Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss ($4.49 each, Buy 1, Get 1 50% off at Ulta.com) are a new non sticky moisturizing lipgloss formulated with “caring oils” that hydrate, smooth, and soften lips for up to four hours that’s available in three different finishes.

Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss joins the Baby Lips family permanently for Fall 2015 and are available and popping up in drugstores now. Thus far we have Baby Lips Lip Balm, Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer, and now Baby Lips Lipgloss so I imagine we’ll see some sort of cheek or blush product in the works shortly as well!

Like many of you I keep lip balms stashed all over the place. In my desk drawer, in my makeup bag, on my vanity, etc…! But Baby Lips Lip Balm has never been a formula I’ve loved although I will say some of the limited edition shades that have launched have made an impression on me! I wasn’t sure what I would think about Maybelline Baby Lips Lipgloss but I went into this review with reservations.

Take a look!

Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss

You’re either really going love these or just really dislike them. I happen to fall into the dislike category. Sorry makeup world, Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss just didn’t do it for me.

Maybelline did up this collection right with a selection of 12 different shades in shimmer, cream, and jelly finishes. Good on them! Variety is key at capturing the attention of makeup lovers and who doesn’t like a budget friendly gloss in a variety of shades for under five bucks yes (at a generous size of 0.18 oz)?

If you must have might I suggest starting with the jelly finishes? I thought they were the most likely in terms of finish and wear. There are four different jelly finish shades to choose from each has a plush finish with a thin yet not watery texture. They are lightweight, not sticky, and have a very nice shiny finish with a wear of around two hours on my lips. During the wear they feel pleasantly moist and comfortable however, I wouldn’t say they leave my lips feeling soft after the wear nor would I say there is up to four hours of moisture here. The formula provides lightweight moisture at best but nothing as dramatic as the claims of four hours. The colors are sheer so don’t run out and buy everyone single color available because in the end most of them look the same on lips in my experience.

As I said, I thought the jellies were the nicest. They have a gel-like consistency that’s quite shiny and lovely on my lips. They do have a perfume-y floral fruity taste going on that is pretty strong so if you’re sensitive beware. I think that fragrance and flavor might potentially be a deal breaker for many as it isn’t exactly the most pleasant taste in the world. To me it’s part fruit, part sweet gum, and part perfume.

Now I didn’t love the shimmers or the creams. The creams don’t apply as nicely as the jellies and they kinda fall into my natural lip lines and the shades are terribly unflattering on my skin tone so it’s a bad case of zombie lips all around. Not a good look! The texture isn’t as shiny as the jellies either nor did it feel as moisturizing to me.

I didn’t really love the shimmer shade I got either and again, I’m repeating myself here, I really do think the jellies is where this formula excels best. The shimmer finish is very subtle and isn’t as shiny looking as the jelly one. It doesn’t suffer with the poor formula the creams have though and spreads and applies easily onto lips leaving very light moisture and shimmer behind with very sheer, sheer color payoff.

I find the whole Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss thing a disappointment if I’m being honest. Do I really need another sheer gloss? Especially a mediocre clear gloss? Honestly, if you want an awesome, sheer lipgloss the CK On Summer Lipglosses are awesome! Yes, they are $15 each but hey, you’re putting nearly $5 into the pot anyway so for ten more bucks at least you can get a super shiny lipgloss with a gorgeous texture.

For me, Maybelline Baby Lips Lipgloss has so much potential. Granted, these aren’t really marketed as a full on lipgloss and I didn’t expect a ton of color from them but I think the formula could be improved upon to include a little more color, perhaps a better flavor or even no flavor, and considering they promise moisture, a little more of it wouldn’t hurt!

These are just meh for me. I understand they are marketing them as a moisturizing lipgloss and that’s the case at least deliver the moisture if nothing else.

Oh well!

I’m sure Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss will prove a hit with Baby Lips Lip Balm fans for me they just didn’t cut it.

You can grab Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss now at drugstores or at Ulta.com.

The two I got were kind of meh for me too. I got the Taupe and the Fuchsia ones.

    • Isabella Muse

same here…! They are just a mediocre gloss and I didn’t expect bells or whistles but at least moisture which is how they are promoting them, that I expected at the very least!

  • Lori

From what I’ve seen of them, I had a feeling this would be the case. Maybe I’ll get one for my 10 year-old, LOL.

    • Isabella Muse

actually, don’t laugh, but that feels more where the demographic lays, tweens! 😀

  • Heidi

I wasn’t too excited about these when I’d heard about them, because I’d have bet good money they didn’t have much pigment. Your review just confirms it. I’ve never been wild about glosses, and this doesn’t look like it’ll convert me.

    • Isabella Muse

Yeah, they just aren’t all that great a gloss, Heidi! :-/

  • Morgane

Muse, do the shimmer ones leave glitter all over your lips after the gloss wears off?

    • Isabella Muse

I only tried on shimmer and it did leave a LITTLE residue behind, Morgane!

  • Katherine T.

I tried the BabyLips Lip Balm and couldn’t figure out what the fuss was about — it left this slick silicone on my lips and wasn’t moisturizing. And why come out with 12 shades of gloss when they are mostly clear and look the same on the lips?? Too bad Maybelline’s glosses aren’t as good as their lippies

  • Audra

When you purchased yours did they have a protective seal around them. I received four today from Ulta.com and none of them have any type of protective seal or packaging…that kinda creeps me out…it would be even worse if they are sold in the store that way.

    • Isabella Muse

Nope so I was kinda happy I go them from Ulta.com at least I know no one used them!

    • Melissa

Right? I bought two and then realized when it t home.. I got them from Target, irk if I want to use them!! =/

  • Rachel R.

I don’t know why companies will have a bazillion “different” shades that all look exactly the same on the lips. The Baby Lips balms have more pigment than these, so I’ll stick with those.

  • Ashley

These look horrible. How can they make it to production when the formulation sucks. Why bother producing a half a$$ed product.

  • Jay

These glosses are foolish lol. And I feel like a damn fool for buying a tiny, overpriced clear gloss that lasts 45 minutes!

  • Morgane

I agree these are a joke! I bought the fuschia and the berry ones and both looked like a clear gloss on me, plus they are not long lasting at all. Pretty sure these are marketed for teenagers/pre teens.

  • Nat

These aren’t out in the UK yet and probably won’t be for ages, but I was so excited for these… Even though they seem really disappointing. 🙁

    Gutted.

  • Tiffany

I LOVE the Baby Lips Balm, and I just saw these lip glosses in the store a few days ago. I was wondering whether or not they’d be any good, but I’m glad I waited. Not sure if this new product is worth it, or if they should have just stuck with the balm!

  • Mary

You are my go-to person when it comes to lipgloss reviews. We have similar tastes. I almost bought one of these the other day, and I am glad I didnt after reading this. Thank you!

  • Kathleen Jennings

I just bought 3 at the CVS and I wish I had read your review first! They are all completely CLEAR! Very annoying. The Tickled Pink looked like it had pigment and would be a good dupe for MAC lip glass in St. Germain, but it is completely clear 🙁 I think the NYX Butter Glosses are a much better bet because they have moisture AND color payoff! You have a great blog, keep it up. xoxo,

    • Isabella Muse

I’m so sorry Kathleen 🙁 They aren’t very pigmented sadly sigh! Thanks so glad you enjoy Musings of a Muse 🙂

I just bought one yesterday and came to use it today when I too realized there’s no seal of any kind on it. Disgusting. It’s going back tomorrow. I know Maybelline in only a drugstore brand, but sheesh, come on. No seal in this day and age??
