Tis the Season for Gel Moisturizer

gel moisturizers

Summer is here. Well, kind of. If you live in New York chances are you’re not having much of a Summer at all. I won’t bother you with the details but just know the weather is all the sucks. On that note, I have hopes it’ll warm up soon and you know what that means right? Tis the season for Gel Moisturizer!

I’m sure many of you are likely switching over your skincare at the moment. Perhaps your higher SPFs come out to play and your richer moisturizers are replaced with lighter ones or perhaps you lighten up completely on your skincare because let’s face it no one wants to wear heavy skincare in the heat and the humidity.

Typically, around this time of the year I tend to rely more heavily on gel moisturizers! Gel moisturizers absorb so easily and leave behind a nice hydrated finish on skin without being too oily or creating unnecessary shine. They also wear wonderfully under foundation and other makeup. And let’s not forget how wonderful light they are for oily skin users!

Here’s some great gel moisturizer picks for the Summer from both the US and Korea.

Garnier Moisture Rescue Refresh Gel Cream (Review)
Garnier’s Refresh Gel Cream has been a fond favorite of mine since it launched in 2010. It was one of the very first gel moisturizers to hit the drugstore market and was a popular pick thanks to its quick absorbing, lightweight formula that was cool, refreshing, and hydrating!

Garnier SkinActive Ultra-Lift Miracle Wake-Up Anti-Fatigue Day Cream (Review)
Garnier hits it out of the park this year with the launch of their new gel moisturizer! This quick absorbing formula hydrates and retains moisture without creasing shine or oily and wears like a boss under makeup! The weightless texture makes it an ideal pick for the Summer heat!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel
Neutrogena’s formula not only moisturizers it also continuously hydrates throughout the day which results in smoother, softer skin! The lightweight texture and quick absorbing formula make it a great pick for the warm weather!

Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb (Review)
As long as Belif continues to create highly moisturizing products I’m there. I would actually suggest as more of a night cream as this gel cream is quick to absorb but highly moisturizing so, it might prove too much for daily use. But a dab will serve you well should you wish to wear it during the Summer!

Philosophy Take a Deep Breath Oil-Free Oxygenating Gel Cream
Philosophy’s oil-free moisturizer is an oxygen infused formula that helps to protect skin and leave it healthy and smooth while absorb easily and wearing lightly in those warm, humid days!

Etude House Watermelon or Aloe Soothing Gel
Etude House’s new soothing gels were created with drier skin in mind and can be used on your face or your body. Smooth them on your skin to quickly hydrate without adding shine, use them as a cooling eye pack under your eyes by patting the gel gently under your eyes or saturating a cotton pad and placing under eyes, use them as a shaving gel for a refreshing, moisturizing shave. There multitask at just about anything you can think of but most important the gel is quick to absorb and hydrate skin quickly!

The Saem Horse Oil Soothing Gel Cream
This lightweight gel moisturizer not only absorbs easily and wears weightlessly but also creates a hydrating barrier around skin so it remains moist all day without creating shine or oiliness.

Skinfood Lettuce & Cucumber Watery Cream (Review)
Soothing, incredibly lightweight, and wears well under makeup this gel moisturizer is perfect if you have oily skin and don’t want to clog pores with a richer moisturizer! And hey, if you’re dry? It’s a treat for hot Summer days too!

Beyond Alice in Blooming Aqua Cream
Yes, that’s our beloved Alice from Wonderland! Beyond did an entire makeup and beauty collection that releases in Korea inspired by Alice and the Blooming Aqua Cream is just one of the releases from it. This smooth, non-sticky gel cream smells lovely and applies like a dream with a formula that retains moisture but never makes skin tacky, shiny, or oily!

I love both Garnier products and use them daily!! Such wonderful gems at the drugstore 🙂

I’m looking for some SPF to wear under my moisturizer too, and I don’t care if it’s high end of drugstore! Do you have any recommendation?

  • EliCaroline

I am a gel moisturizer convert. I received a deluxe sample at Sephora of the Belif Aqua Bomb and feel in love. I’ll be picking it up again. At the moment I am trying the Neutrogena gel-cream one and it’s pretty good too.

I think I would keep those aloe and watermelon gels in the fridge, then apply , so refreshing!

Am I correct in reading this post that none of these have SPF’s? I am looking for a lightweight gel moisturizer with SPF. Any suggestions?

    • Isabella Muse

I really don’t know any with SPF sadly aside from the new Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel which has a low SPF 15 :-/ I typically apply sunscreen before gel moisturizers. Sorry! 🙁

Thank you for the suggestion! I missed the part about the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel. Appreciate it 🙂
