Looks Like It’s Going To Be a Strobing Holiday Makeup Season

holiday makeup highlighters

July is on the way which means many makeup and beauty brands are going to start holding events to introduce their Holiday 2016 Makeup and Beauty Collections. So yeah, you might not be ready for that! I know I’m not but the fact of the matter is you’ll likely be hearing about Fall 2016 very, very soon! Sephora recently had an in store Fall 2016 Preview. And already Too Faced Fall 2016 and Urban Decay Fall 2016 has been leaked across Instagram from a variety of different people like Wende Zomnir and Jerrod Blandino. Soon after Fall, the Holidays 2016 Collections will be right in your face.

One of the biggest trends (that never ever wants to go away) you’ll be seeing with Holiday 2016 Makeup Collection is highlighters. Highlighters have long since been a quintessential part of makeup collections for the Holidays. It’s a given to see brands like Guerlain, Lancome, and Estee Lauder to create at least one shimmering, sparkly limited edition highlighting powder for the Holiday season.

However, this year I think highlighters are going to be a very major player!

Stila is launching a strobing palette for Holiday 2016 which contains a trio three different baked highlighter as well as several other brands I know of. I have to admit I’ve collected many, many pretty highlighters across the years during the Holiday season! But I’m honestly not sure I’m ready to bombarded with an array of palettes dedicated to strobing!

It’s such a trend I haven’t fully embraced myself. I always feel like highlighters put a spotlight on my chubby cheeks and rounder face! Booo! But, of course, I envy those of you that highlight like a boss.

What do you think of the strobing trend for the Holidays?

Excited about new highlighting palettes from your favorite brands for the Holidays?

Or are you pretty much done with the contouring and strobing trend?

Do share!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I’m definitely over the ultracontoured, Instagram look because it looks amazing onstage and on Insta, but is generally truly terrible IRL. But, highlighter is something I’m not mad at for sticking around because (usually) it’s a pretty flattering look in person as long as you use a light hand. I’ve pretty much always used highlighter in my 25+ years of wearing makeup so I don’t really see it as a trend per se, though. I just wish the heavy sculpting look would go away!!!

I agree completely. I think it looks amazing in photos, I think it looks great on Instagram, but in real life? No. Or at least I can’t pull it off in real life because I end up looking like a plastic barbie doll with all that on!

Have you seen the Youtube tutorials with people just using highlighter on their entire face? OMG its absolutely as ridiculous as it sounds. And they’re serious! I love me some pretty glow but enough already. How about some new blush shades or good mascara formulas or something?

    • Isabella Muse

YES! haha! I can’t! Some people rock it though and they actually look awesome but not sure if you’re going to head into the office with that on haha!

    • Elena

Wait what? I thought they were all just joking and doing a fun challenge. They can’t be serious with all that highlighter!

I’m a highligher bully, and a SUCKER for a pretty glow… A few weeks ago I got a Jeffree Starr Skin Frost, the Becca X JHill highlight palette and the Laura Gellar peach swirl highlighter thingy. IN ONE WEEK. If this holiday season is going to be the season of highlighters, I’m screwed.

    • Isabella Muse

LOL! Did you get the peach Skin Frost? I kind of want it but at the same time I’m scared of it!

      • Janessa

I did!! I’m pretty light skinned, not quite fair, but white girl LOL and I’ve been using it as a blush topper. Its GORGEOUS. You NEED it. It’s a smidge more intense than the peach swirl Laura Geller one. I actually go in with the peach swirl as a highlight on top of the skin frost. Because I’m excessive ;D

    • Zoey

Janessa, which color did you get of the Jeffree Star Skin Frost? I’ve been trying to find someone who can tell me how it compares to Becca Pressed in Pearl!

      • Janessa

I got the Peach Goddess one. I knew the Ice one would be wayyy too light for me so I skipped it.

I’m not so much into the heavy contouring, but I do like strobing. Storbing works well with my fair skin.

  • Devon

if there are less eyeshadow palettes i will be definitely happier..i can say no to contouring and strobing palettes easily, but shadows are the death of me!!

  • Lori

All that contouring/strobing/whatever…blah. I’m so over it. Heck, I never got into it! And I hate those videos on Instagram that go from bare face to completely contoured, highlighted, foundation, concealer, blush…they’re usually three shades away from the skin color they started with! So unnecessary, unattainable, and ridiculous! And it doesn’t make me want to buy those products either.
So no…I’m not excited about a very merry strobing holiday lol.

    • Isabella Muse

haha I’m not much of a highlighter fan either don’t worry 😀

I like to use highlighters as eye shadows, so I’m up for seeing lots of new choices come the holidays — half a year from now!!
