When Was the Last Time You Shopped Your Own Makeup Stash?

makeup stash

When was the last time you shopped your own makeup stash?

I try to do it often. Why? Because it reminds me how much I already have and how I really don’t NEED more 🙂 Believe me, if you shop your own stash it’ll instantly cool down that need to buy that exciting new palette everyone is buzzing about or that gorgeous new lipstick formula that you’re hearing ravings about.

I think it can be a fun experience as well and not necessarily a money saving one (although believe me it will save you $$$!). It’s nice to rediscover some old favorite lipstick you haven’t used in a while or an eyeshadow you haven’t worn in ages!

It’s also a really good way to weed through items you might not need or want or even items that need to be thrown out.

When was the last time you shopped your own stash?

I actually did it recently with my fragrance collection. It’s a rather vast collection and I decided to re-organize it. I was pretty delighted doing this because I had some favorite fragrances I haven’t used in a while and I brought them out to play.

How about you?

Do share your recent self makeup stash shopping!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Pretty frequently. I have a very large stash, so I like to keep rotating through it. It’s fun to rediscover old loves, too.

I’m with Rachel. I organized all my palettes and I just rotate through them. I wear something different every day. However, I still occasionally buy new stuff although I am to the point where I am cutting back on buying just because I have so much. If the zombie apocalypse ever hits, I will still be able to run around in full makeup for the next 40 years without ever running out of makeup! 🙂

      • Isabella Muse

ah if makeup was a trading commodity when the zombie Apocalypse does hit but I fear people will be more worried about guns, batteries, and food! Darn!

When the seasons change I go through my container of blushes and eye shadows. I can usually find a blush in my stash that keeps me from purchasing new ones. It’s the eye shadows I’m not so good at!

I literally just did this a few nights ago. In doing so, I found some Korres Lip Butters, some tarte glosses, L’Oréal HiP loose pigments, and Kat von D loose pigments-everything unopened… I apparently forgot I had these, LOL! I had completely forgotten Kat von D did the pigments…

My daughter is starting the process of braces tomorrow, so I have a feeling I will be doing a lot of this over the next couple of years…

    • Isabella Muse

haha! It’s fun because sometimes I completely forget about stuff that came out! 😀 Awww good luck! Braces are never fun!

I actually do this daily because…well…looking at my makeup makes me happy lol. I also was looking through my palettes to kill my lemming for the Too Faced Peanut Butter Jelly palette everyone and their mothers are orgasmic about and found my (ironically) Too Faced a la mode palette, which I like better anyhow! 😉

    • Isabella Muse

haha likewise 🙂 And see? shopping the stash does kill lemmings!

All of 2016 because of my no-buy. I have all the Tarte TSV palettes from last year (same layout and size as the poppy picnic palette from last summer) and I forgot how much I really liked them. I am trying to hit pan of 5 products by the end of Spring… I’ve hit on one so far!

Love these question of the day type posts! I shopped my stash last weekend, which in turn, I tossed out ALL my : gasp!!: old drugstore lipsticks. There were more than 30. Eek! But they were old , funny smelling, not being used and taking up space. Then I rediscovered all my hi end blushes in the process and have started using them (hourglass , mood exposure ) love reading everyone’s responses! Xo

    • Isabella Muse

yay! I’m glad you enjoy these! 🙂 Oh gosh I should do that with my lipsticks! I haven’t “shopped” through them in a while 😀

  • Iris

I shopped my stash for a lip balm, which I used as a lipstick base. I’m trying to cut down on my makeup and beauty product spending and shopping my stash more, which is easier now with the Canadian dollar being so low.

I try to weekly, but I have it all over the place in the house. It’s fun .. like a MU hunt every so often. 🙂

  • Zovesta

I do it very often! Honestly, I like to peruse every makeup item I own almost every time I put on makeup…

  • Bonnie

Did this last night. I literally. have. a foundation. that. I. was. going. to. go. and. BUY!

But I already had it – and I have barely used it!! Only it was at the bottom of a train case, so I forgot all about it. So shopping my stash has shown me that a) I need help! and b) I don’t need to buy another item of makeup for all of 2016, so help me, I am keeping this resolution!!!! (PS the two lipsticks I ordered online before my stash review don’t count).

Every week. I now have a job that requires me to get up at the butt crack of dawn and I learned quickly that hunting through my makeup to find what I want ain’t gonna cut it at that hour. So I pick out a warm look and cool look for the week and put them in easy reach.
