I recently picked up Herbivore Brighten Pineapple Enzyme + Gemstone Instant Glow Mask at Sephora because it reminded me so much of my favorite Etsy Indie brand, French Girl Organics (which, by the very way, is now sold at Anthropologie!).

I also picked it up because the formula sounded very promising. As a girl who struggles with duller skin I’m always looking for the next best thing to keep my skin glowing and fresh.

Herbivore Brighten Pineapple Enzyme + Gemstone Instant Glow Mask promises to gently exfoliate skin with pineapple enzyme so skin is brighter, softer, and smoother. Honestly, they promise of instant glow and illumination kinda made me curl my nose up in skepticism. And I’ll be the first to say that I felt I paid too much for this the first time I used it.

Now I’m just thinking when I’ll need my second purchase as I really need to stock up!

So Herbivore Brighten Pineapple Enzyme + Gemstone Instant Glow Mask comes as a great surprise to me! Let’s find out why.

Herbivore Brighten Pineapple Enzyme + Gemstone Instant Glow Mask comes housed in a 2 oz jar with a plastic spatula you can use to scoop it out. Now the jar packaging kinda makes me sad but I think I might just use it all up before the ingredients are rendered useless or ineffective due to the jar packaging.

At first I thought it was a scrub as they talk about gemstones and pineapple enzymes, etc…so I thought I’d be using it to scrub my skin to that glow they promise. But it’s actually a mask! Apparently it contains a host of ingredients like micronized Brazilian tourmaline gemstone, pineapple enzyme, rice powder, and rose water to brighten and exfoliate naturally. It doesn’t contain a ton of fillers which in fact works very well for me as it lacks alcohol, fragrances, and artificial colors so my skin is never dry or tight after using it.

I read a lot of reviews saying how great it smelled but I honestly did not notice any fragrance at all. The consistency is a runny, thinner cream which they recommend applying to skin in a thin layer and leaving on for 20 minutes (only 5 minutes for sensitive skin). I actually got caught up watching Flesh and Bone (I want my eight hours back! Damn stupid show!) and left it on 30 minutes. According to the box it would cause a little tingle but I honestly didn’t notice that at all. After I realized I had it on 30 minutes I proceeded to rinse it off. It was a little difficult to rinse off so I wet a wash cloth and gently wiped it away. I didn’t notice any radiance or brightness after rinsing but it my skin did feel soft, smooth, and plush which I rather enjoyed considering many exfoliating treatments leave me feeling tight and dry. Upon closer inspection in my 1000000 x mirror I noticed the flaky area around my cheeks was completely eliminated and my skin looked so much more smoother. That night my serum and moisturizer absorbed much more easier as well.

I admit although being very pleased with the smoothness I was disappointed I didn’t see the brightening effect right away. However, the brightening actually came the next morning as my skin looked great. I have fairly resilient, clear skin but it tends to look dull and tired without makeup. This made my skin look as great as it did in high school! It looked all awake and happy!

Since my purchase in November I’ve taken to using it twice a week and my skin’s surface has shown a dramatic improvement. It’s so much softer and smoother than it typically is as around this time of the year I tend to have rough, drier patches on my cheeks. I’m also happy about how well my moisturizer and foundations apply plus my skin looks brighter.

I also loved the fact that this was fairly gentle on my drier skin. I never felt tight or drier after using it and it even added a certain light moisture and plush, plump feel to my skin. It’s expensive but I’m well on my way to another purchase as I will be injecting this into my weekly skincare treatments.

Herbivore Brighten Pineapple Enzyme + Gemstone Instant Glow Mask is a win! Get your glow back while softening, smoothing, and refining the surface of your skin.

Love it.

Hey Muse – if you want to try a reasonably priced enzyme mask, try the one from Alba Botanica – It’s a papaya one, not pineapple, but I’ve used it for years and just love it! I get it from Vitacost for about $9 – and it lasts quite a while, and I’ve never had it go bad on me. (I had one for the better part of a year, and it still tingled/stung just a tad when I applied it) It doesn’t have any scrubby grains in it – it’s a light green gel but this is the bomb-diggity for me! 🙂

Thanks for the review, had been wondering about this one!

I currently swear by the Ren GlycoLactic mask as my weekly skin clearing/brightening mask for my oily skin (I also have a weekly clay/exfoliating mask and in the winter a weekly moisturizing mask – yes, I have a weekly mask agenda!), but have had this one on my Sephora wish list and have been wondering about it for a while. Will probably check it out next when I run out of the Ren!

Recently OBSESSED with the brand. I will add this to one of three big mask buckets I have. Love me some cream masks! Have you tried moon fruit yet Muse? My dry skin adores it so I think yours will as well.
