E.L.F. Studio Gotta Glow Lip Tint

E.L.F. Studio Gotta Glow Lip Tint ($6) is one of those lip tints you’re going to really love or really hate. E.L.F. Studio Gotta Glow Lip Tint is formulated to react with the chemistry of your lips to create a personalized shade of pink. I know, I know, you’re likely not buying into that after all these years of brands telling you about your “perfect shade of pink”.

There’s Tarte LipSurgence Skintuitive Lip Tint, Diorglow Dior Addict Lip Glow, Catrice Tinted Lip Glow Balm, and the list goes on and on and on. Most of these color changing lip tint treatments aren’t a universally flatter shade but more of a bubblegum pink no matter your skin tone or body chemistry. But none the less many of flock towards them like seagulls. And it is understandable as we somehow desire just a quickie way to get some color on our lips and go. At least that’s the case for me as I’m kinda sorta lazy about retouching up with lipstick or gloss but give me a quick lip tint or balm I can tuck into my desk drawer and I can easily swipe it on for a little color.

I think it deserves to be mentioned E.L.F.’s prices have gone up dramatically lately. Gotta Glow Lip Tint is six dollars which is quite high for E.L.F. Studio line of products that typically range in the $3 zone.

Whether or not you’re comfortable with where E.L.F.’s pricing is up for debate but personally considering the packaging and formula is a vast improvement on some of E.L.F.’s cheaper offerings I can’t say I mind paying a little more and getting something a little better in quality.

This comes housed in a rather slick little mirrored barrel with a clear top. I never got a cheap vibe from it! The packaging is rather cool looking and doesn’t even look like something I purchased from E.L.F.

On the upside this formula is pretty great. It’s slick, it feels lightly hydrating on my lips, and it’s a joy to apply. I have a lot of tinted lip balms like this and all of them look the same on my lips in most cases but the formulas does vary from product to product. I must say I like this formula best! It even beats out Dior’s Addict Lip Glow, which I love, as it is so light and slick! It kinda just melts across my lips as I apply it.

Unfortunately, on the downside, it wears a shorter time than many other formulas due to that slickness. Where as Dior will leave my lips tinted pink for a few hours, E.L.F.’s formula wears away within 90 or so minutes. I love the texture and consistency but that also works against it as it melts easily so traveling with it causes issues. I ordered two of these and one arrived snapped from the base as I guess it was too hot during shipment. The second one survived but I put it in my makeup bag and carried it around for the day and again, it snapped off the base. It just melts very easily which causes breakage issues. You can reset it by placing it in the freezer for an hour or so if that’s any help!

Now the color swatches fairly sheer but on lips it applies with a pretty shade of pink! I would classify it as a bubblegum pink but I still think it looks quite flattering on my lips so I’m not complaining.

Long story short, E.L.F. Studio Gotta Glow Lip Tint is quite great but the breakage issues and very melty formula might mean you’ll have to stick buying and traveling with it in the cooler weather. Avoid this one if you live in a warm environment as it will sadly melt!

Own it already?

I just placed an e.l.f. order, LOL! However, I skipped right past this one, as it didn’t sound so great… A part of me regrets it, because I am a “balm girl”, but the melting issues make me glad. If it were $3, I probably would have grabbed one, though… I’m in SoCal, and we’re experiencing a heatwave, so melting would be a huge problem.

By the way, e.l.f. is doing free shipping on all orders, for a limited time!

thanks Amy! I wanted to order but hated to pay shipping now I have an excuse. Good idea, it’s been 90’s here in NY the last several days and makeup is NOT shipping nicely 🙂 So def a sound idea not to order! I was disappointed how melty this was! Liked the texture but hated it snapped apart in my bag 🙁

I just got this the other day and I really like it too. So far I haven’t had any issues with melting or breaking, so hopefully I won’t have to deal with that. I think that on my lips it looks a little darker and more magenta, but that may have to do with my lips being pretty pigmented.

This one is definitely staying in my purse for the foreseeable future!

Thank goodness you didn’t have breakage probs. It’s pretty hot here so I guess that’s the prob for me! But I really like the consistency, it’s so slick and feels great on 😀 glad you love it too!

I’ll probably go ahead and grab it if I find it in a store, but I’ll plan to depot it into a jar, or something. I’m a big fan of just a hint of color, and I always have to have something on my lips.

Ugh! I ALWAYS have problems with elf lipstick type products snapping off at the base. Every lipstick ive had from them has done it and its so upsetting!!! Maybe I just have bad luck..but ive stopped buying lipsticks from them after the first 4 or 5 snapped off just after a few uses. Its not like im pushing really hard on them or anything either, I never have this problem with any other brand!!

I noticed the price increase too.. they think they slick, getting too big for their britches! My main issue with ordering online is that their products are so cheap it feels like a waste to return something, but if it’s not worth it than you still waste money. It’s cute that they tried to dupe more expensive products but meh. I’ve gotta try that Dior!

    • Isabella Muse

Mmmm, they are still budget friendly but yes, not really what we are used to from E.L.F. I find their products a hit or a miss. Sometimes you get solid gold, other times it is a waste 🙁

Hello, nice lip balm, but why you look the same in every review, do you use that head band daily in every different colors and we cant see your make up as it seem like you are never wearing none. You strike the same pose in every picture. I love the way you write but not the way you show off makeup.

    Sorry, just my thoughts.

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Alma thanks for your comment! Sorry you dislike my photos but glad you enjoy my reviews! I just try to be as consistent as possible in my photos, I’m not a fashion model 🙂 this isn’t a fashion shoot so I tend to stick to the same pose with my reviews just to keep things consistent. If I was being more candid I’d probably do a different pose but since I’m reviewing a product I just keep it pretty basic. I like to keep my hair out of my eyes as it’s quite long and wavy so the head band works great when I’m at work as I can stick my hair in a bun and slick it back to keep it from my eyes, face, and mouth!

      • TrailerTrashPrincess

FWIW, i *like* that you have the same pose & expression & headband-thing going on in your reviews!
it makes it easier to focus on the-thing-you’re-reviewing rather than wondering if your haircolour is different, or where you took the photo, etc etc etc.

you’re one of the few bloggers i’ve seen that’s so consistent with the photos, and i for one appreciate it.

        • Isabella Muse

aw thanks Trailer Trash Princess! Happy to hear that! 🙂 xoxo! I try! I’m not the best photographer in the world nor am I the most photogenic person but I try to keep the photos consistent and on point as best I can 🙂 Appreciate the lovely comment!

    • Lori Merrifield

Those who review makeup generally do this. Christine of Temptalia looks the same in every photo. The point is consistency. We shld be concentrating on the makeup, not her hair, or clothes, or jewelry.

In the hot months (Its hot outside in Alabama rn!!) i kept mine in the fridge. Sounds dumb, but I have a 2 story house and I hate going upstairs because i always forget my lipstick, so it just kinda belongs there, and my other lipsticks have migrated to that area now, lol. I wouldn’t pay 6 bucks for it, but it was a bday present, and i think it is pretty nice. Its lasted a while now, too.

I have used Gotta Glow Perfect Pink for years. I use it as eyeshadow, cheek tint and lipstick and NOW I find out it’s discontinued? I think I have about 5 half tubes around. Ugh! It’s literally all I use ‼️
