Bath & Body Works Pumpkin Cupcake Review

Bath & Body Works Pumpkin Cupcake

Ah the new, limited edition Bath & Body Works Pumpkin Cupcake Fragrance might create a craving or two. Not for me, I like the smell of pumpkin but I don’t like to eat it. Pumpkin spice muffins, snacks, coffees, they are smell incredible! Hell, I even have plenty of perfume oils and fragrances from Etsy sellers that smell like pumpkin but actually eating pumpkin spice anything is off limits for me. I’m just not a fan!

Pumpkin Cupcakes? Sure, I want to smell like that! But, nope, I don’t want to eat ’em!

Bath & Body Works Pumpkin Cupcake is one of three new Pumpkin Festival Fragrances that launched for Fall 2016 which is available in fragrance mists, bath, and body goodies.

Sadly, this doesn’t actually have pumpkin anything in it but it still smells pretty none the less!

The top notes are apparently orange zest, apple, and toasted pecan with middle notes of sheer jasmine, and cupcake accord. A direct mist right out of the bottle will get you that first creamy cupcake accord note right away. To me, it almost smells like a vanilla play-doh-ish note! I know, play-doh doesn’t sound terribly appealing but I promise it actually works out very well. I don’t the apple, nor the orange nor the toasted pecans but straight up vanilla cupcake is a note that dominates during that initial mist. As it settles and begins to dry you’ll find that a tiny hint of orange comes out to play with a spicy note of cinnamon sugar. As it develops and dries down further I get hit with cupcake again but a lot spicier than before since the cinnamon begins to dominate. It isn’t a revolting cinnamon note I promise but more a gourmand one like cinnamon sugar frosting on a warm cupcake with a tiny zest of orange peel on top! My nose might not be experienced enough to capture the toasted pecans, apple, or sugared amber but I do get the cupcake element in this fragrance. There’s no pumpkin notes but oddly enough they somehow capture a hint of pumpkin something in the background! Blame it perhaps on the cinnamon but you do get a vibe of a pumpkin and cinnamon cupcake that has a swirl of orange-y frosting on top of it!

This one is delightful but as with most Bath & Body Works fragrances very short lived. You’ll need to be sure to layer up to make it last as it disappears fairly quickly.

Definitely a delightful Fall fragrance that gets you in the mood for the cooler weather ahead, the longer, darker nights, and the endless round of Halloween parties that are sure to be laced with pumpkin spice everything!

Bath & Body Works Pumpkin Cupcake is available now in stores and online.

mmm not quite warm vanilla sugar on my skin! I def get a good deal of cupcake that I don’t get with warm vanilla sugar, but yup, no pumpkin really! :-/

I go nose blind in that store! I can never find the exact scent I like, because I smell a combo of everything they’re promoting and nothing smells exactly like that scent, so frustrating.

Do you have a pumpkin perfume or two from Etsy you can recommend? I can’t handle b&bw scents (they give me the sniffles) and all I can find are oils, which aren’t really my thing.

If you really want some serious fall scents with pumpkin mixed with just about anything (coffee, coconuts, whipped cream, applies, etc…etc…) I’d highly recommend checking out Lathers & Lights. They aren’t Etsy but they have their own website and have a ton of Fall perfumes, perfume oils, body care, hair care, etc.

Isabella: Thanks for your reviews on the Pumpkin Fragrances for body care at Bath and Body Works, and your tips on layering up for best results.

Thanks so much for the review! I’m a self-proclaimed pumpkin fanatic (only with scents and pumpkin spice coffee and some foods though – I absolutely loathe pumpkin pie) and was SO pumped that B&BW came out with their three new scents – Pumpkin Cupcake, Pumpkin Apple Cider, and Salted Caramel Pumpkin. I have always been a fan of the Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin, which is the perfect pumpkin scent in my opinion. My ultimate favorite though is their Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte (it smells exactly like last year’s Comfort).

When I went to B&BW specifically to test out the three new ones, I was shocked that I didn’t fall in love with them. The Pumpkin Cupcake lotion was okay, but it smelled way too much like Warm Vanilla Sugar with just a slight hint of cinnamon/pumpkin spice. I didn’t care for it enough to buy the entire fragrance line of it, but I did opt to get it in the hand wash, which smells a bit more like pumpkin than the lotion/spray. I thought the Salted Caramel Pumpkin was gross – surprise to me because caramel is one of my favorite scents. It had a really odd, strong, artificial caramel scent to me with no hint of pumpkin. I’m not a huge fan of pumpkin and apple together, so I wasn’t very surprised when I didn’t care for the Pumpkin Apple Cider.

I’m definitely more hopeful for the winter collection.

my pleasure Anna! 🙂 I really like Marshmallow Pumpkin latte too! It’s lovely! It’s weird that NONE of them smell like pumpkin!!!!!!!! I enjoyed them but still the fact they didn’t smell like pumpkin was disappointing 🙁

I had to laugh. I adore the Pumpkin Cupcake lotion, I wore Wakiki Beach Coconut all summer long. My son actually sniffed me the other day when I had on the Pumpkin Cupcake and said Yes, you are wearing Warm Vanilla Sugar again, it’s the scent he associates with me. Meanwhile, the guy I have been seeing came down the stairs and said that he knew I was in the house from the second he got out of the shower b/c he could smell me. The oddest thing is he has only smelled the Wakiki Beach Coconut and never the Pumpkin Cupcake. He also says that my scent lingers in his house for 4 days after I’ve been there. To me the Pumpkin Cupcake smells very different from Warm Vanilla Sugar, but I find it hugely comforting and adore the candles.
