Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Extreme Shimmer Pencil + Smudger Trio

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Extreme Shimmer Pencil + Smudger Trio ($12.95) is a new glitter eyeliner trio that’s launching now at drugstores for Spring 2016. This pack comes with three eyeliners that have a shimmery, glittery finish in bronze, gold, and black. I had a lot of fun recently with the Shimmer Strips Extreme Shimmer Kohl Kajal + Liquid Liner Trio so I expected more of the same with this set.

Or so I thought.

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Extreme Shimmer Pencil + Smudger Trio 1

The Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Extreme Shimmer Pencil + Smudger Trio has potential to be a really fun trio of shimmery eyeliners. Sometimes you just want a little quick shimmer on your lash line and that’s exactly part of the reason the kohl set was fun! They proved easy to apply, added nice sparkle and color to my lash line, and they just looked fun without making me look like a disco ball. I expected the same from this set but unfortunately the formula was lacking.

These are a slim line pencil that weights 0.06 oz in size that’s dual sided featuring the pencil on one side and a smudger on the other. I honestly expected these to be creamy and easy to blend out with the smudger but they are so dense and so dry that they literally hurt when applying on my lash line. No bueno!

They could potentially prove really fun especially since Physcians Formula launched them nearer to the Holidays and with New Year’s around the corner who doesn’t want to inject a little sparkle in your look? Granted the sparkle isn’t kindly to eyes but if you’re careful about application and not applying near your waterline you should be fine. They have fairly nice pigmentation and all the shades have nice sparkle but sadly the formula wasn’t what I expected. I wish they were creamier but I thought the texture very dry and very dense so I had to drag them over my lash line in a rather painful way.

No good.

Needless to say these are fun in theory but application was really poor. They wore well for me without smearing or smudging but I’m doubtful I’ll use them all that much as I’m not relishing the idea of dragging them painfully across my lash line with each application.

Sorry Physicians Formula! Release ’em with a creamier consistency and I’ll be all hands on deck because I really do love these little sets they release but I sadly have little success with their formulas in the eyeliner department.

But as of now, I’ll likely be tossing them in the makeup graveyard.

So sad about the application of these. I really like the gold shade too. It’s super pretty and I would use it but would want a creamier formula too. 🙂

What a refreshingly honest review! It’s great to see that there’s at least one blogger out there who has plenty of journalistic integrity! There are a ton of nice, well-designed blogs that don’t disclose PR samples or just rave indiscriminately. This is why I feel like I can always trust your reviews. Good stuff.

Why thank you Diana! 🙂 Truly I appreciate your kind words!!!!!!! And I’m flattered I have your trust! xoxox!

Oh no, the swatches are so pretty! Back in the bad old days, we used to light matches to get dry, hard liners to soften up, but I can’t even imagine all the carcinogenic compounds created. Do you think heating the tips with a warm hair dryer might help?

    • Isabella Muse

Possibly!? I didn’t try! I was worried that heating it would make the glitter slide around a bit too much during application which could make it get into my eye, which would NOT be pleasant 🙂
