Beauty Survival: Meeting the Parents

Beauty Survival

It’s Sunday, you’re laying around in your pajamas binge watching Supernatural and eating a big bowl of Lucky Charms cereal with milk dribbling down your face because your mouth is hanging open as Dean just ripped off his shirt on screen.

Finally! We get to see some bare skin.

Note: In 11 seasons we only seen the J’s with their shirt off three times as far as I counted. Twice for Jared, once for Dean. Obviously our guys are shy.

Suddenly, your phone rings.

What the hell? Why is someone disturbing you during a binge watch?

It’s your boyfriend! Yay! But wait….WHAT? He 20 minutes away and his parents are with him! They want to meet you for the first time!

What do you use to get ready to meet his parents and how are you going to do it in 20 minutes time?

Shut the hell up how do you expect anyone to get ready in 20 minutes for a first time meet and greet with the rents?!

Good news this is purely fantasy.

BUT if you were in a situation where this was happening how would you handle the situation.

I admit I’d be stressed but I can totally pull together a no-nonsense look in like 5 minutes.

My look:

DONE!

See? I’m so ready to meet the parents plus I have 15 minutes to spare watching the rest of that Supernatural episode before they arrive.

How would you get ready super fast to meet his or her parents?

Do share!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. how do u get on all those products in 5 mins? you are my hero muse. lol.

I would use like 3 things and use up every minute of my available 20:
    1. mac brow fluidline in deep dark brunette (brows are a must)
    2. Sephora 12 hour liquid liner for that fierce cat eye
    3. nude stix lip and cheek pencil to add some color to my lips and cheeks. (or any tinted lippie that can double for cheeks and lips)
4……if I still have time left, I would slap on some mascara Neutrogena 3 in 1

and lets not forget you need to do something with hair and pick an outfit…
high ponytail and cute (conservative) sun dress with flats.

No way in hell I can do all this in 20 mins tho. lol.

    • Isabella Muse

lol! I have all of these in one place as I use them so often so I’d be slapping it on real quick ;-D hahaha! Well, I was thinking makeup but yeah, trying to find the outfit I’d need an extra 20 !

  • Brittany

    Wowowowow. Okay. Here goes:

UD Naked Skin One & Done all over — it’s AMAZING!
Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer under my eyes
Dab a little Benefit Benetint on my lips and cheeks
BROWS. Fill ’em in a bit with UD Brow Beater in Taupe
Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint for mascara — just a little, little bit
Swish a little Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer on my cheekbones and forehead

Phew. That was a close one.

    • Brittany

I think I’ve become such a pro at this easy look that I could do it in 10 or less. Maybe 5! That would leave me time to tackle my hair. Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray and Honest Company Detangler is all I need!

    • Isabella Muse

yay I agree loving the UD ;-D And you still have time to watch tv before they arrive lol!

  • Christina

Foundation, concealer, and blush! Done! I would grab whichever brands happen to be on my counter or the first thing to come out of my drawers, so most likely Edward Bess South of France, MAC Lightstroke, and some Japanese brand foundation.

Thank goodness I have been with my husband since we were 16 (going on 16 years together!) and don’t have to worry about meeting the parents anymore. LOL!

      • Christina

Aww, thanks! But I must clarify, 11 years dating, 5 years married. 🙂 But it feels like 16 years of marriage. Haha!

This is where my mass assortment of trial-size/beauty box deluxe samples comes in handy.

Face: Cover FX Anti-Acne Mattifying Primer, Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation
Under Eyes: Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer
Eyes: UD Anti-Aging Primer, Nudestix Gilt (all over lid), TheBalm Nude Dude single in Flirty (in the crease), Guerlain Maxi Lash
    Lips: NARS Rikugien pencil

    I’m ruddy-cheeked enough that blush isn’t a necessity, lol

    • Isabella Muse

haha! I love you have deluxe samples hanging around “Parents coming over, reach for deluxe samples, WINNING!”

      • Victoria A.

It really beats trying to decide between this palette or that! those big chubby pencils are a godsend when you’re pressed for time

  • lifeintheme

Heck, no! I’m sick, cough, cough! And BF is in BIG trouble for not telling me that the rents were coming!

  • Janessa

    I love these little surveys!

Face – It Cosmetics CC+ cream, set with Bye Bye pores
TooFaced Milk Chocolate bronzer, and I’ll dust a little through my crease
    Milani Luminoso blush
Makeup Geek Starry Eyed on the lid for a little glimmer OR MAC Costa Riche smudged on upper and lower lash line
    Benefit Gimme Brow
    TooFaced Better Than Sex mascara

(this is also my go-to look on days I’m running late to work. I have a ton of practice and can complete it in 15-20 mins 🙂 )

    Fun question! Let’s see..
    – spritz with Smashbox primer water
    – apply some BareMinerals BareSkin complete coverage serum concealer on my problem areas (chin, around my nose, between my brows, right under eyes) and blend with my elf studio stipple brush
    – set whole face with mac msf natural
    – warm up face with bronzer – whichever’s closest! loving the physician’s formula butter bronzer, or my trusty milk chocolate soleil
    – kiko extra sculpt volume mascara. makes me look like i’ve got falsies on!
    – a bit of tinted fresh sugar lip treatment, i love the nude one

    good to go!

  • Kitten

Tinted moisturizer and mascara and I’d be just fine, mayyybe tightline if I really feel like it, and a light swipe of lipstick :]

  • Claire L

Haha, great ‘scenario’! I’d do this:
    1. Laura Mercier Radiance primer
    2. Max Factor Miracle Match foundation, it blurs and nourishes.
    3. Collection Lasting Perfection concealer
    4. Zoeva En Taupe palette on my eyelids
    5. Max Factor Masterpiece waterproof mascara in black
    6. Arrow lip balm (changes colour with your pH)
    7. Blusher and highlighter from Bareminerals The Royal Court cheek trio palette. I use this all the time!

A nice easy, natural look and I’m done!

  • Zovesta

bareMinerals concealer & pressed powder foundation
    NYX brow gel
    KOCO mascara
ULTA weightless lipstick in a fairly nude shade

Five minute routine, time to pick up the house! =x

  • charlie

hahaha 20 mins is not enough for me. I would just fake a spreadable illness. Done.

  • Lauren

Oh Muse, it’s been years since I’ve had to worry about this XD

-Dry shampoo would solve like three of my getting ready problems, plus a squirt or two of Marc Jacobs honey perfume.
-Whichever face primer is handy at the moment, but definitely the smashbox eyeshadow primer for my lids. Fights creasing and keeps my brow pencil in place.
    – Concealer on the rough spots, probably Tarte rainforest of the sea or Nars radiant creamy concealer.
-Set the whole shebang with Nars crystal powder.
-Mac veluxe brow pencil in strawberry blonde with a clear brow gel to keep them in line.
    -Tarte lights camera lashes mascara
    – Nars sex appeal blush or Tarte exposed
-Probably Dior addict lip glow or Marc Jacobs rebel rebel gloss

    Bam! Done 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

haha it’s ok you still rounded that up damn well Lauren <3!

  • Shisha Birmingham

    Here goes,
    – IT cosmetics bye bye pores micro powder (it evens out my skintone, blurs my bores and gives me a subtle glow)
    – ABH illuminator in so hollywood on my luids for a little sheen
    – L’oreal voluminous intenza mascara
    – Spoolie to brush my brows into place
    – Any pink lipgloss or tinted lip balm (whichever i grab first)

  • Devon

I have had a note in my phone with my HG look for times like these! (or the multiple occasions there was a small chance I would be at a party with the ex gf of my bf! we’ve been together 4 years but still!)
    UD one and done (agree–amazing!)
Tarte DD powder foundation to powder
UD Naked Skin conceale under eyes and on spots
Wet N Wild blush in Pink Champagne
    Chanel cream shadow (moonstone?)
    NYX dk brown liner
    Blinc Amplified mascara
UD Gwen Stefani lipstickin Ex Girlfriend

Hair in a french twist (easy way–pull hair into a low pony w/o actually putting a tie on it. take other hand and hook 1-2 fingers around the base of the pony and begin to twist and continue twisting up. you will get your hair into a french twist w a loop at the top. tuck or wrap ends if there are any and use a big barrette to pin the loop at top. classy!)

To be honest if it’s Sunday and I haven’t worked all weekend I probably didn’t shower, so hop in the shower, won’t wash the hair but i’ll use dry shampoo and up in a ponytail.
I can do my face pretty quickly: whatever primer, Nars Sheer Glow foundation, highlight (been using wet and wild Mega Glo lately, the light pink shade, so pretty and only $2!), then setting spray (also wet and wild in the white bottle). Can’t bother with filling in the brows cause I’m too much of a perfectionist so I’ll just run a spoolie through them, then Covergirl clump crusher mascara on the lashes! Done!
