Derek Lam 10 Crosby Fragrance Collection

Much to my delight last night I stumbled on the full size Derek Lam 10 Crosby Fragrance Collection at Sephora last night. All 10 fragrances that were originally offered in the Derek Lam 10 Crosby Fragrance Collection Gift Set ($95) are now available in 1.7 and 5.9 oz sizes.

This was pretty exciting as earlier last year, around November, the Derek Lam 10 Crosby Fragrance Collection Gift Set launched. This is a $95 set that includes all ten fragrances in 0.25 spray bottles. I can’t express much I love Sephora for creating complete fragrance collection sample sets. Juliette Has a Gun, Tocca, Histories de Parfumes, and quite a few other niche brands have fantastic sets that include all their fragrances housed in one sample set at one great price. This a fabulous when you want to try everything from a brand without committing to a single fragrance. It’s also a great way to to spend $100 or more dollars before trying out the a fragrance. For example, I wanted to try the Histories de Parfumes for a long time I blind purchased four of these fragrance. Thankfully I loved them all but after purchasing them, a few weeks later, the Histories de Parfumes Discovery Set launched. I quickly purchased this set because I wanted try more from this great niche fragrance brand. The set includes EVERY single fragrance the brand offers. Talk about variety!

Anyway, I must digress, as this is about Derek Lam’s new fragrance line.

As I was saying the Derek Lam 10 Crosby Fragrance Collection Gift Set launched around the Holiday season. At the time Derek wasn’t offering full sizes of his fragrances so this was an introduction to his new fragrance collection. Now that the full sizes are available they might intrigue you enough to try them out. In that case, now is a good time as any to put the Derek Lam 10 Crosby Fragrance Collection Gift Set on your haul list.

Derek’s perfumes are not entirely cheap but one wouldn’t expect them to be as one he is a designer and two he falls into the niche category of fragrances. I find mid-range niche fragrances are around the $95 to $200 which is where Derek fits right in. Depending on your budget that may or may not be expensive to you. Personally that’s around what I spend on niche fragrances where as on the higher end I’ve splurged $300 and a little over for certain Guerlain fragrances. If you’re a perfume lover most of this is common knowledge to you.

My point here is that spending $95 on Derek’s sampler is actually a great way to try all of his fragrances out, every single one, without splurging on a single scent for $95. This is a good way to get a feel for the fragrances, it’s also an excellent way to weed out ones you love and ones that aren’t for you, and it is happens to be a great way to find out how well these wear on you and how strongly.

I’m not going to lie some of these fragrances have poor sillage and aren’t as strong as I had hoped for that’s why the sample set was a great way to weed through the hits and the misses. Although I’m sad to say that the weaker ones like Silent St. were some of my favorites.

Each fragrance was inspired by Crosby Street. 10 Crosby Street to be exact! I haven’t opened my full sizes yet but the sampler doesn’t explain the story behind each fragrance. I have hopes that the full sizes do. The fragrances were inspired by the happenings on Crosby Street as seen from Derek’s window. I’d love it if it shared the stories that inspired the fragrances.

You get:

  • Derek Lam 10 Crosby Silent St.: White Musks
  • Derek Lam 10 Crosby Looking Glass: Chinese Magnolia, Tonka Bean Madagascar
  • Derek Lam 10 Crosby Hi-Fi: Pink Peony, French Narcisse
  • Derek Lam 10 Crosby Drunk On Youth: Crisp Apple, Honeysuckle
  • Derek Lam 10 Crosby Afloat: White Mimosa, Orris
  • Derek Lam 10 Crosby Rain Day: Neroli Tunisia, Vetiver Haiti
  • Derek Lam 10 Crosby Something Wild: Cedarwood, Vanilla Bean Madagascar
  • Derek Lam 10 Crosby Ellipsis: Australian Sandalwood, Jasmine
  • Derek Lam 10 Crosby Blackout: Osmanthus, Chai Tea Essence
  • Derek Lam 10 Crosby 2am Kiss: Salty Wood, Crystalized Amber

Honestly, some of these notes don’t sound terribly eventful for example Silent Street described as white musks isn’t something that makes me curious or even intrigued. But it smells amazingly fresh, clean, and very unique. It’s actually a fragrance that evoked, in me, the silence of the streets of Manhattan during the recent snow storm. My city never sleeps, never stops, but the silence during the storm was truly a beautiful thing to behold. No traffic, no sirens or construction, no busy chatter, so silent you could hear the snow fall. That’s what the fragrance reminds me of! Fresh, clean, just fallen snow. Delicate, beautiful….!

Drunk On Youth, well, that’s pretty much what you’d think it smells like. Sweet but not tooth-achingly so! It reminds me of young girls all dressed up in their designer duds sipping Cosmopolitans at some chic bar trying to look really grown up!

Anyway..I could go on and on about this set but I do urge you to check it out for yourself. If you’re a fragrance lover especially a niche one, you’re sure to enjoy trying all of these out and create your own imaginings of what they smell like!

Great to know, thx Muse! I’m always looking for fragrances to try as I don’t have access to high end counters. Not that I’ll ever tire of my new Tocca Meet the Girls set…

Saw these on Sephora. I plan to someday get them; they sound awesome. I get easily bored so these mini sizes would be perfect for me. 🙂
