Tarte Greatest Glitz Collector's Set3

The Tarte Greatest Glitz Collector’s Set & Portable Palettes ($49) is a new, limited edition Holiday set that launched with the Tarte Holiday 2015 Collection that’s available exclusively at Ulta.

Tarte does several very large palettes and gift sets everything year for the Holidays and they are always, in my opinion, an excellent value for your buck. This year the Tarte Greatest Glitz Collector’s Set & Portable Palettes is a little different from prior years If you recall the Tarte Away Oui Go Portable Palette & Collectors Set from Tarte Holiday 2014 and the Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Portable Palette Set from Tarte Holiday 2013 all had removable quads which could be housed in a single portable palette that you could tote around with you or travel with while leaving behind the rest of the items in the set.

This year the Great Glitz Collector’s Set & Portable Palettes are more packaged more like the Too Faced Le Belle Carousel Set which features removable travel friendly palettes. Yes, you do in fact get a big (and perhaps you might consider it bulky) jewelry box with a pull out drawer and a flip top lid but inside you’ll get three different removable (and smaller) eye and cheek palettes!

As you can see the palette comes in a gold sparkly jewelry box. The top lid of the box has little multicolored sequins in a smoky gray, rose gold, and gold (which happen to match the theme of the eyeshadows in the box). The box is actually not very deep as the drawer takes up the most space so you won’t be able to store larger makeup in it after the palettes are removed. But it will make either a nice jewelry box, letter box, or it’s nice for store lipglosses and lipsticks.

The palette pays home to a total of 24 new eyeshadows shades and 3 exclusive blushes plus you get deluxe sizes of Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara and Deluxe Lipsurgence Lip Creme in Flashy which are both stores in the pull out drawer located at the bottom of the jewelry box.

On the top layer of the palette you’ll find three removable rectangle palettes (I placed the small Lipsurgence by the palette so you can get a feel for its size below) each of which holds 8 eyeshadows and one blush (the names of the eyeshadow and blush are printed under each shade on the palette). Each palette has a certain color scheme that matches its outer color packaging. For example, the rose gold palette has rose gold shades of eyeshadow where as the gold palette features golds and browns, and so on and so fourth. Each of the eyeshadows is 0.024 oz in size and the blushes are 0.155 oz in size.

I think the main worry about these sets and palettes is that many fans are worried about running into reruns or duplicate shades. I wouldn’t say, particularly in the case of the blushes, there are any spot on duplicates here but there are shades very, very similar which can be found in a range of Tarte palettes. Sadly, if you are a Tarte fan and you have a wide variety of Tarte palettes you’ve purchased you these shades could feel like a rehash. I didn’t particular mind very much though as I felt they were grouped into such a nice arrangement and I didn’t have to hunt around and look for shades to pair up together as the shades are grouped into a nice little set and I can just grab a palette, create a look, and go. I used some of the rose gold shades in my look below. I really love they included rose gold shades as I feel like the trend went by too quickly when it was a little hot earlier this Spring and Summer! I was personally one of those people that loved the shades in the Maybelline the Blushed Nudes Palette so these shades were really lovely for me!

The eyeshadows are soft, silky, and some have a velvety texture as well with a range of mattes, metallics, shimmers, and satins. I’d say the formula was consistent throughout a majority of the colors but some of the darker mattes shades (as you can see in my swatches) were a bit patchy and dry.

I thought the blushes were particularly lovely in this set. These did not feel like duplicate shades at all. There’s a very nice the Balm Frat Boy shade dupe here but the shade seems a touch more deeper raspberry in comparison. I think these are formulated considerably different than your typical Amazonian Clay Blush. The formula is a bit more powdery in comparison but the colors are still rich in pigment and they apply very well with excellent length of wear at around eight to ten hours.

As I mentioned above this set also includes a LipSurgence Lip Creme in Flashy which is a nice warm pink (0.056 oz). This shade has a cream finish with a cool minty flavor and fragrance. And finally you do get a Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara which is 0.13 oz in size. I won’t go into a deep review on either of these items as I’ve reviewed them many, many times in the past so check my archives to for reviews. I will say that I use Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara daily as it is a staple mascara for me as it gives great length and fullness to lashes!

I personally thought the Tarte Greatest Glitz Collector’s Set & Portable Palettes was a very nice set. There’s a few miss eyeshadows in here but for the most part the quality was consistent across the board with plenty of pigment and an excellent formulation on both the blushes and eyeshadows. The set offers a nice range of colors and I like the way the palettes are broken down into three different looks of rose gold, smoky, and a natural gold or brown eye look. I also really enjoyed the blushes in the set.

Whether or not you need it would be a personal choice and decision. Personally I think it is a great set with some wonderful shades however, as a Tarte fan girl I can see it being a little bit of a rehash from seasons past!

But it should would make a lovely gift for someone who doesn’t have a ton of Tarte or who is just now experiencing the joys of the brand!

Do you think you’ll be indulging?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Wow, those colors look gorgeous on you. Your eyes are making me want this palette even more than I already do! I’m a huge tarte fan and this palette is gorgeous. Seems like a good value, too. I’m just worried about finding room on my vanity! Will you be reviewing tarte’s other new holiday eye palettes?

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks! I kinda messed up the blending today! but thank you! 😀 I will indeed! I’ll have those up next week! I hear you! My vanity is stuffed! I purchased a small drawer unit from rubbermaid that I put in my closet 🙂

  • Rebekah

The initial picture on Ulta was kind of confusing, but now I see that each individual palette has a cover built in and that is awesome. I feel like this is more convenient than the set that Sephora has this year.

    • Isabella Muse

agreed, I also thought they were giving us a separate palette so you can pop the shade in and out but this way is much nicer!

      • Helena

Besides this set and the Sephora one, there’s a third set on the tarte website which has one of those separate paletes to pop in and out the shades, just like last year set 🙂

        Kisses from Portugal 😀

  • Dee

Unfortunately for my wallet I will indulge. The price is excellent for what is included. I shouldn’t have looked at your swatches! How great for travel is this!?

  • Jenn

I was wondering about this set, and your review has left me wanting it, haha. As always another great review and swatches! Thanks for all the research and reporting that you do for us. 🙂

Girl I love getting your emails b/c you Always have the Best Stuff to show me and I Love Reading your posts, as Opposed to some of my emails where I just skin through to get to the good stuff (lol!) I Love Anything Sparkly, Shimmery, Glittery, or Sequiney (I made that last one up) I Also am a Big Fan of the More Colorful Makeup, like the New UD Spectrum Palette & the other one you posted from Kat Von D! Those are My kind of Palettes! Sadly the Spectrum Palette isn’t Available Unless you are a VIP or Whatever they call it and the Kat Von D was Sold Out but it also had Mixed Reviews! Those are the Kind of Palettes I Like but I Do Sometimes wear Neutrals (if they are Shimmery, lol!) Anyways I was intending to say that I LOVE this Adorable Sequined Packaging but I Wish they had a More Colorful Version but I Do Love those Blushes, Especially Warm Hearted & Bubbly! Anyways Sorry for Talking your ear off & for the Capital Letter Over Load my Tablet does that for some reason and I am Not Good with technology so I will leave it Alone! So I will wrap it up, I love your blog, we have similar taste I think, you have introduced me to so many New things, and You are Awesome! Have a Blessed Day, thanks.., Jana

    • Isabella Muse

aw Jana thanks your comment made my Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 Please by all means chat away! I love reading comments like yours 🙂 I hear you on the shimmer! I, too, love me some shimmer 🙂 Don’t worry there’s plenty of palettes to come and many choices for the Holidays so even if you didn’t get your hands on the Spectrum, there’s plenty more that will be coming! Thanks again for your truly awesome palette xoxoxoxo!

      • Jana Williams

Thanks Sweetie and I Will Definitely be on the Lookout for Colorful or Shimmery Palettes! It’s Odd b/c Sometimes Months Can Go by and I Will Not See Anything that I am Necessarily Crazy About but Right Now I Have Been Seeing a Ton of Things I Want Coming Out for Christmas Like the Smashbox Palette Created by that Artist (Can’t Remember His Name Right Now) but He Came Out with a Whole Smashbox Collection! I also Love the Too Faced Stardust Palette, the Urban Decay Spectrum (of course) & Vice 4, and the Kat Von D Palette, and a Billion Other Ones! Lol, Guess that’s How it Goes… All or Nothing! Anyways, Thanks Again for Your Awesome Posts; I Really Do Enjoy Reading “Yours!” Don’t Get Me Wrong, There are Some Other Bloggers that I Like Too but Some I Never Know What I am Going to Get! Lol Anyways Take Care My Love and I Hope You are Not Having a Manic Monday (I Love the Bangles, lol!) Take Care, Jana

        • Isabella Muse

My pleasure! XOXO 🙂 I think it’s always like that around the Holidays, you just get that “I want it all” feeling haha 🙂 Awww my pleasure! That means SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much to me Jana 🙂 thank you! haha it is a manic monday but I’m coping hehe hope yours is less stressful than mine hugs!

  • Alexandra Robertson

I’m pretty disappointed with the packaging this year. I always get the Tarte deals, whether it’s from QVC or holiday bundles. But this year’s packaging looks rather unexciting compared to previous years. I’m kind of sad lol

  • Amanda

There’s so many holiday palettes, I can’t decide which one to get! Which is your favorite so far?

I love your site by the way, anytime I am wondering whether or not to get a product it’s always on your site with a deep description and swatches! 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

tell me about it Amanda 🙂 It’s still Fall and Holiday is thrust upon on us hard. Probably the Guerlain Palette, it looks a lot like a palette they already did but I still love it ;-D Aww thank you! happy to hear you like Musings of a Muse 🙂 that makes my day hearing that!

  • jules

I like this one more than Sephora’s. I keep liking the rose gold look on others, but keep feeling too rosy shine on myself.

  • Sara

Wow! Out of all the Holiday collections you have posted, this is the first one that I am actually excited about and like the looks of the entire set. Maybe the first and only set I purchase for holiday.

  • Zovesta

OMG, Muse! Your swatches are /always/ the ones I rely on when trying to decide if I should buy something or not, and you definitely sold me on this one! Time to use every coupon/gift card I can combine… what brush did you use for these swatches? Or primer?

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks so flattered to hear that 🙂 I just use sponge eyeshadow applicators to swatch eyeshadows. I don’t use primer on any of my swatches 🙂

  • silvy

Hello Muse!!! OMG I am such a big fan of your blog. Is like should I buy this?…Let’s see what the muse said!!!
You are gorgeous and a great blogger!!! THANK YOU.
About me, I am very very fair and (yellow undertone) 30 year old. I am new to makeup, don’t have any tarte palette. Which one do you recommend I should get, this one (GREATEST GLITZ) or Home for the holidaze?
Which one do you think is of better quality? and which one has more flattering blush colors for ghostly fair ladies such as myself?
    THANKS YOU X 1000000000000

Hi Silvy! Aw thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoy Musings of a Muse! Your comment means so much to me. I didn’t really like Home for the Holidaze as much as I did this palette. If you read my home for the Holidaze review you’ll see what I mean 🙂 Both have pretty blushes but the blushes in the home for the holidaze are a little less bright (one shade is bright, the others are more dusky neutrals) so that might be better for a fairer skin type! Hope this helps! 🙂

      • silvy

Thanks for your answer!!!!! Greatest Glitz it is! btw, sorry for the double entry before, I didn’t know how to erase it.
I wish you also had a YouTube channel. I feel you have so many followers already!!!! :))))))) 🙂

        • Isabella Muse

my pleasure, oh it’s ok! don’t worry about the double post. Ah sorry, no time for youtube 🙁

  • Ashley

Do you think the Sephora holiday palette and the Ulta holiday palette are similar?

  • silvy

Hi There!!! So I got this palette and NOBODY could have described it better than you!!! 🙂 the blushes are really really pretty. And they have that glowing effect we all like, but still subtle and natural. The mate eyeshadows are great, although I am experiencing a lot of fall out with the glittery eyeshadows. Maybe is because I can apply them right, or maybe is just me. Other than that, I love it.

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks silvy! that’s so flattering to hear 🙂 I’m so glad you like it! Try a cream base like mac paint pots to lessen the fall out 🙂

  • Tami

I like this tarte set better than the sephora one, which is odd for me! lol. I was planning to skip all shadows this year as my collection is pretty big..I love tarte and sigh, I gave in to this one. It’s better laid out, it is convenient and comes with the blush built in & those colors are quite pretty! This was a big hit for ulta & thanks for the review on it – How do you feel about the shadows in this one compared to the sephora one? The only thing I noted was the sephora one may have more mattes but it got a lot of mixed and even bad reviews on quality from other sites

  • Grace S.

Hi, I was wondering if you knew how long they’d be selling this palette? Thanks!

    • Isabella Muse

It’s limited edition so I can’t really say Grace. Whenever they run out!? 🙂 I’m not sure how popular it is so it might go fast, if it isn’t so popular it might be around until February! Depends!

  • Lauren

Oops…I should have read the comments before posting a question…I had a feeling the Ulta one might be slightly nicer! I have to return the other one now lol

  • Crystal Rosenstengle

I just received this beauty, I bought it for a Christmas gift for myself and my daughter..love love love it,
    question?
are all tarte eyeshadows& blushes made from Amazonian clay,, and what are the benefits from using this ingredient?

  • Liv Campagna

Love your blog! This post is so detailed and amazing. Great reviews! How do you get your swatches so pigmented?!

    • Isabella Muse

thanks so much Liv! 🙂 The shadows are fairly pigmented so it wasn’t nothing I did.
