Too Faced La Matte Lipsticks

Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick ($22) are a new Ulta exclusive matte version of the Too Faced La Creme Color Drenched Cream Lipstick. As a lover of the La Creme formula I was positive the La Matte formula would be just as amazing even if I’m not a fond fan of matte lipsticks.

The Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick is available in 10 shade selections and are an early Summer 2016 release of sorts that promise a formula that’s soft, pigmented, and non drying with a finish that promises not to feather or bleed.

Too Faced La Matte

One of the first things I noticed about the Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick was the beautiful packaging. These come in a gorgeous black box decorated with a gorgeous floral design that has a peacock, little birds, and a bunny adorning it. I instantly thought of Butter London’s packaging upon seeing this. I thought the illustrations were beautiful and a complete contrast to the solid black packaging of the actual lipstick. The La Creme formula comes in a gold barrel where as the La Matte comes in a black one with gold accents. It’s nice that the two have different packaging as you’ll know exactly which is matte and which is creme when storing them together.

The formula shares the same lemon sugary fragrance and flavor of the original but that’s where the similarities end. I actually don’t like the La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick texture or formula. I expected something much more creamy with a matte finish. These are actually thinner than I expected and hug lips lightly once applied which is a good thing because as promised they aren’t one for migrating, feathering, or bleeding.

However, they are a formula that require your lips are not dry or finely lined. They tend to accentuate dryness so you really want to have a smooth area to work on. Applying a lip primer or balm prior will help getting your the smoothest application possible. Color applies evenly but not as smoothly as I had hoped for. I just expected a bit more creamiest and these simply don’t have that consistency. Also I found if my lips were dry the color fell into my natural lip lines which means if you have finely lips you won’t have a smooth finish. The finish is without a doubt matte and is a hint drying but nothing terribly dry that proves irritating as the day progresses.. The promise moisture factor is most definitely not evident in this formula. I got a solid wear on both shades I tried of about five hours with some patchiness showing at hour five. Both shades I purchased had excellent color pay off.

Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick is a little bit of a disappointing release. As a brand that I consider perfected cream lipstick you’d expect them to do an incredible matte lipstick formula to follow up on the success of an already great formula. Unfortunately La Matte Lipstick is an uneventful matte lipstick. I expected something creamier, perhaps a bit more hydrating, with a smoother, better finish.

I have to say these weren’t all that great!

Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick are available now exclusively at Ulta.com and launch at Ulta stores around March 13.

Boo! Was hoping these would be as great as the La Creme! Both colors look very nice on you!

TF is late on their matte game with these! I feel this matte lippie trend is going to die down now, especially as summer is quickly approaching. Also looks like they got some packaging color inspo from UD.

How disappointing. I also thought TF would put out a great matte. Oh, well, at least the shades are pretty.

The boxes they come in are really gorgeous. But I can’t see me buying one just to have the box!!

I tried these at Ulta and my lips are not flaky at the moment and in decent condition. But my gosh , this lip product accentuates natural lip lines like nobody’s business. Definitely a pass for me, unfortunately. Your review was spot on for me ! 🙂
