About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. That one dang green shadow is making me doubt my decision to stay away from all holiday kits this year!! The shadows all look gorgeous and I like the fact that it includes contouring shades rather than blushes like tarte always does. However I am still a little wary as I worry that the shadows will pale in comparison to the tartlette in bloom palette (which I’m obsessed with and use almost every day) quality, and the last thing I need is another barely used tarte holiday kit. Ha ha ha.

    • Isabella Muse

I want it but I’m scared too because I didn’t have a good experience with the Sephora Tarte Holiday palette! The formula just wasn’t there, but hopefully this set is better!

      • DONNA

i returned the sephora set today,it was awful the shadows were dery no pigment at all,the other items were also sample sized such a ripoff for poor quality. i really want the ulta one but im going to wait till a sale or coupon comes out which usually happens in oct.

        • Isabella Muse

I had the same issues, Donna which is why I’m scared to order this palette!

    • Stacy a

I bought it! I would say it’s a 7 out of 10. I reviewed it on my channel (The Glow Report) if you guys want to see. The green is pretty!
i’m sorry to say the condo or shades are not going to wear shades! They are blushes, for sure.

  • Jamie

I really want the eyeshadow set, but I want to wait and see swatches first. I feel like sometimes holiday palettes have lower quality shadows, so I’m hoping the shadows are good!

  • Kayla

I’m really interested in this big holiday set! I’ve never bought a big set like this before, but I may give this one a try. Are you planning on ordering it to review? I’d love to hear what you have to say. I have very few palettes for comparison, so I don’t think I would be extremely disappointed by the color selection. (And I’m very pale, so those first few rows will definitely show up on my skin!)

    • Isabella Muse

I don’t think so :-/ I really didn’t love the Sephora set, so don’t want to burn myself twice 🙂

      • Jessica

Return it! See if the Ulta one is the same as the Sephora one, I’d be interested to know if they are playing favorites.

  • chibi639

I had bought the Sephora exclusive too but promptly returned it without even opening after your review. Ordered the Paint Palette the day it came out because the warmer color selection drew me in. I hope it’s better than what the Sephora version had to offer. I’ve seen a few pics from preview events and the pan sizes look more generous than the Pretty Paintbox. But the Ulta palette is $10 less than the Sephora one, so I’m desperately hoping this isn’t a case of you get what you pay for… ::fingers crossed::

    • Isabella Muse

Let me know, I’m curious about it but a little scared to order it after the Sephora one! Good Luck!

  • Robin

It’s in my cart at the moment. I may buy it. I’m like Kayla; very pale so the lighter shades will work for me as well as the darker eyeshadows. My only complaint is the contour shades. The darkest one will look like mud on my skin. I love Laura Mercier’s bronzer in a palette I got earlier from Nordstrom. Maybe I could use it as an eye shadow?!?! Will report back if I breakdown and buy it. I love those dual lippies though!!

    • Isabella Muse

LMK! I’m trying to resist, didn’t like the Sephora one, not sure on this one!

      • Claudia Meza

I just got the ulta set today and swatched it and it is sooo nice the formula is just like their tartalette palette. Very creamy and pigmented im very happy with this holiday palette its waaay better than last years that’s for sure!

  • Amber

I did order this one. The different colors instead of all neutrals pushed me over the edge. It shipped so I should see it later this week. Fingers crossed for me too! I am really pale so I’m hoping everything shows up well.

  • devon

that palette. those lippies! PLEASE review soon as i have officially been putting away $$ to feed my habit!!!!!

  • Abigail

I ordered the “Tarteist Paint Palette Collection’s Set” within minutes of it launching on Ulta.com. I have been waiting for it’s release for months now, and this palette is one that I was most excited about… Unlike years past, I started searching for holiday collection sneak peaks in July, and was surprised that there were pictures of the 2016 holiday collections for several brands. I honestly wanted to wait for the swatches for the Tarte “Tarteist Paint Palette Collection’s set.” but the moment I saw it this summer I knew I needed to have it. What are everyone’s thoughts about purchasing it?

I really wanted to get the Tarte “Amazonian Clay Blush Palette Color Wheel,” but I read reviews that were all in agreement that the size of the blushes were insanely small, and the quality of the product was leaving much to be desired. I know there is a lot of hype around Tarte and their holiday collections, but making the choice to produce in China could greatly affect their sales this year. Has anyone else read anything about the blush palette color wheel?

  • Bya

    Hi,
Which Tarte holiday item were you all talking about (returning)? Was it the Tarte Pretty Paintbox Collector’s Makeup Case? I haven’t opened mine yet but was wondering if you were all unhappy with this kit. Thanks!!

    • chibi639

Yup, the Pretty Paintbox that’s offered at Sephora. The face products are good, but the eyeshadows are very poor. Considering that’s more than half of what you’re paying for, it’s a total bust. 🙁

  • Maria A

Ok so mine just arrive din the mail and I looove it. The colors are very pigmented. The shadows are not stiff but not overly creamy, they are in-between. I kinds like the formula. Sometimes when shadows are too creamy I find it a little harder to blend. I have not swatched all of the shades but the few I did I liked . Not sure how their other holiday palette is but this one is good. I also got the too faced one from Ulta. I kinda went a little palette crazy

    • Isabella Muse

That’s great news!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn’t love the Sephora one, I’m relieved to hear this one is better 😀 Haha it’s the Holidays, palette crazy is the norm right?

      • Maria A

Yes, will you be purchasing it? The only dud that picked up tons of color on my finger but didn’t swatch well on my arm was colada scope I think it was called. But then again it might be different with a brush. I tried the red orange brown shade in the crease and holy pigment! BTW it comes with an eyeshadow brush which in the photo looks like a highlighting brush lol

        • Isabella Muse

I dunno! It is getting a few raves so maybe! 🙂 All the ravings, yours included, are making me want it!

  • Amber

I got mine yesterday too and played with swatches today. I didn’t see a lot of product floating around so I think it was pretty creamy. Not too bad. I liked it and the contour colors were pretty nicely pigmented too. The highlighter didn’t seem as pigmented to me. Maybe that’s just cause I’m really white. I like it. I had gotten an extra of this one for my daughter cause she wanted this one for christmas. I don’t think she’ll be disappointed. My only issue is the green didn’t seem as green as I was hoping. Amber

  • Amber

This one is SO much better than the Pretty Paintbox (Sephora exclusive). I also went to the VIB Rouge event thinking I was going to buy the Pretty Paintbox but after searching it I was just disgusted by the poor quality. I bought this one with my Ulta points (just in case it was bad at least I could say I got it for free) and it is nothing like the Pretty Paintbox.

There are only two shades that I found to be patchy, everything else was buttery and had the usually high pigmentation that you’d expect from Tarte eye shadows. Even the “muddy” looking bronzer looked good on my pale skin. This palette is totally worth it if you were as disappointed as I was in the Pretty Paintbox!

  • Sirena

Does anyone know where this pallette was made? I know the Sephora tarte pallette is made in China and people are noticing a difference. I’m not sure I want to buy it now.

    • stacy allen

It’s made in China. Now, I got the eyeliner set and that one is made in Canada and is wonderful (the brush it comes with is made in China).
