Tarte Limitless Lippies Deluxe Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint Set Review & Swatches
I was excited to hear about the new Tarte Limitless Lippies Deluxe Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint Set ($42) that launched with the early Tarte Holiday 2016 Collection. Don’t worry, Tarte has plenty more Holiday goodies upcoming but we got an early preview of what’s to come this week with some new, limited edition value sets like this Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint one!
Let’s take a look at my review and swatches below.
So, Tarte went completely new and different with their traditional Holiday Lip Sets. We are very used to getting a variety of lip sets from Tarte like the Dressed to the Nines Lipsurgence Lip Creme Gift Set, Kiss & Belle Lipsurgence Lip Set, or even the Tarte Holiday 2014 Deluxe Maracuja Lip Gloss Set that either include Lipsurgences or a variety of lipglosses. This year, it’s all about showcasing their latest lip offering, the new Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint which launched back in December for Spring 2016. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Lipsurgences but I have so many shades from so many past Holiday Sets that I’m actually pretty happy that this year they did a Lip Paint Collection instead!
This limited edition set includes eight brand new shades in two giftable boxes. The packaging is pretty typical of Tarte Holiday offerings as they always offer their lip sets in a keep one, give one type packaging. The lipsticks are broken into four shades and each set is housed in a little gift box that includes a To: and From: Gift Tag located on the back. You can break the set up and give it as two gifts or keep one for yourself and gift the other to a friend. Or, hey, if you’re greedy, keep both for yourself!
This set includes the following shades:
- Soul (deep berry)
- Perf (plummy rose)
- Candy (peachy nude)
- Latte (brown)
- Mani (dusty rose)
- Spicy (mauve berry)
- Honey (rosy brown)
- Juicy (red)
Each lipstick is 0.034 oz in size versus the full size which contains 0.20 oz in size. This set contains eight shades which are sized and priced at the equivalent of purchasing two full size shades at $40. I wouldn’t say you’re getting a ton of value here but you are getting variety.
I happen to be a lover of this formula because I don’t let wear all day liquid lipsticks. This gives me the same formula as a liquid lipstick but not the budge proof, you can’t remove this without makeup remover wear. I can easily remove the color, reapply it, or even apply a new shades without scrubbing off my lips as the day progresses. This is definitely a liquid lipstick formula I like. I don’t need nor want my lipstick to last 24 hours but I can get a decent five hour wear sometimes six out of these without feeling like the moisture as been sucked from my lips.
I find the formula quite nicely formulated with a creamy, whipped consistency that sets to a matte finish. These are very pigmented and provide opaque coverage on a single layer. The shades are intense and although thick the formula thinks out easy during application and almost looks stain-like in finish! They feel very lightweight but not moisturizing but not drying either. They never quite set so, they tend to transfer if you’re drinking or sipping from a cup or straw but this doesn’t translate to migration or feathering thankfully. As I said above, I’m fine with this because if I need to wipe off color or if I want to reapply I can easily do so without makeup remover. The same can’t be said for most liquid lipsticks! They do have a minty flavor and fragrance that I liked but might be too much for sensitive users.
I did have a problem with one shade which was Soul! It was a difficult one to apply and the color kept getting everywhere and the application was less than smooth. I always truggle with black cherry-like shades like this though.
If you’re a fan of the formula already this set will gift you with eight new colors to add to your collection. If you never tried the formula, now you can do and enjoy a variety of colors from this set. I did find myself wishing it was a smidge cheaper maybe around the $30 or $35 mark but none the less this is an excellent set if you love Tarte’s Tarteist Lip Paint!
