Do You Sweat?

do you sweat

Do you sweat? Is that too personal a question? Ha! 🙂

This weekend, I stopped by Bath & Body Works to sniff Fall 2016 and I felt so, so, so terrible for the girls that work there. Why? Because their air conditioning was completely out. The combination of the bright lights and lack of air conditioner made for a hostile working environment to say the least.

And for some reason, I ended up getting into a discussion about sweat with one of the girls at the store. You gotta love female bonding where you just randomly start chatting it up about sweat.

This poor girl was pouring with sweat. I mean she had it dripping from the sides of her forehead. I’m actually not a person that sweats like that. Typically if anything at all my back gets a bit damp but I don’t have beads of sweat dripping from my forehead or face. It can be out in 150 degree weather and I can be jogging around, and I still don’t sweat.

I’ve always considered it a sign that you’re well hydrated if you’re pouring down with beads of sweat. I must need to drink more water! 🙂

What about you?

Are you a cool, calm person in the warm weather?

Or are you drowned in beads of sweat?

Do share!

I don’t sweat much either! My twin sister was working out with a trainer one time and the trainer commented on how she was huffing and puffing and obviously exerting herself but not sweating. Apparently the trainer had never seen that before. Everyone we know sweat, including my kids, but my sister and I get all red in the face but don’t perspire. I may get a little moisture on my forehead if I’m out running on a hot day, but not much.

    • Isabella Muse

That’s me too! I might get a little damp on my forehead or my back but beading up with sweat? Nope!

  • kimkats

“Do I sweat?” Pffffttt… I sweat like an overworked draft horse on an August day…. If I’m working outside, or if it’s warm and humid inside, I’m a soggy girl…. 🙂 It’s gotten worse since Auntie Flow stopped visiting, but I’ve always been a sweater.. 😀 Apparently always will be!

    • Amber

Omg girl!! I totally hear you… I’ve been having consistent hot flashes/profuse sweating since birthing my first child 11 years ago!! Now two kids later, it hasn’t changed much, just think I’ve gotten used to it . I do admit that I get self conscious at times because my face and back are always wet, whether it’s summer or winter. The only thing I have to be careful with is are my shirts (I try not wear solid colors that’ll show wetness). When I relate to the menopausal ladies, they look at me with such concern because I’m only 41

  • Jennifer

I don’t know anything about the hydration factor. But, yes, after a 30 minute jog, I’m sweaty…like beads of sweat. But hell, I live in Florida. Everyone here sweats. Lucky you. I wish I didn’t sweat.

    • Isabella Muse

I kind of wish I did! I feel like it means you’re well hydrated 😀

I sweat like crazy. If I even think about being warm, I start sweating. And I don’t glow, I SWEAT. The AC has been out in my metro station for more than a year now, and every afternoon when I go down there, the sweat starts just literally dripping off of my face.

I have finally, after 37 years, found a good deodorant/antiperspirant solution though. I still sweat, but I smell better and sweat less. I use unscented clinical strength antiperspirant before bed, and then a natural deodorant after showering in the morning.

  • Jay

My scalp sweats a ton…which makes is hard in the summer to wear my hair straightened lol. And you’re right, its better to sweat in the heat than not. When I’m running as soon as I stop sweating, I know I’m headed into the heat casualty danger zone. My underarms aren’t wet sweaty but boy do they stink! They stink it up right through clinical strength AND men’s deodorant haha! In the heat I get ripe ugh.

    • Isabella Muse

Seriously, I always think it is a sign of good health if you’re sweating that much! I get a little damp but that’s about it!

  • Samantha

I sweat like crazy and for anyone that is like me Witch Hazel is amazing to help not sweat as much I use it on my face and while I still sweat some it is much better than going without it.

  • Heidi

Oh god, I sweat. I cannot take heat, humidity or bright sunlight, and a combo of that, and I’m drenched. I’m getting to that perimenopause stage, too, so I really have some random sweat fests. My main goal is to have my skin look OK, so I can just wear concealer or do touchups once I’m back in an AC environment. I’m jealous of you if you don’t sweat a lot. I feel uncomfortable and I think it makes me sweat even more!

    • Isabella Muse

awww hugs! xoxoxo! My mom had a pretty hard time during menopause, she’s not a sweat type person either but she was just miserable at the time and had hot flashes horribly ;( Try to keep cool my dear!

  • Natalia

I’ll sweat in winter by walking. It’s a terrible issue I could get rid of. It’s embarrassing and it ruins my makeup! And trust me! I’m not well hydrated at all. My mom is like you. Almost never sweats.

    • Isabella Muse

haha I have to say I feel better about that! I feel like if I’m not swearing I’m not hydrated enough!

  • Deb

Oh Muse, my darling Muse, you have NO freakin idea how lucky you are if you don’t sweat much. I never did either until two things happened: I moved to Phoenix and I’m going through that wonderful, female only curse of menopause. You haven’t lived until you’ve gone through the heat of Phoenix during monsoon season. Not only is it ungodly hot, it’s humid! Sweat doesn’t even begin to describe it. 2 showers a day minimum. And in between….sweat. All day. All the time. Sweat dripping off the ends of my hair. Sweat running down my face. Waking up multiple times a night covered in sweat when the a/c is set at 75. It’s just a friggin paradise I tell ya!

    • Isabella Muse

Arizona is brutal! I’ve never been during monnsoon season but the few times I’ve visited my shoes literally stuck to the pavement lol! Dunno how you guys do it!

    • AJ

I’m 54, I live in Arizona, and I had a complete hysterectomy at 46 for which I can’t take estrogen. Until then my body never sweated very much at all. In fact, it still doesn’t. It’s just my head! When I can feel a hot flash coming, I pay attention because next the fountain starts erupting up top. I can actually feel it sometimes in my pores when it happens. Ping ping ping. Suddenly my head is a mini version of the fountains at the Bellagio. Someone said that witch hazel helps her. I will start carrying witch hazel wipes in my purse. I also have Rosacea, so I wear makeup and have never learned the futility of applying it in the summer mornings when I’m just going to sweat it off getting to my car. If my family weren’t here, I would probably move.

  • PK

Yes, I weat. I live in the Midwest. In the middle of summer, you can find me layered with deodorant, spray deodorant and gold bond friction defense. And I still sweat.

  • Sacre

I sweat like hell, especially my face, it goes through my foundation, just eugh D: My back too and legs. Sometimes when I put off a black cotton shirt and throw it to laundry and after a while load it to washing machine discover that there are salt streaks on it D: On positive side – I can endure high temperatures like no one else 😀

  • Kara

I use to have a huge problem with sweating, but a few months back I switched to a new deodorant and I haven’t had problems since. It’s an all natural brand called Native. I was really skeptical, but it works!

  • ruth

omg yes! I was in Greenville, SC and it was humid & hot! I sweated so much i was sopping myself up with a napkin. no shame. I was wiping my face, neck, and lower back. it was gross and i was ready to come home to maryland where it was equally hot, gross, and nasty =) I was at a book festival and met an author who had a head full of dreads, don’t know how he stood it. we were talking and he’s closer to my area, DC, and said it was hard with the heat and all of the hair. That’s how i usually end up with shortish hair every summer. I sweat so much, something’s gotta go & it’s the hair.

  • Anna

Hi muse, long time reader. First time poster! I would describe myself as ‘cold natured.’ It runs in my family. Anyway, this summer I switched to deodorant only (vs. deodorant-antiperspirant SP???). Ooooo I sweat like crazy now But I wouldn’t go back. So now I know what you sweaty gals go through ’cause I really am one!

  • stephanie

I HATE HATE HATE summer because every day is just one big sweat session. It makes me want to cry.

  • Emily

I am a huge sweater, always have been, always will be. I hate it, but what can I do, except wear deodorant? It’s actually not much of a problem in my day to day life because I work in an air-conditioned office and live in an air-conditioned house. But when I work out, I always sweat more than just about everyone else. It’s annoying, but, whatever. I think it’s hereditary. My beloved, amazing, fit and skinny dance instructor is a big sweater too, and she said even her 5-year-old daughter noticed that she (the daughter) sweats more than her preschool classmates do.

  • Seahorse

Sweating isn’t always a sign of good health – it can be the result of certain medications, like steroids.

  • Alys

I pour sweat! I do a lot of running and I have actually weighed myself before and after running an hour and have lost 5 lbs! I sweat heavy salt too which means it burns my eyes and crusts up my hydration belt. Ugh. I lost power this past Friday and had the misfortune of trying to sleep in oppressive pre-storm heavy humidity. I was not very happy. I woke up around 2am and made a huge whining Facebook post about it. Not something I usually do.

    • Amber

Oooooooooh!!!!! So that is what I see dried up on my black tank tops before washing them!! First I thought it was my body lotion smudging off my skin, but now that I think about it, my eyes stinging when I’m excercising, it all makes sense :-). Wow, it’s true when they say ‘you learn something new everyday’ 🙂

  • Christine

I have palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis. I sweat profusely all the time

  • Susie

When I was in high school and working fast food in a particularly scorching summer, everyone hated me bc my I barely ever sweated and my makeup and skin were flawless. At the time, I NEVER drank water, only soda, tea, milk and juice. About a year later I decided to start drinking lots of water and I haven’t stopped sweating since and that was 30 years ago! Lol

  • Iris

I sweat a lot. One summer the air conditioning was out at my work. Even wearing a halter top and capris, I was really sweaty. It’s not so bad in air conditioned places unless I’m running around.

  • danadoo

Oh gosh, this summer has been absolute hell..in the 90’s every day with 70 to 80% humidity! I start pouring like a fountain the minute I walk outside! I really hate it because I’m a face and head sweater, so that has meant wearing my long hair in a ponytail or bun with an absorbant headband every day, and I have literally not worn foundation all summer long, just some under eye concealer, and a light dusting of powder. I cant wait for fall!

    • Lorraine. E.R

I have long hair and wear makeup & also get face sweating and it’s the worst. 🙁
I’ve had my hair in a clip for 2 months straight and worn nothing but BB cream and mineral powders for base makeup and I cannot wait for it to be over!
      Bring on autumn!
I feel your pain though, for real.

  • Francesca

Omg this post is so great. I seriously thought I was the only one! This topic may seem “weird”, but it’s a reality to many of us and is very rarely talked about; I guess because sweating is deemed as something women just don’t do. That’s nonsense. I feel like I sweat more than men. Ugh. Being from the south, I should be used to hot, humid weather as people always feel the need to point out to me here in NYC where I have lived now for almost 3 years. I never in my life thought it was as hot here as it is in the south. It’s actually worse in NYC for the simple fact that I don’t drive anymore and have to walk EVERYWHERE and stand in scorching hot subway stations. Summer’s here are the worst! I miss driving with the AC blasting. And many stores or bodegas as they’re called here, have no AC at all! God help! I sweat in my head and face, which is beyond horrible as I have to wear makeup. I, too, feel like crying everyone summer rolls around. I always know what is to come. It’s embarrassing to say the least. I’ve considered Botox to help control it, but honestly I’m scared. Aside from moving to Alaska, I guess I’m screwed for life. 🙁
Thanks again for bringing this issue to light.

    • Isabella Muse

aw my pleasure ;-D glad you were comfortable enough to share your sweat issues Francesca 😀

  • Lorraine. E.R

I was never much of a sweat-er until I hit 25-26 yrs old for some reason.
Now I get it but it’s in weird places. My FACE sweats!! & if I’m really really hot the back of my legs will too. 🙁 I hate it.
My face will sweat at the drop of a hat now even if I’m just nervous it’ll start to do it. It is so embarrassing to be shopping or eating dinner across from someone or whatever and bam- I can feel my face getting wet. Plus as a makeup wearer it double sucks. Plus plus I’m in Louisiana in the summer!! Ugh!!!

  • Mariele Storm

Yup yup yup. My mother and I are EXTREMELY prone to heat exhaustion and heat stroke. I can’t go for a 10 minute walk in 90 degree weather without getting shaky, beet red, and drowned in sweat. They don’t make deodorant strong enough for me. 😛
