Do You Look In Your Friend’s Cabinets When You Use Their Bathroom?

sneaky

I remember very vividly visiting my great aunt’s house at around five year’s old, using her bathroom, and proceeding to go through all her cabinets. She had this Pepto Bismo pink bathroom and I recall peeing and sneaking peeks of stuff that was stored away in a cabinet under her sink which happened to be right next to the commode. I also recall I must have been in there literally ages because my mom was knocking on the door at least twice asking me what I was doing.

Memories are weird right? What a strange thing to recall!

The other night I was laying in bed watching the last two episodes of Gotham (because I’m THAT behind on TV) with my best friend and the conversation was along the lines of this:

Him: I need to take a leak!
Me: TMI, you don’t need to announce it or ask, just go!
Him: Be right back!
Me: Ok!

At this point, Cory Michael Smith was on screen in a absurd suit looking all kinds of hot. That manic smile, those chocolate brown eyes, those glasses, the riddles, a girl was about to swoon and burst into flames. And P.S. Did you know he dated the Mother of Dragons? Not Riddler, Cory Michael Smith, although Riddler and Dany cross fandomation is perfectly ok for me. If you’re listening fan fiction authors please get on that.

Anyway, I was eager to get back to all things Riddler but my friend was taking literally ages to come out of the bathroom.

So the conversation was along the lines of:

Me, Yelling: What the hell are you doing in there?
Him: Going through your cabinets! Why do you have foot spray?

Moral of the story, I obviously have nosy friends….!

Oh, P.S. That foot spray story is for another day and another post!

Well, maybe not nosy but curious ones! I personally haven’t been through anyone’s cabinets since I was five but I understand the curiosity and temptation. I totally get the need to open a cabinet and stick my nose in to see what beauty or makeup might be lurking in there. It’s just natural curiosity.

So, yeah, I guess I grew out of snooping!

Do you snoop?

Do you go through your friend’s bathroom cabinets?

Do share!

Yes. Being the makeup junkie that I am, I have snooped through my best friend’s makeup bag that sits on the counter, while I was using her restroom. Seriously, how could I NOT????? I do the same when I visit my sisters House and sit at her vanity. Same goes for my mom’s house in her bathroom. Love discovering the little tid bits of what she has purchased. Am I weird or what ????

    • Isabella Muse

LOL not at all! Just human nature to want to see what everyone has stashed away 😀 I haven’t really done it with friends because I’m worried if they caught me they would be like WTF are you doing!? haha!

  • LS

I don’t, but I know that others do. I keep it pretty sparse in the bathroom that guests use, which is also the one my kids use. There is nothing under the sink but extra TP. There is nothing in the medicine cabinet but Band-Aids. The linen closet is just linens and a spare bottle of body wash. It’s super boring for a snooper. Now the cabinets in the master bath are crammed full of product…

I snoop all the time because I want to ask girl friends about products that they’re using because I may want to try them! (Crowd sourcing is essentially the point of Reader’s Choice Awards!) However, one time I went through my boyfriend’s dopp kit and noticed he was using terrible generic hotel mini lotions for body (and face?) and I threw it out, replaced it with a travel-sized Korres body butter (I guess it was a reflex reaction to the idea of someone using terrible products; I hadn’t even thought to ask)…and then I noticed foot ointment. And I was like whaaat? So I asked him about it–and he got upset at the snooping. 🙁 I guess foot ointment is embarrassing?? So then I had to confess that I had already replaced his lotion–whoops! …to his credit, he immediately wiped the “stop being crazy” look off his face and was like, “Hunny, I know you’re trying to help but don’t waste your good stuff on me.” Hahahaha! 🙂

My bff already announced to me a long time ago that she will be snooping around our cabinets whenever she comes to my place. I don’t care. I never snoop unless people are out of toilet paper though. It seems too scary.

This post is hilarious. Love it. I don’t sneak a peek…but I want to. I literally have to remind myself to not do it. I’m always afraid it’s rigged and they will know I am really a closet snoop. My master bathroom has built in open shelves running across one wall. No one has to sneak, it’s all out in the open. Under the sink I have my “girlie products”, tp and a few containers of make up.

    • Isabella Muse

haha Jen! Yup! likewise! I always get scared they have a camera or something and know I’m looking in their cabinets so I just don’t do it! haha I like your bathroom, I can just look at all the pretty without feeling sneaky! 😀

I have a general rule of not opening bathroom cabinets at a friend’s house because I would feel rude doing so. I will look at anything that’s out in the open though. My sister is the exception to this rule. I’ve gone as far as opening a makeup palette she has and swatched some of the shades without her knowing.

  • Carm

No but when I watch reality TV (E! Or Bravo), I pause to see what products they are using.

In my single days, I ALWAYS made sure to go through a guy’s medicine cabinet before I would have sex with him. I would look out for sketchy medications, evidence of another woman, or suspicious toiletries. It is a running joke between me and my husband how when I did this to him I found NOTHING. To the point that I thought he was hiding something cause he had the most bare bones bathroom EVER- no shampoo or shaving cream or body wash. Every cleaning was performed with bar soap – tiny bars of Ivory stolen from a Motel 6, no less. Single blade disposable Bic razors. One generic deodorant. Non-electric cheap toothbrush. Basic toothpaste- not even whitening or plaque control. Now he is spoiled and uses more products than I do!!

I tend not to snoop. If someone had makeup set up or in a bag on the counter I’d look at that. If I had a couple glasses of wine I’d possibly peek behind the mirror.

I used to love going to my aunt’s when I was a kid, though, because she had all these great products. All my mom ever had was Nivea Cream, eyeliner pencil, mascara and a lipstick. My aunt had all that and more, including those rubber face peel masks, fancy lipsticks, blush, and stuff I’d seen advertised on TV. I wanted to spend all day in the bathroom just exploring all this cool, new stuff.

  • Iris

I don’t snoop in closed cabinets or drawers. If they have shampoos or cleansers around out in the open, I may take a look if they’re interesting but anything closed is off limits.

  • Gillie

One of my friends has a cabinet with glass doors in her bathroom. You bet I check it all out! 🙂

  • Justine

When I was a pre-teen, I would always ask my older cousins if I could look
through their cosmetics. I was just so curious as to what they were using! I still love to know what other people are using, but I always ask rather than snoop without permission (no matter how much I’m tempted to take a peek! Lol).

    • Isabella Muse

ha! I never peek either. One I feel rude doing it and two I feel like if I do I’d get caught :-0!

      • Justine

Lol exactly! Most of my good friends just hand me their makeup bag “for inspection” without saying anything. They know me too well!

  • Maggie

My BFF would definitely snoop–doesn’t matter what it is, cabinets, closets, my bags. I actually don’t mind–I don’t really have anything to hide and understand that she is just curious bc I’m an organization and beauty junkie. Unfortunately, I’m also the type of person who will let things pile up into a huge mess–and then organize crazily in one go.

I only ask her not to go through certain storage if I think a bunch of STUFF would collapse on her if she opens a door–I seriously take up every inch of storage space and shove things in. It’s an embarrassing habit of mine.

  • danadoo

I confess, it’s very hard for me to resist peeking..I’m just so darn curious about other people’s beauty goodies! When I was a little kid, I had a glamorous grandma who always “put on her face” before leaving the house, which intrigued me to no end because my mother never wore makeup, or had any fancy beauty products. I always snooped at grandma’s house, i remember lots of Estee Lauder and Lancome stuff. She also had this coral colored lipstick, I still remember that the tube was mint green and had flowers and a peacock on it, and the lipstick was minty flavored! This was pretty fancy stuff for 1984-ish and i COVETED that lipstick soooo bad! This was like 30 years ago and the memory is still so vivid!

  • Zovesta

Nope… I’m the least curious person on earth. I’ve never looked through a person’s things, even as a kid. =S Not my business, right? Though, I gotta ask: who DOESN’T have foot spray? Maybe it’s because I live in the country and am constantly going for walks, but keeping athlete’s foot spray is a constant staple in the house. It’s a damn necessity! >:0
