Spring 2016 Makeup & Beauty Hits and Misses

Spring 2016 Makeup and Beauty

The Spring 2016 Makeup & Beauty season has been filled with more hits than misses this year. That’s always a nice thing isn’t it? There’s nothing more disappointing than getting excited about some new beauty product, purchasing it, trying it out, and hating it.

Sadness!

To save you some time and some money I rounded up some Spring 2016 Makeup & Beauty Hits and Misses you should keep your eye out for.

hit

NARS LAmour, Toujours LAmour Eyeshadow Palette
It’s not NARS most intensely pigmented eyeshadow palette but it is one I’ll likely reach for daily. This combination of color wash eyeshadows creates super looks that can take you from work to an evening out in seconds. It’s easy to use and ideal for those of us with drier, finely lined eyes!

Milani Length In Seconds Lash Extension Fibers
Milani’s new fiber extensions add length and fullness to lashes in seconds without fall out and without that weird “Ouch! There’s something in my eye!” feeling! Plus I love the fact they are sold by themselves so you can easily combine them with any of your favorite mascaras.

Rimmel The Only One Lipstick
Rimmel’s delightful lipstick gains a big old Muse Approval from me. These gems are budget friendly, packed with pigment, and have a smooth, slick glide on lips!

Neutrogena Spring 2016 Moisture Smooth Color Stick
Neutrogena introduced several new shades of their Color Sticks and they are incredible. This collection of shades has some truly gorgeous berries and nudes that will make for a beautiful lip look this Spring!

Covergirl Trunaked Eyeshadow Palette
Covergirl’s newest palettes have a soft, velvety eyeshadow formula that’s easy to work and creates some gorgeous eye looks! These are truly a fav for me this season and I’m hoping Covergirl does more shades in the line!

Burts Bees Lipstick
Burt’s Bees new lipstick is delightful! Pigmented, lightly moisturizing, and long wearing this formula is well worth picking up and exploring it!

Maybelline Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayon
I was pretty excited about Maybelline gifting us with their Color Tattoo formula in a new pencil format. It seemed a great idea at the time as these would be easy to travel with and apply. Sadly, the too slick formula proved difficult to apply and blending out ended up in a sheerer color pay off which translated into a lot of building with some creasing as well.

Yes To Coconut Ultra Hydrating Facial Mask
This one is a little too expensive for what it does. It’s rich, it’s creamy, but I didn’t feel super hydrated after using this mask! You can get better results from a hydrating moisturizer or grab yourself a box of Asian Sheet Masks!

Wet n Wild Coloricon Blush (New Formulated for Spring 2016)
Wet n Wild reintroduced their Coloricon Blushes in a new packaging and formula but sadly, it was never broken so there wasn’t any need to fix it. The original formula was perfect but the new formula proves quite powdery and isn’t exactly an improvement!

Milani Moisture Lock Oil Infused Lip Treatment
Milani”s new lip oil launch was an exciting one. I think we all had fits of excitement that these would hydrate, sooth, and soften up our chapped, dry Winter lips. Sadly, they turned out to be a light lipgloss that provided a bit of shine but very little moisture.

LOreal Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow
L’Oreal new single eyeshadow collection proves a miss for me. These had an interesting texture but they didn’t apply well and the formula varied from shade to shade.

Definitely rimmel the one lipstick in shade Best of the Best is the best. It is a beautiful berry red shade and lasted over 5 hours including drinking water and eating. The wear is incredible. I bought it after your review in Ulta website on sale for buy one get one 50% off.

I grabbed Rimmel only one lipstick in Naughty Nude on a whim. Holy smokes, this is a great lippie, for all the reasons you listed. On me, it’s a pinky nude brown, brightens up my face like most nudes do not.

would you recommend rimmel over burts bees? I see they both made it on your hits list. I have one BB lipstick in iced iris but I’m not crazy about it. I’m curious to try rimmel’s new lipstick now and trying to decide if I should or not….

Both are excellent picks 🙂 that’s why I put them on the hit list! 🙂

Hi. Thank you for ppsting about the new L’Oreal singles. I had my eye on them, but now I know it’s okay to pass.

Also, you said “with fallout” on the Milani lash fibers. Did you mean “without”?

  • Wolfsbane

That Rimmel lipstick is awesome. I used one with a lip liner. I caught myself in the mirror a few hours later and stopped and said “wait a minute. This lipstick is amazing!”. My boyfriend laughed so hard.

    Isabella,
Thank you for writing such a great blog. I enjoy reading it everyday and take your advice. Please keep up the great work!!!!

I totally agree with you on the L’oreal shadows. I grabbed two of them when I saw them, so excited to try them! They seem very hard to apply. A brush doesn’t do it; they seem to hard for a brush to pick up the pigment at all, and using my finger only smooshes them further into the case so I don’t get much pigment. They are a solid “meh” for me.
BUT based on your review and comments on the Rimmel lipsticks, I’m going to have to give them a try. I would have passed on them otherwise, so thanks!

Likewise, they are a formula that proves a little hard to work with. :-/ Try a sponge applicator, that seemed to work best for me. They are really nice! I liked the formula on ’em a lot if you try lmk what you think!

  • Cassia

I so love hit and miss posts!! I usually don’t have time to read all single reviews so those posts help a lot,Thanks

  • Suzanne

Loved the covergirl eyeshadows. Thank you Muse for recommending them. I never liked CG shadows but after your review I went out to try them and owe you a big THANK YOU!

Also Im loving the butter bronzer from physicians formula. I bought both shades. Its so smooth and beautiful. 🙂

I need the rimmel lipsticks and covergirl palletes! I think they might be the perfect earth tones I have been looking for! thanks!

  • Natalie Brown

I really appreciate how honest your reviews are. My only “hit” so far with has been the Dream Velvet foundation. LOVE!
