makeup addict

Are you addicted to makeup? Do you sometimes wish you weren’t addicted to makeup?

Telling signs you could be addicted to makeup:

  • Your hands start to sweat when you enter Sephora or get near a MAC counter.
  • You have to buy that brown eyeshadow even though you already own 500 of the same exact shade already!
  • You stay up late because the MAC website is going to update with a new collection!
  • You have a hard time deciding on an eyeshadow because you have too MANY!
  • You find yourself browsing beauty blogs and look at pretty pictures because this is so YOUR pr0n!
  • You go away for the weekend and need a separate suitcase for your makeup!
  • You have to go to bed but find yourself dreading taking off the killer look you did that day!
  • You find that pretty powders and highlighters are to be purchased but never, ever used and stashed away only to be taken out on special occasions but JUST TO LOOK at!
  • You find yourself wishing you had more than one face!

And the list goes on and on and on….!

But sometimes do you wish you weren’t an makeup addict?

Mmm I’d probably be richer if I weren’t a makeup addict haha but do I regret it? Naa…! If you aren’t putting yourself in debt I say have fun! Enjoy it. Makeup is supposed to be fun whether you’re an expert at application or just a mere novice at it. I’m no great expert but I still enjoy buying it, using it, and creating fun looks with it and yes, even collecting it!

What about you?

Wish you weren’t one!?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I’m definitely a makeup addict, I can tell because the big desk I got myself to do homework at has been taken over by my makeup mirror, my foundation, and you know… a zillion palettes. As fun as it is to stalk the makeup counters, I do sometimes wish I wasn’t a makeup addict because I get sooOOOO annoyed when I go shopping and my friends are like “you paid WHAT for that eyeliner? That’s way too much”. Muse, we makeup addicts are a misunderstood folk!!!

    • Isabella Muse

psssfffttt Cora! You paid $50 for that eyeliner? Bet you look fabulous in it hehe! Yes we understand the makeup geekery 🙂

  • Zovesta

I would have more money if I wasn’t, and I do feel a little guilty about it… a waste of money, a waste of space… and what am I going to do with it all?! =P

Oh well. It makes me happy, and as long as I can keep a hold on it!

  • Katherine T.

Well, my wallet would be a lot fatter, but life would be a lot less fun. Yeah, I have way too much makeup already, but I just love buying makeup, playing with it, reading blogs, etc But it makes me very happy, and as long as I can afford it, why not? Life is too short

I sometimes wish I wasn’t a makeup addict. I have a wide variety of interests and the amount of money I spend on beauty a year can go toward experiences like vacations, savings, or even lessons/classes. I’m trying to cut back and be more about moderation but it’s hard. I sometimes feel like I’m a slave to my makeup desires. BUT, the process of applying makeup makes me happy so it’s just trade-off’s you know?

    • Isabella Muse

I so feel the slave to my makeup addiction sometimes! can relate! 🙂

This post couldn’t be more timely! My husband just found out today he’s being laid off and I’m still sitting here browsing Pinterest adding to my makeup wishlists and feeling guilty as all hell. I know looking (or online window shopping!) and dreaming isn’t costing me anything, and I tend to buy drugstore mostly, but I wish my makeup addiction could wax and wane a bit! I keep telling myself my collection is nowhere near hoarding status and there’s a good possibility he’ll find another job long before his severance runs out, but when you consider how makeup is so unimportant compared to the big issues in life, I worry I’m being shallow. But I do so love makeup…it’s become my artistic passion and its fun and makes me happy. When I’m depressed and don’t want to get out of bed and face the world, the thought that gets me going sometimes is “but think of the makeup look you’re gonna rock today”. So I’m going to slow down, rediscover old favorites in my existing stash, wait until I run out before buying another foundation or powder or blush, and not feel too bad if I grab a 99 Wet N Wild lipstick once in a while as a pick me up.

Hell to the yes. The addiction is so bad that my 5yr old daughter enters Sephora with me and tells me “mommy no more makup, don’t you think you have enough”? The struggle is real lol. But it makes me happy. So what he heck. The addiction could have been way worse. Sometimes I look at everything I have an it gets a tad overwhelming to the point where I have given so much stuff away to my best friend in Greece.

Ahh. I would complain about the amount I spend on makeup…but it’s just my thing. I was a smoker for ages. One day it dawned on me that I could buy double the makeup if I set aside money I would have spent on cigarettes. I’ll justify it by saying makeup is helping me to live longer. 😉

  • Crystal

I am an addict but I don’t want to collect them. They just collect themselves! LOL! Seriously though, I buy stuff to be able to try them, but then I tell myself that on every makeup purchase. And then I don’t really put on a lot of makeup everyday. I am just trying to enjoy it while I can, but at some point I think I would have to slow down. Sad but true!

  • Michelle Flamingo

I am not a makeup addict. I am glad I am not addicted to makeup for all the reasons people have written above. I do own too much makeup, and that alone bothers me due to the space it takes up. I do have the space for it, but I’d rather have empty space than things taking up space. 🙂

  • devon

i find myself running into the ‘so many clothes but nothing to wear’ problem with my makeup. i have TONS of stuff. but i can sit there and not want to use any of the foundations, can’t find the right lip, not sure which mascara…so…i buy…a new one! i’ve limited myself to 1 palette/month. it’s gotten that bad.

  • Dawn R

I am a makeup addict and I proudly admit it. My problem is that I’m also a handbag and shoe addict. I either need a bigger house or less addictions. Haha!!! I think the love of makeup is just a manifestation of the love of beauty and color and art and nature. We want to be walking/talking objets d’art. There can’t be anything wrong with that. 🙂 I love your blog!

    • Isabella Muse

sneaker addict here Dawn! Also like high end bags eep! 😀 aw thanks chica! xoxoxo!

  • Jan M

Total makeup addict here! I Check blogs and You Tube videos daily for reviews and new collections. I am also a card maker and scrapbooker. I just like pretty stuff. I like lots of pretty stuff. I don’t collect makeup, I use everything I get at least a handful of times. My heart races when I get near a Mac, Ulta, CCO or Sephora. We don’t have any closer to us. They are all an hour drive. My addiction is real! 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

haha Jan you sound like me! Not a scrapbooker but obsessed with stationary and cute stuff 🙂

  • Penny

My obsession/addiction definitely started within the last few years. I was a one brand woman…I discovered Bare Minerals and was extremely happy with it, especially the Ready Line! I would watch the Bare Minerals shows on QVC and be in makeup heaven…then I discovered how many more things QVC has besides makeup and I really started getting into watching the Q…then of course I discovered other makeup brands on the Q and one thing led to another and before you know it not only am I addicted to all kinds of brands of makeup, but now I am also addicted to watching the Q!!! Yikes!! 🙂

  • Lindsey

As much as I’d hate to admit, but yes I am addicted to makeup. The sad thing is, I do not use nearly as much as I buy. Like everyone else, my wallet would be fatter. I really enjoy reading about makeup, watching Youtube videos, doing research, and I enjoy the packaging. I am proud of myself from walking away from a blush the other day. I said, “No Lindsey! You already have a draw full of blushes!”

  • Pamela

I am the SAME with every single thing the Muse said! I just told my husband today that I’m addicted to very special pens (writing pens) and makeup. He just laughed, thank God.

I don’t know if I posted this on here before, but one time he opened the fridge and said..”There is more makeup in here than food!”

True, we don’t eat in much. That’s my husband’s way of treating me and I feel so very lucky.

  • Genevieve

I’ve always been a big makeup fan, but in the last few years I’ve become a bit of a makeup addict. I’ve always had a ton of lipsticks, but now I have a ton of eye shadow palettes – which are my downfall. Lucky I am not a fan of mattes or neutrals, otherwise I would have lots more. This is one of my hobbies and I don’t regret it for a moment as I have always tried to purchase wisely – those palettes that have received excellent ratings and reviews from blogs like these or Temptalia. However I still have a lot of them. Now I am looking for a good blush palette……..The fun is sometimes in the search.

  • Cindy

Definitly not an addict, although I did checked some boxes. I think make up is to use and not just to collect or gather dust. That is my way of keeping my collection small. This way I can spend more on less products. Or buy a full collection without hesitation if it is really outstanding.

Except for the complete Rocky Horror collection (so much red lipsticks) I have no doubles. I only have the best things out there. It’s the best quality or the most luxe packaging. I don’t have, I don’t want and I don’t need a gazilllion of something. I’m just a holy grail kinda gal.

  • Iris

I am trying to cut back, only getting items I really want. I felt I’ve impulse purchased too much and can’t keep track of my collection. It’s also a bit of a down feeling when I can’t find a sought after item. I’m still trying to find Maybelline’s Coral Cocktail for a decent price. It seems the stores which seal them do not have the collection in anymore. Sad as it was put out in stores only last month. 🙁

Today was a hard day, well the last couple. My boyfriend never says “no” I get a rush from buying makeup/hair stuff anything beauty related. Oh and if it’s LE it’s ON. Ive spend 500 or more this past week.. My excuse is “I AM A MUA” (but still) and beauty vlogger so im like yeah let’s buy every high end thing that’s new show it to my viewers because only THEY understand the need the feel for makeup… just watching a haul can be satisfying but sometimes will make you itch to get the newest and best thing out and then rave it on YT. Blowing a frenzy you see YOU created, and thats why everything is sold out just because I hauled it or another YT, blogger ect. so we are guilty into making more addicts. BUT HEY better than drugs, it’s a fun hobby and you gotta catch em all 🙂 I’m ok with eating ramen! :)) GREAT ARTICLE BTW xo

    • Isabella Muse

haha indeed we do enable others don’t we!? But I love sharing my passion for makeup and beauty with everyone and it’s such a great way to meet people that feel the same way about it 😀 Haha please don’t spend so much you have to eat ramen! Just remind yourself, “Do I really need it? Or do I really want it?” that might help you decide to splurge or not next purchase 😀
