Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick1

Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick ($22) is a new matte version of Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick that will be available July 8th in 11 permanent shades. Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick is an Urban Decay Fall 2015 and although we’ve already seen these new lippies plus the new Urban Decay Smoky Eyeshadow Palette I have a feeling there’s still yet more to be had from UD for the upcoming season!

Let’s take a peek!

The Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick family now has three formulation variations starting with the original, the sheer, and now the matte finishes. Something to take note of is the packaging…! Urban Decay was clever enough to package each finish in a different color barrel. Sheer Revolution comes housed in a smoky gray packaging, the original formula comes in a purple barrel, and now the newest matte finish is housed in a black packaging.

This finish couldn’t arrive at a better time as it seems the three top makeup and beauty trends for Fall 2015 might just be matte lips, a contoured, sculpted face, and metallic eyeshadows. Even though matte lipstick is as traditional as PB&J sandwiches I’ve never been a huge fan of the finish. For me I commonly associate matte lips with dryness but over the years I have found formulas that work and I do believe formulas have evolved and become much better formulated. I’m prone to drier lips so matte lipstick tends to settle into my natural lip lines and flaky, dry areas are typically accentuated when I apply heavier color to them.

Now, Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick is no lightweight. These are considerably heavier in texture when compared to the original formula. They have a “How you doing!?” texture that makes itself know on lips but thankfully not in an uncomfortable way. The formula is quite buttery but initially I noticed the first two or three swipes tugged a little bit. I feel like the lipstick is a little dense at first but after a few uses I found the formula breaks down and becomes much more buttery which results in way better application. After that initial harder tip wears away you’ll find the texture under it creamy and buttery with a smooth, even glide on lips. Needless to say color is excellent with full coverage on the first layer but what more could we expect from Urban
Decay right? I detected no flavor or fragrance in this formula.

The color wears very strongly. Not only does it apply smooth and even but it remains smooth and even through the wear and never breaks away or flakes up on lips. Color lays well on my lips without falling into my natural lip lines. The only color I had severe issues with was Blackmail which is an intense blackened grape. This color migrates, moves, and feathers every which way from Sunday. It’s also a pain to apply directly from the tube so you’ll want to grab up a lip brush to use with this one and bring along some liner too as it likes to creep…EVERYWHERE! Now the formulas on all the shades was very, very slightly dry but I didn’t feel like it sucked moisture from my lips or added dryness to them during the wear. I got a good five hours out of many of the shades where as others like Bad Blood stuck around for a solid six. Some shades do leave a staining effect behind as they wear away.

All in all Urban Decay has created another great Revolution Lipstick formula and finish. If you’re embracing mattes for your Fall 2015 looks I’m positive you’re going to love on the Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks.

Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick arrives tomorrow, July 8th at UrbanDecay.com and will be available August 8th at Sephora.com, Ulta.com, and Macys.com.

I think your last lip swatch may have been of “After Dark” instead of “1993”, unless it really turns that purple-y on you.

Love these swatches. They look extremely creamy and wearable!!

Love afterdark , bad bloed and 1993 on you are the most flattering colors but I dont see matte on them

  • Cindy

Menace, Tilt, and Bittersweet look FANTASTIC on you!! But I’m partial to brights, LOL! Can’t wait to get my hands on these . . .

I had similar issues with Blackmail. Love the color but definitely tricky to work with!

    • Isabella Muse

very very tricky! I applied from the tube, as you can see, total hot mess! 😀

  • Jay

The color selection is a bit lackluster. I find all of their lipsticks heavy too! Even the sheer revolution doesn’t feel *good* until I drag it across my lips and let it settle. Awesome swatches Muse!

you know Jay, I agree! I thought the colors didn’t quite grab me! I liked Bad Blood but the others, mmmm…wasn’t so into them! They are heavy though, you got that right my dear! You’re very welcome 🙂

Wow, 1993 definitely brings back some nostalgic memories! Definitely not a matte, but that’s ok

I am a huge fan of the previous Revolution lipsticks, both the original and sheer formulas. Rush is my favorite of all time. I will definitely be getting a few of these. These look so great on you!! Particularly Stark Naked, Bad Blood and After Dark. We have similar coloring so I can usually tell from your perfect swatch photos what I’ll love. Thanks for that and everything you review for all of us! (Although my wallet doesn’t thank you…., LOL). ❤️❤️
