More Cushion Makeup Trending with the Sephora Wonderful Cushion Matte Lip Cream
Sephora Wonderful Cushion Matte Lip Cream ($8) is a new matte liquid lipstick with a cushion-y applicator that recently launched for Summer 2016 in four shade selections. Sephora is all about cushion makeup lately! Cushion bronzer, cushion foundation, cushion eyeliner, you name it and Sephora apparently is going to launch it in a cushion packaging of some kind.
And why not?
Cushion makeup is the latest craze to reach the US from Korea (a little late but hey, better late than never at all)!
Here’s a look at the formula!
Sephora Wonderful Cushion Matte Lip Cream actually launched these a week before Sephora US had them. This surprised me as I it was an unexpected delight to get them as quickly as Europe did! I was expecting to either not get them at all or get them at a later date. Thanks to my lovely reader Clémence who was gun-ho to get them for me if I couldn’t get them here in the US. Thankfully I didn’t have to have run across Europe for them as we got them just as quickly but sadly, lacking shades as Sephora France does have a wider selection of shades.
This is actually a shea butter enriched matte cream lipstick or I would personally call it a stain of sorts. It’s actually supposed to give a just-bitten look with a high color pay off. Personally, for me, you do kind of get a chapped kissed look but the effect would be nicer if the colors weren’t so neon and bright. A dusky rose or a red would be better suited to get that just kissed look. But Sephora released these in very bright purples, pinks, and fuchsias.
The “cushion” that’s referenced in the name would be the applicator which has a soft, rubber-y texture that’s very soft and pleasant to use. The lip cream comes housed in a 0.0304 oz tube which can be squeezed to release the color into the attached cushion-y applicator. It’s not a slanted applicator but rounded which concerned me as I was worried it would be messy to apply. But it applied perfectly and hugged my lips nicely! The color is very rich and pigmented with a super matte finish that wasn’t drying nor hydrating. I can get about four hours of wear from this formula. I thought application was great! I’m prone to drier lips but the color didn’t apply patch or uneven and it didn’t adhere to dryness on my lips nor did it fall into my natural lip lines.
It’s a weird kind of formula as it hugs lips in a way that looks like a matte lip stain of sorts versus a creamy lipstick or lip cream as they call it. It’s creamy in consistency yet it applies thin and feather light on lips. It does have a light fruity flavor of sorts that disappears fairly quick once applied.
I’d like this formula a lot more if the colors were a little more wearable. I got the shade Wonderful Rosy which is one of the lightest shade and it didn’t quite look right on my skin tone and I fear the other shades won’t either. I wish the colors were a little more wearable. A bright, red shade in this formula would be incredible.
All in all, Sephora Wonderful Cushion Matte Lip Cream had a great texture, formula, wear, and color pay off! I just wish the colors were a little more wearable for my skin tone but none the less these are a cute little offering from Sephora with a very easy to wear matte finish formula.
