Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation

Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation ($40) is a new, permanent matte finish, long-wearing foundation that launched with the Urban Decay Fall 2016 which has a formula that’s waterproof, oil-absorbing, and available in 24 shades.

Fall seems closer than ever at the moment but the hard 90 and upward weather is reminding me it is very much Summer which is why the Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation gets release just at the right time for this dry skinned girl. I’m drier which means I prefer hydrating cream or lighter, moisturizing fluid foundations. I avoid matte finish foundations like the plague. It’s great that the All Nighter Foundation gets an early release because the weather is still VERY warm and VERY humid which means my skin is bit more shiny and oily. And way more forgivable when it comes to wearing matte formulas! Especially this week when it may just hit the 100 degree mark.

I’ve been testing All Nighter Liquid Foundation since earlier last week and I’m finally ready to share my review and thoughts on the wear.

Take a look!

Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation

As per the name, this new foundation was inspired by Urban Decay’s popular All Nighter Setting Spray. It’ll be available in 24 shades when it launches later this month and comes housed a slick gunmetal barrel with a cracked glass cut out that displays the shade through it. The packaging is pretty darn slick for foundation and definitely has that Urban Decay edge-y look and feel. It’s 1 oz in size and will set you back $40 which by the way is the same size and price as Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup. But you are getting 25% more pigment with All Nighter versus the original Naked Skin formula. So, if you require fuller coverage this is most definitely the formula to go with. The formula isn’t quite the same but I would say that the coverage is about the same as Kat Von D’s Lock-It Foundation.

They aren’t remotely over marketing this formula because it truly does wear all night. I’d say at the moment my skin is hitting a combination moment where my t-zone is oily and my cheeks are drier. This promises to absorb oil and offer an all day wear with a matte finish. It’s a funny little foundation because it does absorb excess oil but it doesn’t adhere to drier areas nor does it suck moisture from skin. The coverage is absolutely seamless and very, very lightweight. I wouldn’t say it sets powdery nor velvety but it does have provide a very thin layer of coverage that adheres and provides a second-skin like finish. It’s actually formulated with a polymer gel and silicones that adhere to skin for full, lasting coverage. It’s a little picky during the application and blending process particularly around drier areas. I’d recommend a sponge or a brush and a well prepped, moist face during application as it tends to drag a little bit as you blend. As long as you prep well there shouldn’t be a problem. The coverage is outstanding and provides a smooth, even finish that’s as close to skin as you can get when you have a good color match. It wears like a champion! I was out on a boat this weekend and it was very, very humid plus water splashing in my face (it was a speed boat) as well as wind, etc…and after all this my foundation remained fresh and flawless. I also did a variety of running around this weekend and last weekend in the heat and I experienced absolutely no fading. I even tested this on a non primed face (I don’t recommend it as blending is difficult) and it still retained the wear for a solid 14 hours and probably would have still held up if I didn’t remove it.

I actually liked it because it didn’t adhere to my dry areas nor did it suck moisture from my skin. Yes, it’s matte! But it isn’t a traditional matte but more of a demi-matte that wears and feels very comfortable on my drier skin. I’m actually looking forward to trying it in the Winter when my skin is much more drier! I have a feeling it’ll still work well even then!

I see the Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation become a very, very fast favorite for oily skin users who require a long, strong wearing foundation or for even though who are combination or drier. The application is a little irritating but nothing primer and a wet Beauty Blender can’t help. This wears long, strong, and hard plus it provides completely full coverage that will give you a flawless appearance for hours upon hours on end.

Good stuff!

Muse Approved.

  • Robin Burris

    This is a test. 🙂

I will have to check this out. I don’t wear primers because they seem to make my foundation slide off my face. I have normal to oily skin. I like their original Naked foundation; hoping to the love the matte one!

    • Isabella Muse

haha sorry Robin my comments were being weird! I felt like replying, “This is only a test” Let me know if you test out and whatcha think!

    • Powell

Have you tried Smashbox Photo Finish primer? I have combination skin and love this primer Also Too faced Primed and Poreless Pure. Both are some of my favorites.

  • Renu

My biggest gripe with the Naked Skin foundie was that I would turn oily in no time. Glad there’s this option for us greasy people! I am in love with the cut-glass bottle. Will defo be getting this one.

  • Janie

I have been waiting for this ever since I saw the teaser trailer Urban Decay released on Facebook! I’ve worn Naked Skin for ages due to it’s lightweight quality but I’m so oily that I need something that lasts longer as it comes off after about 4 hours on me. I’ve tried all the “long lasting” options out there and they were all too mask-like on me: Kat Von D, Estee Lauder Double Wear, Tarte Amazonian Clay, etc etc. I am so pumped for this! Please God let it be my HG! One more day til release woohoooooo!

    • Isabella Muse

Strangely enough Naked is actually oily on me too and I have drier skin! I think you’ll like this one or I hope you will! Very lightweight, second-skin-like in finish! LMK when you try it!

  • Claire L

Shame this has dimethicone in it or I’d be all over it! I reacted to the Naked Skin concealer so am wary of trying UD foundations/concealers for this reason. Sob! I do love their eyeshadows though!

  • Holly

Now I neeeeed this!! Lol I love that it can work for different skin types! Take my money again Urban Decay!

  • Laura

I’m so excited for this foundation! I like my Naked Skin (it’s a perfect color match) but I find that it can be too dewy and fade after a few hours. This one looks way more long-lasting! Do you know when it’ll be in Ulta or Sephora? Hopefully soon 😀

  • hanan

It sounds amazing, something worth purchasing and will defoo do that :p xx

  • Kayla

Hey Muse, just wanted to let you know that the captions are wrong on your swatches…you labeled the pictures with same foundation numbers 🙂
I’m super excited to try this, but I can’t really justify buying it because I still have an almost full bottle of Kat Von D. Guess I better hurry through that so I can get this one!

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Kayla, the first photo showed just swatched colors, the second shows the same shades blended a little. They are all three the same shade. Hope this helps! 😀 Hurry hurry!

        • Isabella Muse

oh no worries. I just blended them a bit more on the bottom pic to show how they adhere to skin! Sorry, that was probably confusing!

  • Rachel

I can’t wait to try this! Any idea when exactly its launching at Sephora?

    • Isabella Muse

launches today at Urban Decay and likely August at Sephora. Don’t have an exact date though! I’ll update!

  • Diana

Ohhhhh don’t NEED a new foundation, but it sounds like this is comparable to my beloved Estee Lauder Double Wear. I just hate wearing makeup in the summer Bc the heat + insane (80-90%) humidity means my face is just sticky and sweaty 24/7. But maybe this’ll help?

  • An

Oh my god I cannt wait to try this out ! I’m in love with their naked skin products !!

  • MyMakeupStoryPh

Hi dear! Are the colors the same with Urban Decay Naked Weightless Foundation?

    • Isabella Muse

I don’t exactly know! The Naked Weightless shades I have aren’t the same as the ones I got in All Nighter so, I can’t compare! I need to get to a counter/store and see how the shades of All Nighter Compare to the ones of Naked Weightless. Sorry!

        • CindyMiranda

Dear are the shades posted freshly applied or dried down? I’ve seen reviews that it turned a shade darker.

          • Isabella Muse

The first post is freshly applied the second is blended out/set.

  • Kim S

I wonder how this compares to the Marc Jacobs Remarkable. It’s my HG at the moment but would love to find one I’m just as happy with for cheaper.

  • Tonya

Did this foundation oxidize? I wear the 1.0 in Naked Skin and want to make sure the color will still work. Thanks!

  • ame

I was really hoping this would hit at Ulta this week, I have an order sitting in my cart, and really want to check out with this!

  • Natasha

Thank you for this! I am so excited to try it! Just two quick questions: 1) Does it dry down / set into a darker shade (not oxadize)? I’ve heard that it does on some people. 2) How is it in photography?

You are wonderful! Thank you for providing such thorough reviews!

  • Aileen

If you had to compare shades 3.0 and 4.0 to Mac shades what would you say they were? I’m NC25 at Mac and I’m stuck between those two shades

    • Isabella Muse

I’m not sure, I don’t use MAC foundations as they are either too orange or too beige on me so, I”m not terribly familiar with their shade range.

  • Stephanie

Great review! Do you think this foundation has better coverage than the Kat Von D one? I’m looking for a new foundation that is full coverage and can cover up pesky blemishes and scarring.

    • Isabella Muse

Coverage is about the same, it’s def full coverage 🙂

  • Shellie

    Hey Muse!
Do you think this foundation is less cakey than Kat Von D Lock It? I love the coverage of that one but it’s a bit *toooo* dry and cakey on me. Looking for an HG full coverage, luminous foundation for my wedding! Thanks!!

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Shellie. This isn’t luminous, you might want to go with the Naked Foundation if you want something lighter but unfortunately, that isn’t full coverage. This is second-skin line and looks very natural! I have drier skin and didn’t have an issue with it look dry or cakey. Hope this helps!?

  • Heather

Can I ask what shade you used for your skin? I am on the paler side but have a slight tan right now. I got shade 3 on a whim….

    • Isabella Muse

3.5 was best for me but a LITTLE too light (4.0 is too yellow)! Hope this helps!

  • erin

What shade did you find worked best for you? I tend to always be the same shade as you thats why i love your reviews swatches best. Before i buy any foundation i check your blog posts first because 99% of time whatever you wear works for me. Thank you so much .

    • Isabella Muse

3.5 was best for me Erin but a LITTLE too light (4.0 is too yellow). Aw thank you very very very very much that’s flattering to hear <3!

  • Cat

Would you know what shade would be the best match for Kat Von D in shade 44? It’s been out of stock for so long and this looks like the perfect alternative if I can get a colour match.

    • Isabella Muse

I’m not sure Cat! I haven’t seen all the shades in person! Sorry!

  • cody

i have the naked version of this and i find it really oily for me so i think i might try this foundation i just need to know if it is a really good foundation because i suffer with really bad acne and have so many scars from them so i just wanted to know if this is full coverage and if it is whats the best tone ?

    • Isabella Muse

I pretty much covered everything you need to know about the coverage in the review, Cody. Hopefully this helps. I can’t really say what the best tone is because I have no idea what your skin tone is, there are 28 shades to choose from.

      • cody

yeah thanku but i got a no7 full coverage foundation and it works perfect but i still really want this foundation and my skin tone is olive.

  • Isabella

I really want to buy this foundation because I am oily as f*ck! But I am not sure about the shades… What colors do you have in other foundations? Maybe Makeup Forever Ultra HD or Nars Sheer Glow?
If you can help me that would be very very nice
