Lost But Never Found Makeup and Beauty

Last night I went to see Hardwick. I’m a self confessed Nerdist hater. I’m a fan girl, I get it, totally but Chris Hardwick just takes fanboying to such a high level that can be excruciating annoying at times. So, going to see him in concert was equivalent to root canal for me but I did it for someone I dearly love who adores him.

And I was surprised!

He’s actually quite funny and he didn’t really fanboy out during the entire 90 minute show. I expected to come out with a headache but I came out grinning. He did this rather great rendition of Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead or Alive or as he called it Bane Jovi so, yeah, you can guess the entire thing was done in Bane’s brilliant voice. It was…funny! I laughed 🙂

Anyway, the moral of the story is I was a bit tired this morning as between the late night plus work plus a lot of stuff I had planned for Monday night plus I’m still try to shake off my Governors Ball weekend (is it bad to say I was glad Sunday was cancelled and I could just do my normal brunch and shop with friends that day!?), I’m kind of dragging about in a fog this week and trying to unsuccessfully shake it off.

But I’m not so tired I’m applying lipgloss as eyeshadow I promise. I am tired enough to lose things though. This morning I wanted to wear my beloved By Rosie Jane Leila Lou Perfume.

If you haven’t smelled it I highly recommend doing so! Leila Lou is just so beautiful! It’s a fresh fragrance with notes of pear, jasmine, and fresh-cut grass. To me, it’s a very fruity floral with a bit of tartness. The jasmine is barely smelled but the juicy, tart note of pear combined with the fresh green grass makes for a gorgeous Summer-y fragrance treat!

This morning I decided I needed to wear it. The weather is perfect for it. Not too cold, not too warm…it’s a really nice day in Gotham! I don’t about later as rain is expected but for now we got blue skies, a cool, slight breeze, and absolutely no humidity with a touch of sun. Perfect Leila Lou weather!

Sadly, I could not find it. Now, I have a lot of fragrances. It’s one of my many passions in life. And I tend to organize them very well as I not only like to display them but also store them in a way that they won’t spoil when not in use. This means I rotate often what I keep on my vanity and the rest are tucked into a cool, dark place. Leila Lou should have been on my vanity today but I looked and looked and looked and even dug around in my fragrance closet and I could not find it. It just disappeared, up in smoke! No idea where it went. I’m actually antsy to get home tonight and look around to see if I find it.

I truly believe I have some sort of makeup and beauty vortex in my house or maybe a Doctor Who style crack in the wall where loss makeup and beauty goes to live. There are times I loose some of my favorite products and they are never, ever to be found again. Where do they go!?!

Have you every done this?

Misplaced something and never found it again?

Is your stash so larger that loss makeup is sucked into the vortex?

What have you lost recently?

Do share!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Sometime when I was packing up my classroom for last summer I managed to lose my favorite lip balm (the Jane Iredale color-changing one in pink). I was absolutely convinced that I’d find it as I unpacked and set up in August so I didn’t replace it (only $24-ish but we all know teachers are poor and there were lots of other pretty things at the stores). Well, here it is, another school year later and still no Jane Iredale! I even had my dear custodian helping me keep an eye out for it with its distinctive silver case but no dice. I suppose I will eventually replace it but it drives me nuts to not know where/how I managed to lose it in that room!!!

    • Isabella Muse

That’s me. It’s not so much about having to replace it, I’ll buy another one, that’s ok! BUT it’ll drive me crazy wondering where the item went to begin with!!!!!!!!!! Plus I’ll be all like, Damn I could have brought something else instead of this as I know I have it already but WHERE the hell is it!

I’ve lost or misplaced things before. Sometimes it’ll turn up in a couch cushion or under the coffee table, if I’m lucky, but there are lipsticks and lip balms that have disappeared, seemingly forever. I suspect one of our cats decided it would be a fine toy and, well, if you have cats, you know how they can make things disappear. (Where did the 85,000 toy mice I’ve bought over the years go to?)

    • Isabella Muse

haha! Honestly, my cat is pretty good and doesn’t touch my stuff. But yes, things just disappear and they never turn up!? There’s a like of WTF moments in my home!

    • LS

That reminds me of when the stove was repaired in our apartment. The maintenance man was kind enough to sweep up underneath the range while he had it out. I came home to a pile of dozens of toy mice in the middle of the kitchen floor.

TL;DR They cat toys are all under the range.

My Lorac Unzipped palette… I have looked and looked everywhere for it. I didn’t travel with it. I always put my palettes back in their bin after I use them and I’ve since gone through the bin 3x hoping it just might pop up. I’m gonna end up breaking down and replacing it pretty quick here. And then I’ll find the lost one and have a backup for the next time it decides to walk out on me 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

haha this post was inspired by our chat about that Janessa!

Last time I moved I lost all three tubes of my favorite hand exfoliate that used to be made by mark. cosmetics (Avon) . Not expensive but a major bummer!

Omg this recently happened to me with a lipstick. It’s the most annoying thing ever not to be able to find it! Sure I have 10000 other lipsticks. But the OCD part of me cannot let it go; i. Must. Find. It!!!!!! I searched High and low for the lipstick and it irks me to no end when I can’t find it!

Same thing happened to me as Rachel mentioned above, but it was at work. I distinctly remember putting my brand new Fresh sugar lip balm in a drawer . Next day, it was gone. I looked everywhere, asked everyone, looked in the garbage. I’m pretty sure someone helped themselves to my lipbalm, which is kind of disturbing actually. Same thing at this same job with a b&bw lotion. I left it on the top shelf of a closet hidden , then it went missing. … and i looked and looked and looked.. then somehow, the next day it magically appeared again in the same spot i had left it after I made a PSA at work like “um, yeah my lotion has disappeared, guys ! “

Fresh Sugar Rose lip balms. I have so many since they always come in sets or as promos from Sephora. I hate having to open another one because I know I opened one not too long ago, but I can never seem to find the open one. I’m not sure if I’ve ever actually finished one up. Another things is a pair of sunglasses. They were perfect- trendy style, looked good on me, comfortable. I was cleaning back in January when that big snowstorm was coming our way, just in case the electric went out or something. And afterwards I couldn’t find them. I’ve looked everywhere and they’ve vanished. I’m so picky about sunglasses that I can’t seem to find another pair I like as much. Five months later and I still look through stuff hoping they’ll pop up.

A couple of weeks ago you were talking about the Nars Orgasm blush. And I thought, yeah, I haven’t used that in awhile, I’m going to get it out and use it. Well I can’t find it! But I own it and I know it’s there somewhere but right now I’m just too lazy to remove everything from my cabinet and really look for it. So yeah, we’ve all been there.

Also, I absolutely love Chris Hardwick. I tell my kids everytime I see him on TV: “There’s your new future stepfather!” 😉

    • Isabella Muse

lol carol my mom calls him her “boyfriend” lol! 😀 I actually can’t stand him, he annoys the hell out of me lol!

I got a pair of sunglasses for my birthday in November…took my daughter to a Flyers game in February. My sunglasses got lost under my seat at Wells Fargo. I didn’t realize it til we were in the car 🙁

For me, it’s my first digital camera. I remember falling asleep on the couch and tucking it under the couch cushion because the furniture was going to be moved around the next day as my uncle was having new windows installed at the time; and the new semester was starting. I remember leaving the camera under the cushion (to hide it, i guess). The window installers came and gone, the furniture was moved back and NO CAMERA! i didnt even realize it until i was a month or two into the semester! I searched everywhere throughout the house, putting my hands into the couch cushion grooves-nada! To this day, i still wonder where my camera went!

  • kellly

Mine definitely gets sucked into the vortex. (That was too funny!) It just … disappears. Sometimes I can stage a major search evening and turn things up, but sometimes even with major searching, it’s just … gone. I hate it when that happens.

    • Isabella Muse

lol! Seriously, all our loss makeup is hanging out together somewhere I just know it!

  • Jeanine McAuliffe

Weird comment ahead… I seriously wish we were besties so I could have access to your perfume closet and your makeup and skincare collection. I can only imagine how much you must have! Ok I’m done being weird and stalkerish ….FOR NOW! 😉

  • Michelle Maffia

Thank you for your confession! I thought I was the only one! My “losses” usually come after a organization high! Damn you Pinterest! We should start a support group stat or search party protocol!

I am well versed into forgetting where I have put my glasses – which is very sad because I can’t see to find them and have enlist my family……
I know this sounds funny Isabella, but you have to pray to St. Anthony (the patron saint of lost things) and do a good deed and then you will find your perfume. This always works for me.

    • Isabella Muse

lol yes you sound like my mom! She always does a little prayer to St Anthony when she loses something 😀

  • lara / the glossarie.
