comeback.

  • Jess

OMG I had both mall madness and the dream phone games when I was a kid!! LOL

  • Carolyn

Love these! Now guess what I’ll be watching for the next couple of hours?!
