I want to say that Laura Geller Spackle was the first real official facial primer I ever used but maybe I’m remembering things all wrong…..! Needless to say I remember it being mind blowing since it was one of the very few hydrating facial primers around at the time.

The beauty industry was busy force feeding the world Smashbox Photo Finish which for this dry skinned girl was a nightmare. First off, Photo Finish was itchy as hell and secondly, it pilled like crazy on my drier skin. I found myself reading raving review after review after review and questioning why it didn’t work for me! I tossed my tube out and P.S. I avoid it at all costs to this day.

Soon after I discovered Laura Geller Spackle which I was scared to try due to my horrible experience with Photo Finish. Mind you this is well over ten years ago and facial primers weren’t as plentiful as they are nowadays. Bless relief! Spackle turned out wonderfully for me! It absorbed easily and it eased the way for my foundation so application was smoother and easier.

Fast forward a hundred or so odd years and we now have Laura Geller Spackle Mist. Priming mists (or hell even priming oils now) are the newest rage to hit the beauty scene but I find them terribly overated.

These newfangled primer mists promise to not only prime and hydrate your skin but also to set it for all day where. I’ve tried a few and I haven’t quite found one that impresses me as of yet. Ironically enough it was Smashbox Primer Water that started this craze. So, here we are full circle! Considering I was unimpressed with the Smashbox formula maybe Laura Geller’s will!

This does promise the multitasking benefits that most primer waters so such as priming and hydrating as well as setting. It also contains aloe vera extract and Vitamin B5 to keep skin moist!

We shall see maybe this formula will win me over!

Laura Geller Spackle Mist is available now at Ulta.com as well as Nordstrom.com.

What do you think?

Worth a try?

I bought a bottle when LG was having a July 4th sale. I have tried it once and so far I like it. But I also like Smashbox’s primer water. I think I prefer LG’s though.

Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your vacay.

Hey Kim! Thank you! It was lovely 😀 I didn’t really like SM’s Primer Water :-/ But I’m going to try out this one, curious how it is!

Please try to find an alternative to this face mist because it contains EDTA, phenoxyethanol and other ingredients that are harmful. The sodium hyaluronate (used to lubricate and hold moisture) can be harmful to pregnant women. It can also cause rashes or irritation if mixed with other products.
I have dry skin as well, and use my own face mist made from Organic Rosewater, Organic Aloe (no fillers), Organic Witch Hazel (alcohol free), and a pinch of Dead Sea Salt.
I’d be happy to send you a small bottle of toner mist if you would like.

thank you Abigail for the info! I surely will look into something else 😀 Aw you don’t have to do that, that’s very very very sweet to offer though <3!

I too have very dry skin and I have tried a many different brands of moisturizers and facial cleansers and I have not found anything that keeps my dry skin under control. I have hypothyroidism and that causes severely dry skin. I would love the recipe for your toner and the info. of where to purchase the items , if you don’t mind sharing. Would be appreciated.

Welcome back, Muse! I hope you had a fabulous vacation! Was your little baby happy to see you when you got back, or did she go with you? 🙂

Thanks chickie! 🙂 She did not go 🙁 I left her with my sister! She practically peed herself when I got home lol! Racing around and whining like she didn’t see me for 20 years!

Oh man, when me and the hubby go on vacay the inlaws take care of the cats for us (mother-in-law even stays over a few nights!). But when we get back, MAN does Kitty give me an earful for a couple days. Lots of meowing! Mini was just indifferent, and Mako (along with Kitty) needed much cuddle time. At least it’s nice to know we are missed when we get back, right? 😀

I cannot get myself to even think about using something on my face called “spackle”. It conjures up “applying your makeup with a trowel” and is definitely NOT a look I am going after. It took me a long time to even try some of the other LG products (which I ended up liking very much), but that name was just soooo off-putting! “Spackle”. Yuk.

I agree with your assessments completely! I HATED the Smashbox primer and I LOVE Laura’s Spackle–in fact, I used it just yesterday. Haven’t tried the mist and probably won’t. BUT I am going to try the Josie product you reviewed today–sounds intriguing! Did you like it as much as Spackle?
