Burt's Bees Lipstick

Burt’s Bees Lipstick ($8.99) is a permanent 14 shade range of lipsticks the brand created that are made with Moringa and Red Raspberry Seed Oils. Wait, but is it a lipstick? It kinda reminds me of a lip balm.

I’m so picturing Burt sitting at some big desk somewhere, stroking his hipster beard, squinting his eyes, and thinking to himself, “Why is the lowly human calling my new lipstick a lip balm!?”

I have love hate relationship with Burt’s Bees Lip Crayons and I had this fear that the new lipstick collection would be matte BUT THANK YOU makeup gods they are not! But full disclosure, the packaging sucks! But more on that in a bit.

I paid $8.99 for the single shade I purchased at Ulta.com but you can snag these now at Target.com with 10% Off using promo code SHINE plus you’ll get a $5 Gift Card if you spend $25 on Burt’s Bees products. So that deal is kinda worth exploring should these interest you!

These come in an interesting lightweight tall square barrel. It’s basic but unique packaging however, the larger size might be irritating for storage since it is a bit taller than the average lipstick. Each lipstick is 0.12 oz in size. I hate it because the lipstick doesn’t swivel down all the way. For some reason or another it swivels down ALMOST completely but the tip of the lipstick is still visible which can lead to potentially slicing off a chunk when replacing the lid. Please, can everyone STOP making lipsticks that don’t swivel down completely? I’m clumsy and messy, this packaging is a disaster for klutzy people like me!

Aside from the packaging this is a fab lipstick ahem lip balm. I regret not purchasing more shades but hey, at least I can take advantage of the Target deal now. According to the brand the formula is 100% natural and contains high levels of essential fatty acids. It has a thicker, balmy like consistency that glides on beautifully and drenches lips in color and moisture. It almost feels like a treatment of some sort as through the wear of five hours my lips felt incredibly comfortable and super soft after color wore away. Color pay off is intense on the single shade I purchased with opaque color pay off at a single layer. I detected no flavor or fragrance in the formula.

They did a great job with this formula. If you have drier lips you’ll really enjoy this. Burt’s Bees Lipstick delivers moisture, beautiful color, and gorgeous wear in this formula!

Yes, do go grab them!

Check out the Burt’s Bees Lipstick Collection now at Ulta.com and Target.com and they should be in stores soon!

that color looks GREAT on you.
I am interested in this – especially after wearing matte liquid lipstick exclusively for the past 3 months – my lips are screaming for some moisture and balm.

I do not like that packaging – good idea, but it looks extremely plastic-y.

I’m completely with you about lipsticks that don’t swivel down all the way. Why???? The little honeycomb design on the packaging is cute, though, and the color looks gorgeous.

Yayyyyy!! My drugstore lip balm issue just got resolved, thank you Muse! Instead of the new cover girl fresh tinted balms, I’ll get a few of these. Now I can’t wait to get them

Hi Muse! So I ordered blush basin from ULTA in a larger order, but while waiting for that I saw the lineup at CVS and had a $5 off $15 coupon, so I snatched sunset cruise and juniper water. The following week, got another $5 off $15 coupon so I picked up suede splash and lily lake. I should really stop there, but these are such nice lipsticks that I can’t make any promises Thanks so much for the review, it tipped me off to a great product!

I’m with you, I don’t know why companies make lippies that don’t swivel all the way down. Don’t even get me started on the WNW Megalast ones! I saw these new Burt lippies at Walgreens today. The honeycomb design is cute, but when I picked up the tube, it was SO super lightweight, it felt like it was empty, it has no heft to it, so it felt kind of cheap to me. But hey, if the formula and pigment are really good, I’m willing to try one on sale. These Burt lippies actually sound much better than the new Cover Girl ones (aka the Fresh dupe) –these have 100% natural ingredients/oils, more moisture, more pigment, no nasty flavor, and price is about the same. If Burt makes them a little more sheer and calls them “lip balms/treatments”, I think they can be re-marketed as Fresh dupes!

I know right? It is SO light! I liked them better! Considering the price on Covergirl’s balm you might as well toss a few more dollars at Burt’s Bees and get one of these.

  • Swang

Love that color on you! Looks like a good one to keep in my purse! 🙂 I hope you do use the Target coupon to review more colors 😉

    • Isabella Muse

thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! I did haha! I got five more shades yesterday 😀

  • Lori

You ROCK that red, Muse! I have been waiting and looking… and waiting and looking… but these haven’t popped up in store near me yet. I may have to take advantage of the Target deal! Thanks for the heads up on that.

I actually prefer lipsticks that are more like balms. I feel like they’re impossible to overdo, and every color can be wearable when it’s a little more sheer. 🙂 Bring it, Burt!

    • Isabella Muse

Aw thanks Lori! 🙂 My pleasure! I actually was hunting too but didn’t find them anywhere, finally caved ordered one from Ulta and a few others yesterday at Target 😀

  • Monica

If Burt is stroking his hipster beard, he’s doing it at the great honeycomb in the sky. He passed away sometime this year. Sorry to disappoint! I saw these in Walgreens and thought about grabbing one but decided it not to. I might have to now. BTW, I LOVE the new layout!!! It’s been a while since I’ve checked in (life being so busy and such) and I absolutely adore the new look.

    • Isabella Muse

aw that’s sad! I didn’t even know he had passed! awwwww thank you! So glad you like it!

  • Allison

How is the wear on these? About how long do they last before they get patchy or streaky, and how long before you have to reapply? Also I’ve heard they tend to get that lipstick line on the lip after wearing them for a while, and that they gather in the fine lines of the lips badly. Did you experience that? I’d like to know before I pick these up.

    • Isabella Muse

I actually addressed the wear time in this post Allison. From my review “It almost feels like a treatment of some sort as through the wear of five hours…” I didn’t have issues with it migrating, feathering, or gathering in my natural lips. it was soft, smooth color. I’d have addressed such an issue in my post if I had a problem but didn’t have any issues! But…it really depends. You or someone else might experience the formula differently! Perhaps the person who reviewed it has drier lips than my own, perhaps they have aging lips, etc…there’s a lot that factors into how something might wear. I personally didn’t experience any of the issues that the review you read had. Hope this helps!?

  • Yelena

Thx for the review muse. Anyone know where i can see swatches of the full line? Or atleast more colors? I am trying to order online and wont get to a store fora few weeks lol.

  • morgane

    hi muse,
you said you went back and got some more colors, which ones did you get? what are your favorite colors that you got?

  • Barb

I was hoping that you would swatch these in all the colors. I bought the Russet River at Walgrens, and they had a $1 off coupon with the display. I have a terminal problem with dry lips. These lipsticks are wonderfully moisterizing. They last pretty well, too. I have not had the “ring around’the mouth” with this. Russet River is a very brownish red. The one thing that pleases me is that these are void of all the chemicals that other lipsticks are loaded with. Up until now I was using NYX butter lipstick in Licorice, but I’d like to get another Burt Bee’s when they go on sale–I’m sure it is just a matter of time.

    • Isabella Muse

Sorry Barb, at the time each one was $8.99 and swatching every single shade would be $80 dollars or more. Reviewing stuff can get expensive sometimes 🙂 so I stuck to doing on at the time. Since that time I got a few other shades on sale, I’ll def update this point at some point with those colors. Sorry about the lack of colors in the review. I’m glad you like them. They really are a nice formula! 🙂
