Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chrome Review & Swatches
The Color Tattoo family gets yet another addition with the new Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chrome which launched with the Maybelline Summer 2016 Collection recently in ten gorgeous shade selections.
We’ve been through a good deal of Color Tattoo products haven’t we? The original Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow, the Color Tattoo Pigments, the Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayons, and now a brand new liquid metallic eye cream!
Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chrome is a new way to get your Color Tattoo fix in liquid form. These cream shadows promise to deliver up to 24 hours of wear to eyes with a creamy, fluid formula that leaves behind a blast of brilliant liquid metal to lids.
Take a look!
I’m definitely a Color Tattoo fan girl. Some people love the original potted cream Color Tattoos, others don’t. Personally, I’ve collected them all including limited edition ones since their original release. I have to admit I haven’t used the loose pigments nor the crayons as much as I did those potted creams. And sadly, I likely won’t use these new Color Tattoo Eye Chromes as much either. Nothing quite lives up to the original idea of formula does it?
Color Tattoo Eye Chrome are $9.99 each and weigh in at 0.11 oz. These come housed in a slim barrel with an attached sponge applicator for application. They are a feast for the eyes that’s for sure. The colors all glimmer very temptingly from the display and beg to be purchased. Which, I fear, is exactly how I ended up purchasing all ten! How can you resist all that tasty sparkle right? The colors range from dramatic to subtle with gorgeous, sparkly jewel tones of purple, green, bronze, and more. Each shade is more dramatic and gorgeous than the next and it was pretty hard to say, “Hey, I’ll just grab one or two!” Although after trying them I kind of wish I had.
The formula is a thicker, creamy consistency which has a slightly chunky, drier texture. The main problem with this formula is the fact it dries way too quickly! I typically swatch directly from the sponge applicator and I kid you not, almost as soon as I swipe it on and lift my finger to blend it is already dry. This means blending is quite a patchy mess. They simply dry way to quickly which results in messy eye looks as you can see below in some of my photos. The color ends up looking patchy and even flaky in some areas particularly with the darker shades. Some shades applied better than others in my experience. One shade that sticks out is Bronze Sheen. This applied, blended, and built very easily on my eyes and looked incredible. However, I am sad to say I had issues with all the other shades. I will say they don’t actually crease and are fairly budge proof during the wear but they are also mighty difficult to remove at the end of the day. The pigmentation is beautiful on all but one of the shades (Glided Rose was terribly sheer) and they all swatch amazingly on my arm. In my opinion, if they formula was a little wetter and less quick to set you’d likely be able to build the colors into a wonderful jeweled eye look.
Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chrome aren’t going to win any major awards with me sadly. The too quick to dry formula makes for a difficult application process but lord knows, if they could improve that I see the formula as a winning formulation that wears like a real champ! And let’s not forget how gorgeous some of these shades are. The pigmentation is fantastic but the formula is too problematic for creating eye looks. Let’s face it, cream eyeshadow shouldn’t be this hard to apply right?
Oh well!
If nothing at all I would recommend trying out Bronze Sheen at the very least.
