Too Faced Totally Cute Palette Review & Swatches
I purchased the Too Faced Totally Cute Eyeshadow Palette ($36) that recently launched with Too Faced Fall 2016 Collection. I have to admit the Totally Cute Palette is totally bogus. This eyeshadow palette comes in a pink compact that simply reads “Too Faced” across the front. But wait, there’s more! It comes with stickers, yes stickers, that you can use to decorate the palette with.
This is where things get a bit juvenile and childish! I should explain myself a little more before I call anything immature. I’m a lover of anything and everything cute. I remember when the Sephora Hello Kitty launched and I squealed my way through tons of posts about it. I became rather defensive when someone commented and said I was being childish and it was stupid that I wanted to carry around a Hello Kitty Compact. I get it! Not everyone is a child at heart and not everyone loves cutesy makeup. That’s me though. The cuter my makeup packaging is, the happier I am! Too Faced has always been very cute in packaging and most recently things have seem to gotten even cuter with the launch of the Peanut Butter and Jelly Eyeshadow Palette as well as the Sweet Peach one. But it seems like the Totally Cute Palette jumps the shark a little bit!
I guess there’s a line to be drawn when it comes to too much cuteness! Sitting down and decorating my palette with stickers feels a little too childish to me. And dare I say, a bit of a waste of time as well. Too Faced includes not one, not two, but three sheets of stickers with the palette. Mind you, you’ll never be able to use all of these! I ended up decorating the palette for this review and I purchased the palette for the same reason. All in all it isn’t something I’d have purchased if I didn’t get requests to review it. Not only is the color selection one I didn’t like but also the entire sticker thing just threw me for a curve ball.
But, I’ll admit, I had some minor fun decorating the palette. Once you start getting into it, it’s rather fun. I was worried the palette would look stupid or kitschy after I was done. But the stickers actually looked good and rather seamless with the pink background of the compact. Will they last through uses? I’m not sure. Right now they are fine but will daily use you might notice peeling! But hey, you have three entire sheets so, you can always start over if they do peel off. I tucked the extra ones into my planner as they might see better use there!
I should say, the stickers aren’t really something you absolutely need to take advantage of. If the eyeshadow shades in the Totally Cute Palette are your thing but the packaging is silly to you. No problem! Just don’t bother with the stickers. The actual compact is a simple pink and perfect for minimalists!
But now that we chatted packaging, let’s talk contents!
The Too Faced Totally Cute Palette includes nine eyeshadow shades as well as a get the look guide with instructions to create three looks. The palette feels a little lighter and looks a little smaller than past palettes but it still holds the exact same amount as past palette (3 Eyeshadows at 0.07 ox and 6 Eyeshadows at 0.03 oz).
Shades include:
- Double Scoop (matte vanilla malt)
- Shooting Star (shimmering nude)
- Unicorn (pearl pink)
- Bunny Fu-Fu (matte pumpkin spice)
- Chocolate Donut (matte dark brown)
- Clover (golden green pearl)
- Storm Cloud (blackened peacock)
- I <3 TF (bubblegum pink with silver sparkle)
- Meow! (deep amethyst)
It’s a pretty standard round up of shades from Too Faced that can be easily duplicated across past eyeshadow palettes or even single shades that Too Faced has done in the past. It also happens to be a mismatch of shades that seem to have been chosen to compliment the “fun” palette. It’s weird seeing such a jumble of warm, cool, and vibrant shades all in one place. I’m a little obsessive compulsive with my makeup and the mismatch of shades have no rhythm or reason to me. I kind of look at it and think, “Oh god mud!” But actually, you can get some pretty good looks from these shades. The eyeshadow shades are broken into three looks which are called Ice Cream Cutie, Lucky Girl, and Totally Cute. Below I’m wearing the Lucky Girl look using the shades Shooting Star, Clover, and Storm Cloud.
The shades are very soft, with a velvety texture with some fall out during application. I had some issues blending Meow as it was a bit patchy but aside from that the other shades were smooth and buttery with an excellent pigmentation, good application, and easy blending!
The Too Faced Totally Cute Palette is a bit mismatched in color selection and the shades can be easily duped if you collect Too Faced Palettes. However, the quality is here and the 99% the eyeshadows had an excellent formula. You’re either going to love or hate the packaging but the good news is the stickers are completely optional so, if the palette is appealing you can toss the stickers, gift them, or use them in your planner.
My main issue with the palette was the fact it was a round up colors I’d likely not use. I loved Gunny Fu-Fu and Chocolate Donut as well as Double Scoop which was a great blending shades and highbrow highlighter. I also adored Clover which was a beautiful green! But the other shades aren’t something I’d likely use often enough to warrant the $36 splurge.
However, if you like these colors, I’d say go for it because the quality and performance is quite good across the board.
Too Faced Totally Cute Palette is available now at Sephora.com as well as at TooFaced.com.
