Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield

A little mini Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30 was included with my Sephora Favorites Sun Safety Kit and I decided to give it a little test out!

I’m sure glad I did because I’m really enjoying this!

Possibly the nicest thing about Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield is the fact it’s a face primer that has a built in SPF 30 but not only that you also apparently get an anti-aging formula that has peptides which diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles with continued wear. You gotta love a face primer that not only protects but also treats your fine lines. I don’t have finer lines on my face in all honesty, but I did buy into the fact this had an SPF 30 but quickly reminded myself that at $65 sans any lines on my face it was mighty expensive and I could indulge in L’Oreal Miracle Blur which has an SPF 30 as well and won’t set me back near $70! Of course, the texture are a bit different though!

Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield Swatches

Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield is your standard, traditional silicone textured primer which feels and looks like Smashbox Photo Finish. I happen to dislike Photo Finish with a passion as something in it makes me feel very itchy whenever I wear it. Thankfully I didn’t experience the same with Murad’s formula. It smooths on nicely and provides a very flawless finish on my skin. If you have larger visible pores this is an excellent texture for filling and blurring the appearance of those pores. It has a velvety texture that feels powder-y as it sets so it will mattify and control some oil throughout the day which means your foundation will last a few hours longer.

The problem with this formula is although it has an SPF 30 I fear I am not applying enough for adequate sun protection. You don’t want to apply a ton of silicone primer on your face because it’s going to pill and roll off your face and it won’t make for a pleasant experience when applying your foundation. A little dollop will do you but in order to get a full SPF 30 you should be applying 1/4 a teaspoon and lord knows that’s A LOT of primer to apply to your face. I feel like you’ll get more beneficial sun protection by applying a moisturizer with SPF 30 or a separate sunscreen versus slathering yourself with a face primer. Granted, if it was a moisturizing primer I wouldn’t mind so much but a silicone one? This could get messy if you apply too much!

On that note, I will say this truly makes skin look flawless. I don’t have visible pores (except smaller ones on my nose) or finer lines on my face but this still makes my face look extra smooth and extra flawless. With foundation on top it looks even more incredible! It just provides a solid base for makeup to adhere to.

Unfortunately, the price is just a little too high to pay. Yes, it does contain a nice bit of good for your skin antioxidants and an SPF but the problem is there are literally dozens of primers that are formulated in the same way that are far cheaper. At this price point you aren’t getting something incredible unique or different from any other silicone based primer aside from some nice antioxidants for your skin and SPF 30 that’s almost rendered useless in my humblest.

Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield does make skin look great and incredibly smooth but that’s about the extent of it and for that it’s just too highly priced in my opinion.

Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield is available now at Sephora and Sephora.com.

Muse, u must try this mixed with the cover fx drops…its a one step flawless face!! A bit pricey I agree tho :-/

    • Isabella Muse

Trang, do you mix it with the drops? Or just apply the primer first and proceed with the drops?

  • Trang

I mix 3 drops with it and apply it with my hands or a kabuki brush. It looks awesome and its one layer! I hate wearing so many layers during the summer. I have also used it with my laura geller spackle n it looks fab too!

I thought this looked nice, too, but the price is just too high for me.

I usually hate silicone type primers because they don’t do a thing for my uber oily skin except make me look and feel even greasier, but I really liked the sample of this that I got from Sephora – until I realized that it made me break out horribly! So now back to my usual combo of Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer for SPF and general priming and Becca Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector for t-zone blotting.

AW sorry Jen! I was actually relieved it didn’t make me itchy!

I bought the full size after briefly playing with it in store, and then returned it after giving it a real “go”. First off, I did not like the smell. It was almost bad enough to make me gag, because it reminded me of something gross, which I shall not name. Second, I felt like it sat heavily on my face. I like products that absorb and leave me feeling like I have nothing on my skin, and I felt like I could feel this on my face all day.

lol..I think I know. It kinda smelled plastic-y to me or rubbery. it’s def heavy if you aren’t used to silicone primers!

  • lerina

Glad you liked it! The price and scent does bug the hell out of me, but I used some of my points I had at Ulta so I didn’t pay full price. As long as I can knock the price down a bit, I won’t mind repurchasing.

I would def repurchase if I could get it cheaper Lerina 😀
