MAC Von Teese Lipstick1

MAC Von Teese Lipstick ($18) or if you will MAC Dita Von Teese Lipstick is a new lipstick created by MAC and Dita Von Teese that will be available exclusively on MAC’s website for a limited time starting December 9th.

Dita Von Teese Lipstick in any shade of red sounds like a complete no brainier to me as it’s kinda her signature shade of lipstick and she always looks so incredible in it. This in turn makes me think that I just might be able to pull off red lipstick without looking like a clown.

Dita is such a style icon, I’m surprised she has dabbled more in makeup and beauty. She’s had a few collaborations with MAC, Art Deco, plus her own fragrance line but honestly, for someone has glam as she is, I’m surprised she isn’t the ambassador for every high end brand out there.

None the less at least we now have MAC Von Teese Lipstick and just in time for the Holidays too as this classic red will make for many a lovely Christmas look!

Ok, so I admit I wish Von Teese Lipstick was a bit warmer! MAC calls it a vivid tomato red and I have to say I look all kinds of bad in tomato reds. But more on all this in a second.

This comes in a limited edition barrel which is black with Dita’s signature scrolled along the bottom. The lipstick itself also has Dita’s signature embossed into it.

MAC Von Teese Lipstick is a matte finish MAC Lipstick with excellent pigmentation that does run a smidge drier so do prep well for the smoothest application. It does pull a little during application and tends to accentuate drier, flakier areas on my lips but never falls into the natural lines of my lips so it does look even and smooth just not as fresh if I forget to exfoliate or apply balm prior to applying so just a head’s up on that for those of us with drier lips.

MAC calls it a tomato red and I typically lean towards warmer reds myself or I even really like cherry reds. But tomato, not so much. This has an orange-y undertone to me but it still feels like the most traditional red lipstick shade around. I think shades like this are what kinda sorta make me feel red lipstick as the shade is the most common red around. That isn’t to say it won’t look amazing on, it’s just not ideal for my light medium skin tone as this feels like something a paler girl can get away with versus one like me who has some warmth to her complexion.

It wears for around five hours without migrating but it does feather if you’re prone to drier lips. It does leave a bit of a stain behind after fading but for the initial five hours it looks very fresh and almost as if you just applied it prior to showing signs of wear at just that five hour mark.

Von Teese isn’t exactly my color of red but I’m still glad it is part of my makeup stash as I’ll likely work it easily into some looks plus with the Holidays here I’m sure it’ll make more than one appearance at a Holiday gathering or party. Honestly, if MAC got together with Dita and created a few more reds I wouldn’t be averse to collecting them all as after all I want to be like Dita when I grow up (A girl can dream!).

so I have not been excited for a MAC release in what seems like years. This has me so excited and wanting to get it immediately! I have a very similar skin tone to Isabella, but am convinced that I can pull it off if I do just a white shimmer on the eyes and a neutral blush.

I have not been this excited for a red since Clinique came out with Liv’s (Liv Tyler) Red when Armageddon came out and Gwen Stefani shared the Shu red she was partial to! I have all of two reds (the ones above) since I don’t look good in red, but girl I want to be Dita!

You’ll look great with it I’m sure Janelle 🙂 I just wanted it because Dita’s name was on it, is that weird?! 🙂 haha don’t we all want to be Dita?!

Pretty. I’m glad it’s a brighter red, which means I won’t be tempted to pick it up. If it was vampier, though, I’d be all over it.

I understand how you feel uncomfortable with a tomato red, but lordy! It looks FABULOUS on you. I wouldn’t write at all if I didn’t think it looked good. It really brightens up your face.
Happy Thanksgiving! I’m thankful for your blog, even if I don’t write much.

    Hi,
thanks for the detailed review and lovely pictures. I was wondering, could you post the ingredients list or a picture of the cover where they might be visible? Thanks.

Musey, my love, you look incredibly gorgeous. I think this red suits you to a “T”. I’m always afraid to wear red with my complexion ~ the few times I have tried it, it’s accentuated the red in my complexion (which is really pronounced all on it’s own). Most lipstick doesn’t look good on me. I think I own one, MAC’s Sophisto, that looks halfway decent on me. I think because it’s semi-sheer.
Anyway, I digress. Your brows are FLAWless, by the way!!!
