Julep Bare Face Cleansing Balm Stick

Stick cleansers have arrived! I never thought I’d say that. Julep Bare Face Cleansing Balm Stick is a new (and exciting?!) way to clean your face. Julep’s cleansing stick removes dirt, oil, and other impurities while gently exfoliating your face with a formula that contains rose hip seed oil, rice bran oil, grapefruit peel oil, camellia japonica seed oil, and pomegranate fruit enzyme.

Simply wet your hands, swipe the stick across a few times, and massage over your face!

Interesting right?

Aside from curiosity I’m not really sure how to feel about a cleansing stick! Although the idea isn’t necessarily new since we were recently introduced to Boscia Charcoal Deep-Pore Cleansing Stick Treatment.

I find myself mentally curling my nose up because it feels somehow messy to use a stick to cleanse your face. It also seems like a breeding ground for bacteria. But hey, I’m still sitting here being all curious about a stick cleanser.

What do you think?

The Julep Bare Face Cleansing Balm Stick is packed up with a Kaolin Clay Konjac Sponge for $32 on qvc.com.

Hrm, then do you rinse it off when you are done? I’m intrigued. I mean it sounds like it would be great for travel with nothing to leak.

    • Isabella Muse

Agreed! Plus TSA wouldn’t give you a prob about it but yeah, I guess you rinse it off afterwards?

  • Dee

I’m thinking the same as you! Might be a good travel item as it wouldn’t need to be in the quart size bag, but still seems kinda ick.

    • Isabella Muse

I was thinking that. Great for travel as it won’t be messy and it is easy to store but kind of gross too!?

I have the Sum:37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick and it’s great! Worth checking out. It has rose petals in the stick.

I have the one from Boscia and it is a little strange to work with. At first I was worried about the ick factor but since I’m the only one using it, I got over it. For the Boscia version you’re supposed to swipe it all over your face straight from the stick. Um, no. It doesn’t work like that. It just slimes all over and makes a mess. I have to scrape my finger across it to gather up the product and then rub it in. Which kinda defeats the purpose of the convenience of applying directly from the stick. But I like the performance so much I’m on my third one. I’m loving the concept of these stick cleansers but maybe the execution needs a little improvement before they become the next best thing.

I will say they are perfect for travel…..for the reasons mentioned in other comments.

thanks Deb! Was curious how the Boscia one was. I thought maybe things would get gross, messy, and a bit slimy if I applied directly on my face. Julep suggests applying it to your hands and proceeding to follow up your face. That seems like a better solution!

You might like the Boscia one Muse…..if you can tolerate the things I mentioned. I have to admit that I wanted it at first strictly for the novelty of being able to apply it from the stick director lay into your face. Dunno why I was so intrigued by the novelty but there you have it. I know you worry about the drying effects of charcoal and exfoliating too much. But I gotta tell you, that hasn’t been an issue for me with this product. And from reading your blog, we have the exact same skin type. I use this almost every day in the shower and I’ve gotten kinda addicted to it. And it does not dry me out or irritate. It just works for me. A note of caution: I tried it at the sink. Big mistake. Huge. Had gray water everywhere. I highly recommend only using it in the shower.

Thanks Deb! I was just typing “is it drying” as I read your comment but I see you addressed that already 😀 I’m going to give it a whirl, you have me curious!

I recently recd this stick in my Julep box. I use it with my Kojac sponge. I have not seen any lather but it does make my face clean. My skin feels tight and dry afterward, but then I have never found a cleanser that doesn’t.

    • Isabella Muse

Oh I’m glad you mentioned the tightness! I’ll skip! Def don’t need more dry skin!

If your skin feels drub& tight after cleansing, you should definitely find a new ckeanser! I too used to think this unavoidable but it’s not, & there ARE better options. I have several favorites but one especially great one is Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Cleanser; I also LOVE their Skin Recovery toner, which is truly heaven for any degree of dry skin. Maybe get samples of both to try?

I really like the Su:m 37 Miracle Rose Cleanser stick for travel. My skin is quite sensitive but this doesn’t bother it even though it “should”. In a way,it is just soap in a tube. (h/t to my husband for that observation)Plus, I do enjoy making the circles on my face with it 😉

I use mine with my clarisonic, and it’s great. I love it. It’s no different than a bar of soap in terms of ick factor.

Years ago, Jane Cosmetics had a skin care line, and I remember they had a stick cleanser that was really neat. Mostly because I was a teenager and it smelled good. It was really easy to use since it’s basically just a bar of soap in a little twist up container.
