E.L.F. Studio Gotta Glow Lip Tint Review & Swatches
E.L.F. Studio Gotta Glow Lip Tint ($6) is one of those lip tints you’re going to really love or really hate. E.L.F. Studio Gotta Glow Lip Tint is formulated to react with the chemistry of your lips to create a personalized shade of pink. I know, I know, you’re likely not buying into that after all these years of brands telling you about your “perfect shade of pink”.
There’s Tarte LipSurgence Skintuitive Lip Tint, Diorglow Dior Addict Lip Glow, Catrice Tinted Lip Glow Balm, and the list goes on and on and on. Most of these color changing lip tint treatments aren’t a universally flatter shade but more of a bubblegum pink no matter your skin tone or body chemistry. But none the less many of flock towards them like seagulls. And it is understandable as we somehow desire just a quickie way to get some color on our lips and go. At least that’s the case for me as I’m kinda sorta lazy about retouching up with lipstick or gloss but give me a quick lip tint or balm I can tuck into my desk drawer and I can easily swipe it on for a little color.
I think it deserves to be mentioned E.L.F.’s prices have gone up dramatically lately. Gotta Glow Lip Tint is six dollars which is quite high for E.L.F. Studio line of products that typically range in the $3 zone.
Whether or not you’re comfortable with where E.L.F.’s pricing is up for debate but personally considering the packaging and formula is a vast improvement on some of E.L.F.’s cheaper offerings I can’t say I mind paying a little more and getting something a little better in quality.
This comes housed in a rather slick little mirrored barrel with a clear top. I never got a cheap vibe from it! The packaging is rather cool looking and doesn’t even look like something I purchased from E.L.F.
On the upside this formula is pretty great. It’s slick, it feels lightly hydrating on my lips, and it’s a joy to apply. I have a lot of tinted lip balms like this and all of them look the same on my lips in most cases but the formulas does vary from product to product. I must say I like this formula best! It even beats out Dior’s Addict Lip Glow, which I love, as it is so light and slick! It kinda just melts across my lips as I apply it.
Unfortunately, on the downside, it wears a shorter time than many other formulas due to that slickness. Where as Dior will leave my lips tinted pink for a few hours, E.L.F.’s formula wears away within 90 or so minutes. I love the texture and consistency but that also works against it as it melts easily so traveling with it causes issues. I ordered two of these and one arrived snapped from the base as I guess it was too hot during shipment. The second one survived but I put it in my makeup bag and carried it around for the day and again, it snapped off the base. It just melts very easily which causes breakage issues. You can reset it by placing it in the freezer for an hour or so if that’s any help!
Now the color swatches fairly sheer but on lips it applies with a pretty shade of pink! I would classify it as a bubblegum pink but I still think it looks quite flattering on my lips so I’m not complaining.
Long story short, E.L.F. Studio Gotta Glow Lip Tint is quite great but the breakage issues and very melty formula might mean you’ll have to stick buying and traveling with it in the cooler weather. Avoid this one if you live in a warm environment as it will sadly melt!
