Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist ($8) is a new lightweight primer mist that acts to prime, hydrate, and refresh skin with a coconut water-infused formula that promises 12 hours of moisture.

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist is one of many primer slash makeup setting sprays to launch this season. I find many of the formulas are one trick ponies and in this case I do believe that Hard Candy’s formula performs one particular task best and is a bit wishy-washy with the others.

Here’s the deal!

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist is a water and glycerin based formula which is exactly why it is so hydrating. Personally my dry skin loves it but I would avoid it if you have combination or oily skin as it does tend to make skin tacky and dewy to the touch which, in my opinion, is not something oily skin will love.

I typically mist this on prior to applying my moisturizer in both the AM and PM. It allows my moisturizer to absorb easily into my skin plus it provides plenty of moisture all its own. Honestly, if I wanted to I could easily get away with this as a lightweight moisturizer of sorts as it leaves my skin plush and dewy to the touch. I wouldn’t say it provided 12 straight hours of moisture but it did leave my skin feeling quite moist for a few hours after use.

I wouldn’t say it preps well for makeup without some leg work. I think misting it on and simply following up with makeup isn’t way the way to go because it leaves my skin a little too dewy and sticky. I typically apply it, followed by my moisturizer, and finally followed by face primer to curb the dewy finish it leaves behind before applying my foundation as a last step. Honestly, I prefer using it after my shower and letting it kinda dry down a bit before I even attempt putting anything else on top of it. The moisture benefits are here but they tend to be a bit sticky and dewy and might not be comfortable at all to those who don’t have drier skin.

As a refresher or a setting spray I’d say it was a no go. Using this after makeup or even in the day to freshen up makeup is a bad idea. It tends to leave me quite sticky and moist which results in a shiny, oily finish on my face even though I’m far from oily.

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Mist is a nice face mist but I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a primer or even a setting mist. It adds a ton of moisture but it also adds a good deal of dewiness and tackiness which isn’t always a great look for heading out in. If you’re looking for moisture this delivers but as I said it is a one trick pony!

I don’t understand all the sprays that claim to be primers, hydrating mists and also setting sprays all in one. Those are 3 different types of formulas, IMO.
Especially hydrating mist and setting spray BC I want something a little drying to set my makeup & keep oil at bay ,like I want it sealed in, but I want moisture and refreshing of my skin in a facial mist.

I’ve been using this as a setting spray, and I actually like it as such. It dries down quickly and leaves my makeup look flawless for at least 10 hours. I do set my foundation with powder, so maybe that’s why it works for me. I also tried Hard Candy’s other setting spray, but I found it to be kind of sticky. This and their brow ink have been my staples lately.

I fell the same way I’m a pro make up artist and I would put this coconut primer mist along with Hard Candy’s Fast & Fabulous Setting spray in the same category as Mac Fix+!

I will tag on as a fan of this primer/setting spray too!! I was surprised Muse did not feel it performed well as a good setting/refreshing mist. I think that might be because the sprayer is not as fine as, say a MAC Fix+. But the juice is great. I use it before, during & after. (FYI, my skin is combination). I primarily use BB cream & concealer (lots to correct) topped with mineral powder foundation. Hope it works well for others. Great budget discovery.

I’m glad you’re liking Bridget 😀 Yeah, it’s just a bit too drenching for me :-/ I prefer something much finer for setting!
