My Shower Gel Collection Seems to Have Surpassed My Makeup One

beauty confession

Beauty confession! Um my shower gel collection seems to have surpassed my makeup one. I’ve always had a very real problem when it comes to collecting shower gels. I used to be particularly obsessed with Philosophy Shower Gel. I would just like to say that fact that Philosophy rarely releases new ones is likely because they know about people like me and wanted to give us a little bit of a break. I’m not that person that says, “Oh let me finish this shower gel before I buy a new one!”

Nope, not me.

I have to have a new shower gel even though I have fifty other bottles stockpiled in my bathroom cabinet that are barely used. My latest obsession is Tone Blissful Awakening Energizing Body Wash Caffeine & Vanille Blossom! It reminds me of Britney Spears Private Show! Seriously, buy it now. It’s yummy!

The good news is my obsession with shower gel is currently under wraps. I put myself on an ABSOLUTELY NO BUY EVER AGAIN until I use up what I have. At this point, I have enough shower gel to clean most of the USA and some of Europe.

I’m proud of myself because the Tone Body Wash is actually the only one I purchased in like the past year. I deserve an ice cream cone or some major reward for displaying such feats of great strength.

Got a beauty confession you want to get off your chest?

Share it here!

I’m listening and willing to forgive you!

🙂

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If I lived near you, we would be best friends. I, too, have a shower gel collection to rival no other. Philosophy is also one of my fave shower gel brands. I’m guessing I have around 50 as well. I also have a thing for BBW hand soaps. They are stored on all 3 levels of my house. I lost count but I think I have around 100-120 total. My makeup collection is sick. FULL tubs organized by brand. Tarte, Too Faced, Urban Decay, LORAC, Stila, MAC, and several tubs organized by product, incl 3 tubs of those BBW lip glosses you like. I will never use all of it before I die, but I cannot stop buying new stuff when it comes out.

    • Isabella Muse

OMG! You’re my soul sister! Haha! I love you lets move in together!

      • Katie

If I could upload pics here, I would share with you! I’m
not a beauty blogger like you so I have no reason to have so much stuff, other than i have a problem and I’m a serious hoarder! I’m about to go to BBW and stock up on the new fall hand soaps! One thing I am disappointed in is those lip glosses…do you know why there haven’t been any new releases for awhile? I miss the days of when there’d be a supply of new flavors released each season

        • Isabella Muse

lol! I’d love that 😀 I’d feel so much better about my own stash 😀 I also stockpile the hand soaps btw! I have no idea! I miss the flavored lipglosses so much! They were fun! They don’t do them anymore for some reason or another!

          • Katie

Did I also mention that I hoard those wall plug-in things, too?? I have a large stash from Yankee Candle, BBW, and also Glade, Air Wick, Febreze. In fact, it was your recent post on Glade’s new fall collection that got me excited for the new season!

          • Isabella Muse

i do too! lol! glade and febreeze seasonal hoarder here! ;-D

    • Lesley A.

Maybe the 2 of you could swap your partly used shower gels. Could be a win-win.

  • Nikki

I currently have over 2 years worth of Bath and Body Works shower gel and lotion stockpiled under my sink. I’m slowly but surely going thru it! I also have about 7 or 8 masks that I routinely rotate thru. I find if I divide my stash into seasons I’m more likely to use (and finish!) everything.

    • Isabella Muse

I do that! I love organizing by season but even doing that doesn’t get me through it any faster sadly 🙁

      • ruth

that’s how i feel about my chucks! I *know* that I could go at least a good 2 months and not wear the same pair twice. and my book collection- I have 5 cases (about 7/8 feet tall) from when Borders went out of business and one is filled with unread books and still buying more!

        • Isabella Muse

haha likewise on all accounts. Books, chucks, collectibles ;-D I don’t buy as many books anymore though! I have 6 cases and after I got my first kindle several years ago I cut down dramatically on book purchases even my manga purchases are turning digital lately ;-D saves a lot of space!

          • ruth

I have a Kindle too and really love it! but I also go to a lot of book signings and like to have the physical book at those kinds of things. I’m even driving to Greenville, SC Friday for a festival. There’s a big one in Nov. in Charleston, SC that I went to last year and missed all of the panels waiting in lines to meet the authors. There was several trips back to the car to switch out signed and not signed. I have a problem.

          • Isabella Muse

Oh I don’t blame you in that case!!!! Can’t sign a kindle 😀

        • Kathy Agel

I have three bookcases here in my computer room (all dedicated to non-fiction — military history, computers, photography, books about sharks, whales and dolphins, horses, dogs, and parrots, gardening, music, movies and TV, baseball, horse racing, and equestrian sports), two bookcases in the bedroom (one is my husband’s), one (made by my older brother-in-law in high-school woodshop nearly 60 years ago!) in the little room off the bedroom, one in the bird room, and one in the kitchen for my cookbooks. I have boxes upon boxes of unread books stored inthe closet in the bird room and in the closet in the computer room, plus TBR piles in the bedroom (three double stacks on the bookcase, two stacks on my nightstand), multiple stacks on two DVD cases here in my computer room, and the next five books I have lined up to read are sitting here on my desk. That doesn’t count my the scores of books on my standalone Kindle or the Kindle app on my phone (or the one on the iPad Air, which is restricted to cookbooks because the iPad is only 32GB. I can’t wait for the new iPhones — they’re supposed to max out at 256GB, which will be heavenly — I only have 17GB left on my 128GB iPhone 6). I read multiple books at a time — one here at the computer, one at my recliner, one in the bedroom, one on my phone, and another one on my standalone Kindle (which I readout at the pool — the glue in paperbacks doesn’t hold up to the Florida sun very well, and I’ve had covers fall off books),and one on the Kindle app on my phone.

Then there are the fanzines (yeah, I’m a dinosaur — I still buy printzines. I got involved in zine fandom as a reader in 1981, as a writer in 1983, and as an editor/publisher in 1988. I don’t buy as many as I used to, but there’s something about a zine that reading on a screen can’t reproduce. I stopped editing and publishing about 10 years ago — the fannish economy just doesn’t support print publishing the way it used to, and being retired, I can’t take the financial loss if a print run doesn’t sell out). And magazines — Best Friends, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, TV Guide, Entertainment Weekly, Practical Horseman, Dressage Today, Sidelines (I don’t ride any more, so I participate vicariously through the magazines). I ended up getting Martha Stewart’s magazine free when I placed an order with Fragrance.Com last year. Romantic Times Book Reviews just stopped publishing the print edition — now only the digital version is available. I have to scope out the website to find where the magazine features are — RT was a fantastic resource for titles and release dates of genre books (it covered SF and fantasy, paranormals, urban fantasies, and mysteries in addition to the various sub-genres of romance).

When we moved from NJ to Florida, the movers said that they’d never seen anyone with as many books as I had. I didn’t think I had that many, and I found that comment rather sad.

          • Miss D

I’m late to viewing this post, but all I can say is “wow”- it sounds like you have more books and magazines than me (and I can relate b/c whenever I move to a different apartment the movers ALWAYS complain about my books too!). 🙂

I’ve gotten so much better being less makeup but shower gels and body lotions!!! It’s bad, I have shelves to last a decade. I haven’t bought a new shower gel in a while now, minus free travel size bbw ones I get with coupons, but you have me seriously wanting that tone one that smells like private show!!

    • Isabella Muse

I have really gotten a grib on it! I promised myself no more until I use with I have. I have a particular problem with freaking fragrance! that I can’t stop lol! 😀 Let me know what you think if you try it 😀

  • Anne

I started using up my shower gels as shampoo and hand soap just to get through it! I’m down to one IKEA square cube of bath and body care. I won’t open a new one until the current one is open (my husband knows ‘new lotion/shampoo/shower gel day’ is like Christmas for me, and I really try to love the scent before committing to it, I ask myself ‘will I get sick of this 1/3 of the way through the bottle?’ I also try to stay away from the SAS at BBW but find it hard to resist the after Christmas sales, especially for Philosophy gels! On current rotation is Beach Nights lotion, Softsoap Coconut splash gel, Garnier Coconut shampoo and conditioner and Body Shop Brazil Nut spray. I already have my next round planned, based on season of course! (pumpkin cupcake from BBW for the whole shebang). I only buy the BBW hand soaps for the special runs like Halloween and Christmas, which helps keep my stash ‘normal’.

    • Isabella Muse

I’m terrible with hand soap! I simply cannot say no! it’s worst than shower gel for me!

  • Karen

It’s body lotions, creams & butters for me. I have so much stock piled it’s ridiculous. When I add up all of the $ that I could have been saving or using for other necessities, it’s kind of sad. But alas, I am using them up and enjoying them so I don’t feel that bad. 🙂
PS: I had a shower gel obsession too but I stopped it a few years ago.

  • Gillie

Hair care is where my stash gets crazy. I have tons and tons of products that I’ve purchased thinking each one would perform some miracle. When I finally decide that it’s not doing what I was hoping it would, I put it away, thinking I’ll eventually use it again. Except I don’t.

It drives my (bald) husband crazy! 😀

  • Kathy Agel

My go-to shower gel is Fresh Cream by philosophy (thank you, QVC, sof the humongous deals you’ve had in the past year. My linen closet is well stocked). I also love the Christmas scents from Suave — apple, toasted sugar, and anything vanilla (and the seasonal vanilla liquid soap from Softsoap, except for the Halloween one — it smells horrid. I buy the Christmas version six at a time, as long as they’re available. I use them in both bathrooms and at the kitchen sink). Coconut and sweet pea shower gels from their regular line, too — I like to coordinate the coconut and apple scents with coconut and apple shampoos.

  • SusanT

Hey, Muse, wassup? Daisy sends love & kissies to Auntie Muse BTW. OMG, I am a Philosophy shower gel whore! Like Katie, I probably have about 50 or so of them, too. I have cut back on buying them, and my only recent purchases were super-sizes of the Seniorita Margarita, Pineapple Smoothie & Coconut (don’t remember the name, I gave it away to a friend) that I bought on QVC. Seniorita Margarita is my absolute favorite and I wish Philosophy would come up with a body mist in the scent — I would live in it and spray myself with it 24/7. I also have a stock pile of B&BW candles, and must have about 20 Marshmallow Fireside candles just on hand; always a great gift in a pinch. I will never stop buying makeup. I think I’ve become more selective over the years, but more & more great products keep coming out — what’s a girl to do? LOL!

  • Carrie

I too have a bunch of shower gel, but am trying not to buy more. The exception is Fresh Cream by philosophy or any spin off of it. I love it sooooo much. God knows I have too much makeup. Lol. I’m also a sucker for books and funko pop! Figures.

  • Miss D

Yes, Yes! I collect WAY too much shower gel too! And I can’t just use up one bottle at a time- I have to use one for several days and then switch to a different bottle for a different scent (I do this with lotion as well). In other words, I end up with lots of opened bottles that are nowhere near empty…and the pile keeps growing! XD
