Tarte Greatest Glitz Collector’s Set & Portable Palettes Review & Swatches
The Tarte Greatest Glitz Collector’s Set & Portable Palettes ($49) is a new, limited edition Holiday set that launched with the Tarte Holiday 2015 Collection that’s available exclusively at Ulta.
Tarte does several very large palettes and gift sets everything year for the Holidays and they are always, in my opinion, an excellent value for your buck. This year the Tarte Greatest Glitz Collector’s Set & Portable Palettes is a little different from prior years If you recall the Tarte Away Oui Go Portable Palette & Collectors Set from Tarte Holiday 2014 and the Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Portable Palette Set from Tarte Holiday 2013 all had removable quads which could be housed in a single portable palette that you could tote around with you or travel with while leaving behind the rest of the items in the set.
This year the Great Glitz Collector’s Set & Portable Palettes are more packaged more like the Too Faced Le Belle Carousel Set which features removable travel friendly palettes. Yes, you do in fact get a big (and perhaps you might consider it bulky) jewelry box with a pull out drawer and a flip top lid but inside you’ll get three different removable (and smaller) eye and cheek palettes!
As you can see the palette comes in a gold sparkly jewelry box. The top lid of the box has little multicolored sequins in a smoky gray, rose gold, and gold (which happen to match the theme of the eyeshadows in the box). The box is actually not very deep as the drawer takes up the most space so you won’t be able to store larger makeup in it after the palettes are removed. But it will make either a nice jewelry box, letter box, or it’s nice for store lipglosses and lipsticks.
The palette pays home to a total of 24 new eyeshadows shades and 3 exclusive blushes plus you get deluxe sizes of Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara and Deluxe Lipsurgence Lip Creme in Flashy which are both stores in the pull out drawer located at the bottom of the jewelry box.
On the top layer of the palette you’ll find three removable rectangle palettes (I placed the small Lipsurgence by the palette so you can get a feel for its size below) each of which holds 8 eyeshadows and one blush (the names of the eyeshadow and blush are printed under each shade on the palette). Each palette has a certain color scheme that matches its outer color packaging. For example, the rose gold palette has rose gold shades of eyeshadow where as the gold palette features golds and browns, and so on and so fourth. Each of the eyeshadows is 0.024 oz in size and the blushes are 0.155 oz in size.
I think the main worry about these sets and palettes is that many fans are worried about running into reruns or duplicate shades. I wouldn’t say, particularly in the case of the blushes, there are any spot on duplicates here but there are shades very, very similar which can be found in a range of Tarte palettes. Sadly, if you are a Tarte fan and you have a wide variety of Tarte palettes you’ve purchased you these shades could feel like a rehash. I didn’t particular mind very much though as I felt they were grouped into such a nice arrangement and I didn’t have to hunt around and look for shades to pair up together as the shades are grouped into a nice little set and I can just grab a palette, create a look, and go. I used some of the rose gold shades in my look below. I really love they included rose gold shades as I feel like the trend went by too quickly when it was a little hot earlier this Spring and Summer! I was personally one of those people that loved the shades in the Maybelline the Blushed Nudes Palette so these shades were really lovely for me!
The eyeshadows are soft, silky, and some have a velvety texture as well with a range of mattes, metallics, shimmers, and satins. I’d say the formula was consistent throughout a majority of the colors but some of the darker mattes shades (as you can see in my swatches) were a bit patchy and dry.
(Cheers, Jingle All The Grey, Slate Bells Ring, Platinum Bling)
(Black Tie Beauty, Mint Spring, Bedazzled Spruce, and Smoke & Mirrors)
(Bubbly)
(Chestnuts Roasting, Vio-let It Go, Spiked Cider, Dipped in Chocolate)
(Toasted Marshmallow, Cookie Swap, Vixen, Twinkle Lights)
(Warmhearted)
(Sparkling Punch, Joy to the Pearl, Blush Stilettos, Glitzy Blitzen)
(Waltz of the Flowers, Rose Golden Rings, Rose Such a Clatter, Evening Affair)
(Impress)
I thought the blushes were particularly lovely in this set. These did not feel like duplicate shades at all. There’s a very nice the Balm Frat Boy shade dupe here but the shade seems a touch more deeper raspberry in comparison. I think these are formulated considerably different than your typical Amazonian Clay Blush. The formula is a bit more powdery in comparison but the colors are still rich in pigment and they apply very well with excellent length of wear at around eight to ten hours.
As I mentioned above this set also includes a LipSurgence Lip Creme in Flashy which is a nice warm pink (0.056 oz). This shade has a cream finish with a cool minty flavor and fragrance. And finally you do get a Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara which is 0.13 oz in size. I won’t go into a deep review on either of these items as I’ve reviewed them many, many times in the past so check my archives to for reviews. I will say that I use Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara daily as it is a staple mascara for me as it gives great length and fullness to lashes!
I personally thought the Tarte Greatest Glitz Collector’s Set & Portable Palettes was a very nice set. There’s a few miss eyeshadows in here but for the most part the quality was consistent across the board with plenty of pigment and an excellent formulation on both the blushes and eyeshadows. The set offers a nice range of colors and I like the way the palettes are broken down into three different looks of rose gold, smoky, and a natural gold or brown eye look. I also really enjoyed the blushes in the set.
Whether or not you need it would be a personal choice and decision. Personally I think it is a great set with some wonderful shades however, as a Tarte fan girl I can see it being a little bit of a rehash from seasons past!
But it should would make a lovely gift for someone who doesn’t have a ton of Tarte or who is just now experiencing the joys of the brand!
