Buxom Wildly Whipped Soft Matte Lip Color Review & Swatches
Buxom Wildly Whipped Soft Matte Lip Color ($21) is a new whipped liquid lipstick formula with a lightweight, matte finish that’s available in 12 shade selections. As a hater of long-lasting liquid lipsticks, I was curious about the Wildly Whipped Soft Matte Lip Color formula and hopeful it would be as moisturizing as it promised! In most cases, though, these liquid lipsticks are like vampires but instead of sucking blood they suck the moisture right from your lips.
So away I went and purchased one of these to try out!
Buxom Wildly Whipped Soft Matte Lip Color comes housed in a sexy little ombre barrel that holds 0.16 oz of product. I like the packaging; it looks like a chubbier version of the Buxom Lipgloss barrel with slicker packaging.
I think this formula will prove very disappointing for those who do enjoy liquid lipsticks as like Tarte’s new Tarteist Lip Paint these are not a bulletproof, eat through, drink through, long wearing formula. And you know what? I’m fine with that. I don’t want my lipstick to wear 24 hours straight nor do I want it hanging around until I remove it. I don’t mind reapplying it if I need to.
Buxom’s formula wears for a nice five hour period but it isn’t transfer resistant nor is it a formula that will remain locked on until you take it off. And again, I’m fine with that! These have a light, whipped texture as promised. They almost feel like butter gliding on my lips, and I had no issues with the formula clinging to drier areas on my lips nor did the color fall into my natural lip lines. The finish is soft, smooth, and matte but not moisture soul-sucking dry! The formula actually feels lightly hydrating on my lips which is such a rarity in the matte liquid lipstick world. The color I choose was Centerfold, which is a warm a nude. It was quite pigmented and opaque on a single pass with no flavor or fragrance that I detected.
As I said, the formula does wear for five hours but during that time the color does separate. At around hour three it tends to migrate away from the center of my lips and fades away, so it almost looks like I have a thicker lip liner around my lips but no color is filling the center. I can run my finger across my lips to blend and freshen the color up but I don’t really love touching my lips with my finger unless I’ve washed them first. I, wouldn’t say the color feathers nor does it migrate outside of my lip line but as explained there was separation of color, and the color intensity fades considerably after the three-hour mark. Carrying around a lip brush will help as you can quickly run it across your lips to freshen up the lip color easily enough which will get you another two hours of wear. Personally, it’s just easier to wipe it off and start fresh by this time. But if you can’t, a lip brush might be a good option!
I thought formula was quite a refreshing change from all the hardcore long lasting liquid lip colors we are seeing at the moment. I liked this formula well enough but wish it remained a little fresher longer but someone who dislikes drier mattes this was quite a nice change as the formula did not such moisture from my lips and wore very comfortably without drying my lips out!
You don’t need to go out and haul all the shades in this collection, but one or two might be nice to have around for a quick, lightweight matte lip look!
